someone on here posted about how Benoit seemed more radicalized after the events of Glass Onion (if i can find the post again I'll link it) and i haven't stopped thinking about it
here's what we know about benoit blanc
he's a famous detective who has worked on a variety of high-profile cases
his father was a cop
his mother was religious and they stopped speaking to each other
he listens to musicals
he is very observant
he is not religious
he lives with a man (confirmed off-screen to be his partner, ambiguous onscreen)
he is bad at mystery games
we know glass onion took place in May 2020. as part of this case, he watched a powerful white man try (and eventually fail) to steal the work of one Black woman and try to silence/intimidate another. and right after that he likely observed the way cops treated people (especially people of color) during the protests of summer 2020
In knives out, Benoit Blanc works closely with the cops, but also willfully invites a suspect he knows is involved in the death of Harlan. While he does not do anything to obscure her potential guiltiness, he does let her protect herself.
in glass onion, Blanc agrees to help Helen with the case outside of law enforcement. the cops don't even show up until AFTER the glass onion building bursts into flames.
In wake up dead man, Jud is already assumed guilty despite circumstantial evidence, but Blanc's reading of him shows him to be kind-hearted and incapable of murder. While he does work with the cops, he intentionally gets in the way of the law and helps protect Jud because he knows him to be a scapegoat.
i think it makes a lot of sense over the entire timeline's narrative that Blanc would become more aware of the systemic issues in the justice system after the first two cases we've seen as movies, and that he would be more willing to go outside the law to make sure justice is served

My prediction for the next Benoit Blanc film is that after Marta (accused of a murder, scared but works with Blanc), Helen (pretends to be a murdered person to work with Blanc), and Jud (accused of a murder, keeps trying to confess to it and has to be stopped by Blanc), the next in line is going to be someone who has not committed a murder, but really wants to do so and Blanc has to continuously talk them out of it while also trying to find a different murderer.
Watson #4, absolutely losing it: Everyone already decided Iâm guilty, and all of my problems could be solved by just becoming the person everyone tells me I am! Donât you see? I can fix this! I just have to kill him!
A very frazzled and exhausted Blanc: Ah donât knohw how tuh tell you this buht⌠no. Do nawt do that.

my heart goes out to Black activists right now having to deal with white people co opting âsay her nameâ while also ignoring the murder of Keith Porter, the name they refuse to say. and my heart goes out to those who are being terrorized, kidnapped, detained, abused, murdered, left to die in ways we will never know with names we will never hear. This is a traumatic fucking time and you need to be there for your friends of color, your neighbors, your community. Do not allow them to be just background noise to the violence on white citizens.

I knew it was love
When I rode home crying
Thinking of you fucking other girls
You had always loved Steve Harrington. And Steve? Well, he was oblivious. But a near death experience in the Upside Down causes you to confess your feelings for him.
pairing: steve harrington x reader
words: 2.7k
contains: HEAVY angst, use of y/n, near death experience, talk of death, explicit language, suggestive language.
author's note: very VERY loosely based on dust bones by ethel cain. this fic is a little shorter as my others and I didnât do a preview for it but the idea came to me after I saw vol 2 a few weeks and I finally got the urge to write it out of nowhere the other night đ¤ also happy harry styles is back day to those that celebrate
to be added to my taglist
You had heard about Steve and Emma Stevens through Robin.
She hadnât meant to tell you, really. Robin justâshe couldnât keep her mouth shut. You had only asked her if she thought Steve would give you a lift home from the SQWK radio stationâwhere you and Robin were currently prepping for tomorrowâs show.
âProbably not,â Robin says, her brows furrowed in concentration as she fiddles with a cassette. âProbably going to be knuckles deep in that Emma girl. You know what Steveâs like. Theyâre going on a second date soââ
She realises thenâlooking up at you with her eyes wide and apologetic.
âFuck (y/n), Iâm sorryââ
You blink. Try not to show how much that revelation had cut you open.
It wasnât exactly a secret that you were in love with Steve Harrington. Robin knew, Dustin knew, Lucas knew, Joyce knew, Nancy knew, Jonathan knewâhell, Max probably knew and she was in a damn coma. The only person who didnât know? Steve. The man was oblivious. Completely and utterly oblivious.
