The Graphic Symbols on the Orphans
The graphs for the Girl and the Boy are the most prominent-- circle and square, respectively.
The Girl's graph, circle, is interrelated with certain contents in the game, such as the Mother, the well, and the rabbit ring. The imagery of female, motherhood, and reproduction for circle is obvious and has been analyzed by others. Besides, as a graphic feature, circle has no beginning or end. Therefore, circle has the feature of rotation, which is demonstrated in the running rabbit ring. No beginning or end, everlastingly rotating and moving, which is life, or cycle of life.
The graph of the Boy is square, with sides and corners, which can represent stability and order, also danger and aggression. And square has 4 corners and sides, probably suggesting that the Boy is the main representative among all these four assaulters.
Five rabbits can form a circle of life. However, ironically, just one less rabbit would only result in a shape with sharp edges.
Hood has two graphs. The first is the rhombus on her hood, and this rhombus is actually a square rotated by 45Β°. Square. Rotation. Her graph is actually the combination of the Boy and the Girlβs. To some point, it does align with her background and her role in the story. On one hand, as a female, she joined the murder in a masculine manner; on the other hand, can she represent an attitude that lies between the Boy and the Girl, a stance situated between the two extremes?
Her second graph is a triangle, which is actually half of a rhombus, can represents danger, uncertainty and warning. That's all I can think of for now. I don't know if the DLC will provide more information of it.
The graphs of Bucket and Bandage are both closer to circle. Bucket has a plump figure, and his bucket is a cylinder. Bandage's head is close to an ellipse in shape, with no obvious sharp edges. Their card graphs are respectively a bold circle and a twisted circle. It's interesting that as the assaulters, their graphs are actually closer to the Girlβs, the victim.
The Steam card symbols for the five orphans are all composed of thorny lines and non-thorny shapes. The lines for the Girl, Hood and Bandage are all horizontal. The Boy and the Bucket's lines are vertical lines after rotating the horizontal line clockwise by 90Β° or counterclockwise by 90Β°, in the opposite directions. This made me think of their ways of dying are "hanging up" and "falling down". Do the card symbols contain implications about how they died?
In addition, as the lines in the five symbols are exactly the same, in fact, these five symbols can be put together. The Girl's figure is located in the center of the line, and the other four are kept at different distances from the center.
