Riko is da best KnB girl for me. Smart, driven, not too girlish, not too tomboyish, just the right amount of everything. Plus unapologetically fond of cute stuff all while bossing around a bunch of guys twice her size, lol More on my thoughts on her here

I like Alex. Coach-wise she feels like one of the most competent ones in the series, especially given the joy of the game she managed to share and preserve with Kagami and Himuro. Something that isn't granted, especially in knb, where every other basketball club is a torture chamber for the willing, lol More on her here

I'm very disappointed in the reading comprehension of those accusing Alex of inappropriate behavior towards Kagami and Himuro. People, please, for the love of fucking whatever you hold dear, read about comic relief and making fun of stereotypes based on ones nationality.

I would honestly love to see her interactions with Araki (Yosen's coach), cause it has such comedy potential. One proper serious Japanese lady, and the other is a cheerful, carefree American one. Kind of Kagami and Kuroko vibes from these two.
Murasakibara

My lovely giant purple hamster :D I think he's great. Dude just trying to put his physical abilities that he didn't have a say about to play to his advantage. Being this tall at his age in Japan must be all levels of hell inconvenient. Plus, it tends to come with a bunch of health issues, so no wonder my guy is just willing to chill all the time, lol

I wish Fujimaki expanded on Mukkun's conscious effort not to injure others. It is very hard to do in the heat of the game, and requires a very good control of your body and spatial awareness. Oh, and he should've wear ponytail more often, lol
Himuro
How I feel about this character
Our resident emo-boy, lol Himuro is a bit weird to me. I dislike how Fujimaki really tried hard to make him Mr. Perfect as opposed to Kagami's Mr. Chaotic. A little too cool, too pretty, can fight, can play the ball, you name it. And only one bad quality is him being completely shitty with directions\maps, lol
Himuro, all while being this Mr. Perfect somehow ignores all his virtues and focuses only on his shortcomings, which is losing to Kagami in basketball. And given his pride and diligence, it must've hurt, all those efforts were still not enough to tame a wildfire that is Taiga. But what I find to be a very nice little thing, how Himuro, despite being the one to call Kagami brother, is the one that was not able to truly be happy for the growth of his younger brother, even knowing that Himuro was, in many ways, the inspiration to Taiga (an interesting parallel here with Miyaji brothers where we see Yuuya following Kiyoshi’s footsteps faster than he did, and Kiyoshi being chill, at least source material had exactly zero instances of Miyaji showing any sort of jealousy towards his younger brother, unlike the situation with Himuro\Kagami). This tells on how inadequate and insecure he feels deep down, and I always wondered why. Because this insecurity plays very well into him constantly trying to put on a spotless facade, so that others won't start to poke holes into his wounds. And Kagami's superior presence does just that, reminding Himuro of his shortcomings.

Mukkun, I feel like he's a pretty inoffensive guy for him to drag along, keeps his ego mostly intact, and can be bribed with chips, lol. And I kind of have him and Fukui keeping contact after graduation. Still undecided on his interactions with Niji
My unpopular opinion about this character
That as soon as Himuro would resolve his inner problems, and just let himself be, and would rediscover his love for the game, and would reconcile with Kagami, he would only then unlock his full potential and go on GoM's level, in the zone, etc. He is THAT good, that skilled, that diligent and gifted. But his weakness isn't physical, it's mental and it fundamentally hinders his development because he himself can't let it go.