And so the reminder that Steve was fucking other girls on a weekly basis? Well, it hurt. Hurt a lot.
âItâs fine,â you lie as you pick up a few random tapes and pretend to consider them. You werenât fine. You were trying not to cry.
Robin can tell sheâs upset you and genuinely feels awful. The cassette tape in her hands clatters onto the table as she rushes to hug you. The telltales signs you were holding back tears were thereâyour eyes shining, bottom lip quivering and the way you went quiet.
You should be used to Steveâs casual dating by now. Should be used to the fact that he was fucking women who arenât you. But honestly? You werenât used to it at all.
And so, you rode home on your bike that night, crying as you tried not to imagine Steve and Emmaâprobably hooking up in the back of his beloved Beamer.
But now? Only three days laterâEmma Stevens and Steve were the least of your worries.
The Upside Down always came knocking. Because of course it fucking did.
And this situation you found yourself in with none other than Steve himselfâwell, you were sure you werenât going to make it out of this alive.
The room you were inâseemingly a boardroom of such in the upper floors of Hawkins Laboratoryâwas slowly but surely filling with a sludgy liquid that tried to keep you from moving.
You had no idea what was happeningâyou figured it had something to do with that energy shield (or whatever Dustin had theorised it was) you had just shot. But the guilt youâre feeling as you realise that youâve condemned not only yourself but Steve to certain deathâwell, itâs all consuming.
âOn the table,â Steve instructs, tugging on your hand so you followâhaving to pull your legs up in order to move through the sludge.
Steve makes sure you go firstâhoisting you up onto the table by your waist. You could have easily done it yourself but you took any and every opportunityâselfishlyâfor that man to touch you.
The table offered some reprieveâboth of you free of that strange liquid that surrounded the table like an ominous ocean.
Steve looks at youâa look on his face you had seen only a few times before, one that plainly told you he was scared. âWh-what do we do?â He asks you.
You look around the room, franticâat the greyish liquid drawing ever closerâat the hole in the wall that had only made the situation worse as more and more sludge poured inâand finally, you look up at the gaping hole in the ceiling that was too high for either of you to reach and your only way of escape.
Steve is still looking at youâthe way heâs always looked at you. Expectantly. Waiting to hear your plan. In the few years you had been falling into the Upside Down together, you always had a plan. Always one step ahead. But nowâ
âHelp!â You yell out. âHelp!â
And itâs that moment that Steve realises he was going to die. That if you didnât see a way out of this? He knew there wasnât one.
âHelp!â He joins you, yelling in the hopes that Dustin, Nancyâhell, even Jonathanâwould hear you. Though he knew, deep down, the trio were too many floors down to hear you both.
The two of you yell out, desperately. Trying your dammdest to liveâto make it out of this alive. But as your voice cracks and Steve keeps yelling, you realise that no one was coming. That Dustin, Nancy and Jonathan couldnât hear you. That you and Steve were going to die. Slowly, probably suffocating from the sludge. You thought about how painful it would be for that to fill your lungs.
âSteveâju-justâstop,â you tell him, reaching out to tug his sleeve to get his attention. âThey canât hear us.â
Steveâs in denial. He shakes his headâfucking terrifiedâas he keeps on yelling anyway.
âSteve!â You yell at him, your voice breaking as the tears finally start to fall. âStop. Theyâre notâtheyâre not coming.â
Steve looks at youâat your tears. At the look on your face and he knows youâre right. Knows there isnât a way out of this. Knows that you both arenât going to be saved. That your will to leave alone couldnât save you.
âWeâwe gotta try (y/n),â he says finally and you feel your heart do that funny thing it always did around Steve because fuck, he had so much fight in him. Such a will to live and you feel awful that this was your fault. That you were the one to shot the giant ball of matter.
You just look at him and shake your head, tears already spilling down your cheeks. âIâm so sorry, SteveâI didnât know that would happenââ
âHey, hey, hey,â Steve says gently, leaning closer to you and placing a hand on your knee. âDonât cry. Please. You didnât know. Itâs not your fault.â
âBut it isââ
âItâs not,â he cuts across you. You know heâs just saying it to make you feel better. But the matter of the fact is, if you hadnât shot that thing, you both would still be up on the roof. Not stuck in this room, waiting to die. But you didnât want the last few minutes of your life to be spent arguing with Steveâs over whose fault it was. So, you just nod and wipe away your tears.
