All of 2017 hardly existed for me, I hope you had a better year than the collective of America/the World. Here’s to a fresh start in 2018.

I’ve been watching a lot of anime recently (most of which has been pretty mediocre tbh) that have really cute girls in them. I watched Guilty Crown which has a neat plot and cool music in it, but i hated the characterization and execution. I mention this, because I’ve been obsessed with Inori’s (the girl in red with the guns) song slow jam “Euterpe”. Recently I found a really pretty cover of it by Ophelia Ho and the description really hit home because she’s struggling really bad with the equivalent of music art block. I went nearly all last year without posting anything because I really grew to loath my art style and became frustrated when every single one of my sketches looked awful. Especially when I compare it to some of my older art (which isn’t even impressive at all in my opinion.) But I guess that’s how most everyone feels about their medium? Even in music, most people are super self critical about their art ad are too quick to judge themselves harshly.

I’m listening to this cover and while I understand where someone could say “its not perfect” or “the instrumental is lacking” may come from, it’s still an absolutely breathtaking rendition. That’s when I really realized how hard I try to outdo myself every single time I draw and that’s an impossible standard to meet. So 2018 I want to let myself focus more on improving by practice and repetition (like you’re supposed to), instead of getting caught up on not making every detail perfect. I can’t promise I’m gonna have a stellar art output this year, but I want to try to post more and care less.

As much as I’d like to end on that note, I just want to add who the fuck gave the princess in Seven Deadly Sins one fucking thigh-high sock and her other leg is straight up bare?!?!  I have friends who are really into SDS for whatever reason. Her original outfit looks like shit, so i redesigned it (second drawing).

In the last pic I sketched Ophelia singing because I think she’s absolutely stunning and she inspired me to post my art. <3