Fujimaki is an absolute ass at portrayal of non-GoM characters. Doing all the hype-up for the hard work over talent only for it to be miserably defeated by talent either way. And while yes, talent+work often renders better results than just repetition\muscle memory\hard work (I get now why compared Himuro to Sen, the same muscle memory skill) oftentimes talent tends to slack at work. And in sports there're just too many variables: injuries, health conditions, mentality, luck, etc. So having this big of a gap between talent and lack of it is unrealistic and sends a shitty message. So Himuro here, alongside pretty much all 3rd years should've had WAY more flowers given to them. And GoM and Seirin should've had more problems with others and lost more often.
I also wonder if Kagami ever called Tatsuya as "Tetsuya" by mistake and what was Himuro's reaction, lol
As for OCs, I'll limit myself here with one OC and one semi-OC from KnB, and given our recent Takao talks, I'll go with Reina (drop me a message if you want me to do the other main two ladies ;)
Reina
How I feel about this character
Reina is the second KnB OC that came about 4-5 years ago as reflection of how unstoppable talent and hard work capitulate under the life's circumstances one has zero control over. I just wanted basically a female equivalent of GoM in a different sport, but her path was brutally cut short right before one of the main events of her life, The Olympics (yeah, we're shooting to the stars here). And bam, suddenly all of your hard work, talent, success and aspirations are gone down the drain, they're no longer applicable to you, so what's left? What's next? How does one adjust to life after life? I wanted it to be both depressing and uplifting, lol
All the people I ship romantically with this character
First of all, Takao. Unlike most other ladies around him, she understands what a laser focus on smth is, and can even offer guidance on certain aspects of the sports regimen for him not to suffer as much physically. She's very... disillusioned, but in a tired\scared not bitter way. Is very calm, kind of socially awkward. A lot of similarities with Midorima here but she's way more cohesive in human interactions, and will not be attached to Takao in a semi-permanent fashion cause it just gives me suffocating vibes.
And secondly, her former junior at kindergarten, with whom they share a peculiar parenting pattern and somewhat similar 'exotic' hair color (different shades of red, Reina's being more into orange territory) - Akashi. She was often a role-model to him, but she moved out of country at a young age to train and they lost contact, only to meet again in high school with a big "holy shit what the hell happened to you" vibes. :D
My non-romantic OTP for this character
My two other OCs: Mika, her childhood friend and Shutoku's manager, and Chiya, her classmate. Akina too, they'll meet in physical therapy and will keep in touch, especially after Akina becomes Kaijo's manager. And Midorima, cause they both kind of facepalm from Takao to different degrees.
I guess the other two questions aren't applicable here but here's Reina picrew to compensate. ;)
Yuuya Miyaji
How I feel about this character
Not an OC but we know very little about him in canon. Yuuya is someone constantly fighting for recognition and his own self. He's only a few years younger than Kiyoshi but is always the "junior", in the shadow of a very loud, memorable brother that is hard to keep up with cause Kiyoshi is over-achiever (the only guy in Shutoku being allowed to train during exams in canon). Yuuya picked up basketball cause Kiyoshi was forced to look over his younger bro and started to use him as a training partner eventually. So most of his basketball stuff used to be Kiyoshi's, his basketball pals knew him as Kiyoshi's younger bro, in Shutoku he is Miyaji jr. till Kiyoshi's graduation, you get. HOWEVER, this gave Yuuya an edge of starting earlier than Kiyoshi and with tougher opponents from the get go (most were his brother's age), which lead to Yuuya going into sports-oriented middle school that Kiyoshi did not, and that's why Yuuya was a starter in his first year and captain by his second (this differs from canon because I couldn't just keep a 7 month birth difference between Kiyoshi and Yuuya that is somehow canon, and Yuuya is magically a Shutoku's captain in 3rd year despite us not seeing him even once in knb... What is planning, amiright, Fujimaki-sensei? :D) Yuuya also really tries to differ from Kiyoshi in other areas, different style in hair and clothing (more of a sporty looks than Kiyoshi's classic one), music preferences (hates j-idols), food, hobbies (even though both of them like video games), etc but at some point he has stop and think if those are his actual preferences or something he choose to differentiate from his older brother? Yuuya and Kiyoshi bicker on a semi-permanent basis with superficial physical fights but it's just their norm. They genuinely care and admire one another but will absolutely not acknowledge that in any public way, lol

Tae Ootsubo and Chiya. This will be the most non-dramatic, awkward yet truly caring triangle with hints of longing, regret and sadness. With a happy ending for everyone involved ;)

Takao and Kimura's little brother. With Kimura's bro they met in that sports middle school and have been pals since then but Yuuya is 1 year older. With Takao they're classmates, on top of being teammates, plus their gfs at that time were friends, and they have a shared love for card games, so they do hang out together a decent amount.