Itâs quiet then. Just you, Steve and both of you quietly accepting your fate.
âWish I couldâyou know, listen to like one more song beforeââ Steve cuts himself off as he swallows. Not looking at you. His hand still on your knee.
âWhat song?â You ask in a quiet voice.
Steve looks at you andâyou see the tears in his eyes for the first time. After everything you two had been through together with every Upside Down âadventureâ (because was several near death experiences really an adventure?)âyou hadnât ever seen him cry. Until now. But you donât comment on it. You just look at him, waiting for his response.
âTake On Me,â he says, the corners of his mouth twitching.
You canât help it, you laughâdespite the situation you both were in. It was justâŚso quintessentially Steve that you couldnât help it.
âHavenât you listened to that song enough?â You ask him, because Steve couldnât seem to go a day without listening to that song. Robin had even made it a rule at the station that he was only allowed to play it three times a week, after you had received multiple complaints from listeners who counted a whopping eighteen plays of the track in a single week.
âNah,â Steve says with a shake of his head, sniffling a little, âI bet youâd pick Edge of Seventeen.â
You bite back a smileâlooking over at Steve with tears still falling.
âItâs a good song,â you say simply. Steve squeezes your knee.
You look away from him and your eyes dart around at the room again. You feel Steve squeeze your knee again. Grounding.
âHey, look at me,â Steve says gently and you feel his fingers gently graze your cheek as he turns your head to look at him. Not at the reminder of your unfortunate fate. âFocus on meââ
You could feel your heart hammering in your chest. The gentle reminder that you were alive. Alive. Alive.
You hadnât ever given much thought to it. Your heart that beat to keep you alive. But feeling it racing against your chest like that? Like it was desperate for you to liveâyou were grateful for it. Hadnât ever been so grateful to be alive as you were now.
âI don't want to die, Steve,â you burst out in a panic, tears spilling down your cheeks. âI don'tââ
âNeither do I,â Steve admits in a quiet voice. His hand on your knee tightening as his honeyed brown eyes flicker to meet yours, his other hand coming down to rest on your shoulder. âBut Iâm here, yeah? You wonât be alone.â
Your bottom lip quivers and you nod as a small sob escapes you because you were going to die. You were going die with the man you loved. And he still didnât knowâ
âI wanna go first,â your murmur quietly. âI don't want to live in a world where Steve Harrington doesn't exist.â
âDon't,â Steve breathes out, jaw tense. Eyes shining and shaking his head. âDon't say thatââ
ââand Iâm s-sorry that itâs now that Iâm telling y-you but I canât die without you knowing,â you stutter out through shuddering breaths.
Steve looks back at you, lips parted and hanging on your every word. Unsure if he wanted you to keep talking or stop.
âI love you, Steve,â you tell him finallyâyour face wet with tears. âI always h-have.â
The silence youâre greeted with is the loudest you had ever heard. Your heart still hammering against your chest. Desperate to keep you to alive as death cameâthe liquid creeping ever closer with every second.
âFuckââ Steve finally says, the fingers on your shoulder twitching as he shifts closer to you. âI hadâI had no idea. And Iâve beenâfuckâIâve been screwing around for monthsââ
ââitâs okay,â you interrupt him with a shake of your head. âReally, Steve. Itâs fineââ
âNo. Itâs not fine,â Steve says firmly, jaw set and his eyes roaming your face like he was seeing it for the first time. âBecause IâshitâI love you too and IâI should'veâfuckâI should've asked you out. Should've just done it instead of fucking wasting time. Should have taken you out for milkshakes or some shitââ
âMilkshakes?â You repeat, smiling a little. It was bittersweet. Because he wasnât running. Didnât find the idea of you being in love with him repulsive. And he said he loved you too.
Steve lifts his head up and catches your smile and fuck, if he does dieâhe wants your smile to be the last thing he sees.
âYeah. Milkshakes,â Steve breathes out, âand bowling.â
âI would have kicked your ass at bowling,â you say, smiling at him as tears continue to fall. âMaybe would have let you get to second base too.â
Steve laughsâdespite fucking everything, he's laughing.
