Do you have any refs for sort of triangular shaped characters like Patrick Star?

Without access to my tablet, I can't do this properly, but I'll give it a shot... Oh God, I am so sorry, this is just terrible <:D
So, the first thing you do is get some images of the thing you want to draw and break it down to simplified forms. The purpose of this exercise is to get a feel for how the thing exists in three dimensional space. I did one example here, but it would be good to do this with several different poses where the head and limbs are at different angles, like pointed towards the viewer vs away.
... all I see is, Patric is a scoop of ice cream and a bunch of differently sized ice cream cones sticking out on all sides.
Once you feel like you have an understanding of how it works, you can then scribble out a sort of gesture starting with a line-of action.
From there, you build up that scribble with construction lines based on the forms from the previous exercise.
(Oop... i just noticed that the angle of the legs are off; they should actually be more straight up-and-down >.<)
This basic procedure can work with pretty much any style of cartoon and is not limited to triangular characters.
There is one more thing to study when breaking these things down. Proportion. How long should the arms be? The legs? The head? Sometimes, animators don't fuss too much about keeping it consistent; they don't follow the model sheet too rigidly and the characters can be stretchy in order to emphasise an action. But other times, it can make or break getting the style just right. For this example, I would estimate that Patric's head is roughly as tall as the torso area (the "ball"). The arms seem to have the stretchy thing going on, but the "default" is roughly 3/4ths the height of the torso, and the legs maybe between one fourth to a half (take this with a huge grain of salt; I've never actually watched sponge bob or tried to draw the characters.)
Uh... I'm sorry, this is really bad, but it's the best I can do at the moment. I thought I had some style guides and/or model sheets for spongebob, but they appear to have gone missing. Maybe I made a type-o while tagging them... or I'm confusing it from seeing them elsewhere. In any case, I'll see if i can find some more.