I don't think he has any popular opinions to begin with, lol I guess that I made him the same age as Takao and Midorima, otherwise he'd be only 7 months younger than Kiyoshi, which is problematic, given that pregnancy lasts for 9 :D

Him actually being shown as a part of the team like Nakamura in Kaijo? As a frequent sub and not as an afterthought in epilogue. And wish we had something on him and Tae in canon other than him having her photo ;)

How I feel about this character
He's very sympathetic. It's interesting how he's comic relief coded, because his presence makes things lighter, but actually he's not the comic relief, everyone else is, and he's the sane one laughing at everyone, especially Shin-chan, ofc. Admittedly, in my fics he is usually there for a laugh, like making group chats funnier, because those interactions definitely need a cheerful extravert here and there, but when I get the occasional chance to write from his POV, I like to explore his insecurities and soft and deeply caring side, and give him some love.

I don't have any but to say something I'll say that I think he's going to keep becoming better friends with Kise once they get past the more superficial "hey we share an energy let's do shenanigans and flood the group chat with memes" phase, and I also envision him becoming unexpectedly good friends with Akashi in university because they'll end up in a band together.

That he's gay? Most people seem to think of him as the epitome of bisexuality. I don't have any reasoning for him being gay, it just happened, as it does in life, haha. Aka it emerged from the themes of my story.

Mostly I'm interested in your version of him. Initially I just felt some pity and hope that he'll get his shit together. I don't think he will ever be in my world much, he just didn't get my attention like that before I talked to you, and by then it was "too late". That's the way it is for me, because if I'm interested to write about a character, I'm not that interested to read about them, and vice versa, at least anything longform, because one timeline in my head is my natural setting. (I can make exceptions for a good enough reason, but yeah, I have to hold that space/contradiction consciously.) So, I'm too interested to read about Haizaki from your perspective, I have no need for my own take on him, I want to keep immersing myself in yours. (I have no bias for a take that's my own, I have a bias for a take that I got attached to first. Sometimes it's mine, sometimes it's someone else's. Always been this way. 😅)

I got nothing, really, but I particularly like your future hc for him being a hairdresser. And he would look like he's got his shit together. I'm undecided if he would act as if he didn't even recognise them.

As of now, he feels more like a "figure" to me than someone I know deeply, but I'm sure that will change at some point once I start the Akashi centric part of my series. I've still got one thing to write before that...

I have been converted into thinking Akashi might have had a crush on him, but I don't think it's ever going to be mutual in my world. (I always had an idea that Akashi had a crush on someone older/authority figure in middle school, I might have thought it was a young teacher at some point, but I hadn't explored that further yet and since the space was essentially blank it was pretty easily filled when so many people on Tumblr started talking about Nijimura in this context.)

How I feel about this character
He is so what my story needed on so many levels. He gave me a way to explore some cultural things about Finland and Japan together. Also moral support for Kagami for being a half foreigner with weird hair and just a friend he needed because Himuro continues to refuse to talk in my head. He also gave me a replacement for puns after Izuki graduated, but his style is way more sustainable for me. And he provided some excellent narrative foil and parallels for Kuroko as well as Kagami in ways that were kind of too obvious for me to see at first but I love how it turned out. And there were a million reasons for why Seirin should have a trans player. (Yes, very cis passing and altogether conventional and privileged but I think anyone who really reads the story can see there's a point to that.) And as a whole he did bring some healthy attachment energy to the story which was sorely lacking. I also just really like his easygoing personality. He's honestly my comfort character even though nothing about him was actually written for comfort.

Yagi. I definitely didn't see that coming but then Aki was chasing Yagi with antlers and bugs and it reminded me of Kuroko chasing Kagami with Nigou, and. Well. Suddenly I found all sorts of interesting thematic musings that could come from their relationship, that I couldn't explore with any other characters to that extent. So yeah, Yagi who's barely a character x trans masc OC. Definitely my nichest ship. This is what I'll write next and I feel like I've been waiting forever.