âShit, (y/n),â Steve breathes out, his forehead resting against yours, breath fanning your face. âYou can't say that shit to me right now.â
âAnd I would have destroyed you at bowling. Would have worn a new shirt, bought you the biggest damn milkshake,â Steve's voice falters slightly, going quiet as his eyes flicker up to yours. âWould have kissed you stupid after.â
You smile at each other and for a momentâitâs just you and Steve. No grey sludge that was your death sentence around you.
âFuckâwe screwed up here,â Steve says and you laugh as you cry and suddenly heâs laughing too. You shouldnât be. Youâre about to die. Itâs not funny, not in the slightest. But this moment? It didnât feel scary. Or like death was around the corner. You just felt safe.
âThink we have time for me to kiss you stupid?â Steve murmurs quietly, fingers brushing along your jaw before his gaze falls onto your lips.
âYeah,â you whisper back, eyes meeting his. Feeling his breath hot against your skin. âThereâs time.â
He doesnât wait a second.
You let out a noise of surprise as Steve's lips descend onto yours. There's no gentleness. No hesitation. Just years of tension and unspoken words between the two of you as your hands find the front of his jacket and tug him closer. Needing him so desperately as you kiss him back.
He groansâfucking groansâagainst your lips, his tongue tracing the seam of your mouth and groaning again when you part your lips for him. His hands scramble to find your waist and he licks into your mouth and in his desperation, begins to press you back against the table.
Your hand shoots out to stop yourself from tumbling back too quickly from Steve's eagerness. But instead of the gooey liquid you're expecting to feelâyou feel something solid.
There's a wet noise as you pull away from him. His lips chase after yours.
âS-Steve,â you gasp. âLo-lookââ
Steveâs confusedâface flushed, eyes wide and lips still wet from your kiss. âWhat? Was it too much orââ
Itâs then he sees the solidified grey sludge. It had set just beneath the table.
âDoes this meanââ
You donât waitâyou lean over the table and place both your hands on the solid surface. It doesnât crack. Doesnât budge in the slightest. You start to stand, you needed to be sureâ
â(y/n), be careful! It mightââ
But you ignore him. You stand up on the solidified sludge andâitâs a solid as concrete.
Steve looks at you for a moment that felt like a lifetime. And thenâ
He scrambles to his feetâhis arms wrapping around your waist as he lifts you half off the ground.
âWeâre okay,â he breathes out as you sob in relief, his free hand cupping the back of your head like he needed to touch you. Needed the reminder that he was alive. That you were alive.
Alive. Alive. Alive.
âWeâre okay,â he repeats, setting you down and cupping your face between his hands as he wipes away your tears. âWeâre okayâfuckâweâre okay.â
You donât even have time to breathe before heâs kissing you again.
Soft. Gentle. Like he had all the time in the world. And now, he supposed you did. Had time for that date. Had time for milkshakes, bowling and maybe even second base.
âMâgonnaââ Steve mumbles against your lips as your hands fist the front of his jacket. ââkick your ass at bowling.â
âShut up,â you murmur back before pulling away and smiling up at him like this was the beginning of something, âyouâre gonna be a gentlemen and let me win.â
Steve scoffs, his hands moving back down to your waist and squeezing gently.
âOh, absolutely not if youâre offering to go to second baseââ
You whacked him on the arm, feeling elated as he laughed. He ducked his head down to kiss you again andâ
The sound of banging from the wall behind you is what pulls you away from each other. Steve doesnât think as he pulls you behind him. Protective. It was so Steve it made your heart do funny things in your chest.
The banging continues. The drywall cracks. Dust fills the air andâ
âWhat the fuck happened in here?â
You had never been so glad to hear Jonathan Byersâ voice.
Through the hole in the wallâseemingly made by the fire extinguisher in Jonathanâs handâyou see Nancy, Jonathan and Dustin. Looking at you and Steve and how close you were standing. His hands on your waist.
âAre we interrupting something?â Nancy asks with a small smile. âOr do you guys want to get out of here?â
You and Steve look at each other, adrenaline pumping through the both of youâhaving been so close, so certain you were going to die that it's hard to even stand still.
"Yeah," Steve says finally, keeping his arm around you and pulling you close. âLetâs get out of here. Weâve got a date to go on.â

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence lies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.
