no you do not need to hold fictional characters "accountable". they are not real.

its cool to do alternative readings of characters based on their wasted potential but sometimes fandom will be like "canon is wrong for thinking [character] is [trait]" and [trait] will be the core tenet of the character which defines not only their personal arc but also their role in the larger story

Do you block people in the same fandom as you just because you don't like their takes?

nobody is saying you CAN’T have your characters settle down and get married and have children at the end of the story. it’s a happy ending for many people. but if you’re going for a satisfying ending then it should be a satisfying ending for those characters in particular. it has to feel right. if all your character ever really wanted throughout their story was a family and a fucking break, then by all means go for it. but if they had other ambitions that were given up or forgotten or glossed over then it’s not going to feel like the end. story’s not over. revise it or keep going. marriage and children and a 401k doesn’t have to be the end!! it can be in the middle!! life doesn’t end with parenthood. it’s just another stepping stone. treat it accordingly

i feel like nobody has NOTPs anymore. like if you hate a ship now it has to be for some deep moral reason and you have to justify it to everyone what happened to just not liking stuff that isnt inherently bad but just because you personally think it sucks