Any character you wish to talk about (not necessarily from knb): Well, okay then. I'm about to start writing the fourth and final book in my first published fantasy series and I have a particular character I need to focus on for this book, so I'm just gonna explore my character Sen. Sorry your context is limited.
How I feel about this character
I like writing them but I would probably find them a bit irritating in real life. (Kind of in a similar way I would Himuro?) They are so... Image conscious in a way. I don't know how to deal with people like that very well, but I want to write them fairly and not be biased against them just because I have an inclination to scoff at people being too... Precious. I do love Sen, I wouldn't write a character I didn't feel drawn to in any way. And Sen presents many interesting things to explore that are going to bring a new side about this world to the light.
One major thing is that musical ability has been the main "magic" in the story since the beginning, and Sen, though considered a prodigy, actually lacks traditional musicality, they simply have such an insane fine muscle memory that they've been able to achieve a high technical ability playing a flute despite not having the ear that most of the talented people who guard their island against earthquakes by playing music, do. However, the "magic" is so... low-key that for the entire three books it has been ambiguous who has it and whether it even really exists. So, this is something I'm interested to explore further in the last book, where Sen's connection to magic might show itself, if it's there.

Sen certainly had a crush on the main character, Lilea, in the first book, but Lilea was too preoccupied with other things to even notice.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
I feel like Sen has had a crush on most people they are friends with at some point, though only Lilea was explored with any depth, so, I don't think they care much about the divide between platonic or romantic.
Now I wonder if I’ll manage to get you see my Takao with Reina 😅 It’s gonna be messy but I hope you’ll at least consider this pairing. ;) I also would’ve like to have more Takao interactions with Kise and Momoi, I feel like they’d ‘click’ well.
Very much looking forward to your Niji. My own vision so far, is that Akashi does indeed has a crush on Niji but not in a romantic way but in a ‘wanna be called a good boy’ kinda way. Like, you know, when kids go out of their way to get the attention and approval of a teacher they like. This is also one of the fundamental pillars of his dislike towards Haizaki, cause he gets A LOT of Nijimura’s attention. I think even in that CD drama you could tell that Akashi had certain jealousy towards Haizaki in terms of how much time and effort Niji put onto him. So yeah, will be very much interested in your takes on the matter.

Surprisingly, the latest Forza kicked me out of my misery and made me inspired enough to get back to my very old WIP of Kuroko No Basuke, so here's a part from there.
The angle of the setting sun illuminated the lake's surface, a sharp contrast to the black outlines of the trees before them. Daylight dripped slowly, like sticky honey, with the last rays of sunlight, clinging to the surfaces with moist warmth and lint. They were alone at the roadside station, and Ootsubo's secret filled Kiyoshi's mind, as if there was no more room for covert intel and it needed to be spilled, at least partially. It would be fair, right? Trade some classified information on each other?
"You ever wondered why none of my girlfriends ever really lasted?"
"No, I was wondering what some of them saw in you in the first place," Taisuke then paused, chewing on his onigiri and stifling a laugh, "apart from the looks that is."
"You really have a way with backhanded compliments."
"There was no compliment there, Miyaji."
"Fuck off." Kiyoshi sunk his teeth in his tamagoyaki.
The evening breeze filled the air with the faint scent of dry pine needles, dust and still hot asphalt.
"You're keeping all of them at a distance, if I can sense it, I'm sure they can too." Ootsubo finished his food, and flicked the last bits of rice from his hands. "I kinda thought it was just you being emotionally stunted but I take it there's a reason for it?"
Kiyoshi crooked an eyebrow at him, "Wow, look at you, might wanna start part-time shrink sessions, you'll hoard cash for a car in no time."
"That's just part of being captain, you observe people and their motivations. Including off court time. And why do I need a car if I have you as a driver."
"I'm not third wheeling you here on a regular, got it? Also, your captain's description sounds awful lot like being a snitch."
"Did I ever snitch on you?"
Miyaji went silent, as if recollecting memories, "Not that I remember."
"That's more like it. So, what's the reason then?"
I hope that one day I'll finally place all the pieces together and get it out of my system, lol

Don't really write much these days, have to wrestle my brain that silly little past-times are necessary for some brain recharge but it keeps accusing me of idleness :D So had to dig in a memory to remember what was written last, but I think this was it:
Moraena then lifted her hand and slowly moved it down her face, and nodded for Gadriel to mirror her actions, when he did, he felt the rugged edges of his scars. Next, she dropped the hand to the map spread out on the table, traced the river outlines, and added, “We all carry our home with us in different ways, some nested deep while others forded in plain sight, much like your face reflecting the aquatic veins of your home world”.
