âOh god, my heart goes out to you. I give it about 20 minutes before you get something vulgar or some guy asking if you want a dick pic.â
âIt did only last about a day before I was tired of it. It seemed like they didnât waste any time before asking if they could text me outside of the app. I donât want a lot of strangers getting my number. Iâm just not cut out for the whole dating scene.â
âI just downloaded one of those dating apps... I am already regretting this.â
atticusfitzgerald¡:
âOh, I bet theyâre gonna be excited about that,â Atticus replied with a smile. âTheyâll have a lot of fun.â There was still an awkwardness between them, but he was glad that they were both trying to be friendly and hopefully move forward. ââDonât worry. Your secretâs safe with me,â he promised her, a chuckle escaping him. âOne water, cominâ up. âMm, we have good burgers, if I do say so myself. My cook can also put together one hell of a chicken salad, if youâd rather go with something light and fresh.âÂ
âGood because they would run me all the way to the Mason-Dixon line if they found that out, and I like it here.â Lucy looked over the menu again before handing it over to him. Her first instinct was to be cute and flirty, damn him! Why was he so easy to talk to and bring that part to the forefront? She felt her cheeks blush at what she was holding back from saying and blurted out: âChicken salad sounds good.â She cleared her throat. âI mean, Iâll take the chicken salad. I shouldnât eat anything too heavy since itâs later than I had expected.â
atticusfitzgerald¡:
âIâm⌠Iâm good,â he replied, giving her a small smile. He stood there for a moment without saying anything before stepping a little closer. âHow about you? Howâs work going?â He was so happy to see herâ heâd missed her since the last time he saw her, and he couldnât help feeling relieved to see her. Maybe they werenât together anymore, but he honest to God, hoped they could be friends, eventually. She was one of the best people heâd ever known, and he felt her absence from his life. ââWhat can I get you? Coffee, soda, tea?â
âIâm glad to hear it. --Work is good. Iâve been out gathering decorations for the kids to help me with tomorrow, since itâs getting cooler out and the spooky season is upon us. Itâs been keeping me busy.â She would keep the few nights after they broke up where she looked like Jess from New Girl and cried into her ice cream to herself. She had forgotten that she was there for something to eat until he brought it up. âWater, please. Will you take my southern card away if I tell you that I cannot stand iced tea?â She crinkled her nose in distaste. âAnd what would you recommend to eat? Because I am starving.â

Atticusâs day had been busyâ it was Sunday, after all, so a lot of people didnât feel like cooking, so they came into his diner for breakfast and lunch. By diner, though, things had quieted down, and he was in his office when he heard the chime of the bell letting him know someone had come in. His waitress was on her break, so he grabbed a little notepad and went out to help the new customers. He approached the table, not really paying attentionâ and then stopped in his tracks when he saw it was none other than Lucy, sitting at one of the tables. ââHi,â he murmured softly, trying to smile back. Honestly, he was still wracked with guilt over everything that had happened between them, and was surprised sheâd come into his business. âItâs⌠great to see you, Luce.â
Lucy willed herself not to lose control and let her heart get all excited by his mere presence. Some habits were harder to break than others. âGreat to see you, too.â It was a lie, but it was also very hard still. Why had she gone off by herself today? She was never going to go alone anywhere ever again. âHow-- uh, have you been?â She bit her bottom lip. The hardest part was fighting the urges that came naturally. She had to learn how to be around him all over again.Â
lucy: i have decided that you can never leave me alone.
lucy: ever.
lucy: i only end up in crazy situations if you leave me by myself!
lucy: also, do you want me to bring you anything from the diner?
Lucy had been out gathering decorations and felt her stomach growl. She looked at the time, no wonder she was hungry! She hadnât eaten in more than ten hours. She decided she needed to grab something to eat and without thinking, walked up to Atticusâ diner. Before she opened the door, she caught herself and stepped back. Was she really ready to do this? To face him already? She had managed to keep her distance from him since they broke up, and she wanted to be friends with him still, but was she ready yet? She paced a couple of times before finally deciding to go in and made her way to a table in the corner. She covered her face with the menu, beginning to second guess her decision, but it was too late as she heard a familiar voice. She took a deep breath and looked up smiling at him. âHi, Atticus.â

ââOh, I was gonna mix it withâŚ. Nevermind. Itâs definitely a straight tequila kinda night,â Diana murmured, taking her own cup and downing the shot before pouring herself another, pushing away the bottle of orange juice sheâd taken out of Lucyâs fridge. âSo nasty, and yet.â She took a long sip of her second shot, making a face in distaste as she swallowed hard. âI almost feel twenty again.â She set the cup down and reached for the ice cream, and the spoons sheâd brought in from the kitchen. âDo you want fudge brownie, or strawberry cheesecake?â
Lucy didnât care about anything but alcohol at the moment. Just making her head stop for just a few minutes was worth the nasty hangover she would feel in the morning. Lucy glared over the brim of her cup and sighed. âI never really drank before. I would always talk myself out of the idea of it because it would mess me up the next day. Or it was simply wasnât worth it. Always logical,â she groaned with a roll of her eyes. âSo stupid.â Her eyes darted to the ice cream. âFudge brownie, definitely. I am ready to get wasted by alcohol and chocolate.â She took the ice cream and spoon, stuffing a heaping spoonful in her mouth. âHow are you, other than dealing with me?â

Her grandparents had asked to have Carrie for the afternoon, leaving Maggie completely free, for the first time in a really long while. She didnât really know what to do with herself, she was so used to having her daughter with her at all times, unless she was with her dad, so it was strange. She walked around town for a little while, bought an iced coffee, and bought a couple of booksâ but after about an hour, sheâd exhausted the entire townâs shops and boutiques, and ended up just stopping and taking a seat under a shady tree. She decided sheâd start a book, before she made her way back home and got dinner ready and her grandparents dropped Caroline back off. Carefully pulling off her heels, she placed them near her purse and leaned back against the tree trunk and began to read. It was supposed to be a quick stop, just to give her a chance to rest after walking around in her heels all day, but she got sucked up into the book, and she couldnât put it downâ until she heard someone calling her name. In a daze, she blinked as she glanced up. ââHm? Oh, sorry, I didnât hear a single word you said,â she murmured, resting the book on her lap. âCome again?â
âItâs Maggie, right?â Lucy was usually really good with names, but her head was somewhere else, lately. âI didnât mean to bother you, I just was wondering if I could join you. You look so very serene and I feel like I could use that kind of serenity in my life right now.âÂ

âNot well,â he started, but that wasnât important nowâ what was important was that sheâd agreed to help him outâ enthusiastically so. He was caught off guard as she jumped up and hugged him, and almost dodged her, but begrudgingly went along with it, forcing a huge smile. âLucy, itâs been much too long!â he replied, patting her on the back and lifting her up a bit as he hugged her. ââOf course, of course, mind if I sit with you so theyâll only see the back of my head and not recognize me?â
Lucy rolled her eyes at his remark. She didnât say they were best friends or how well she knew him, just that she did. She was going to make him pay for two drinks for that. âSit, sit,â she pulled back, taking a seat and patting the bench next to her. âWho exactly are you hiding from that youâre so desperate for anyone to help you out?âÂ
Lucy & Darcy
summervillcs¡:
âLucyâŚâ Darcyâs voice lowered a few decibels. She understood that it must be difficult for her cousin âto watch Darcy get pregnant so easily and with the man sheâd been in love with. âI understand, but⌠Itâs not a competition. Nobody here was won anything.â She came over and kneeled beside Lucy on the floor. âYouâll still be a mother some day⌠A wonderful one.â The brunette sighed and placed her hand on her cousinâs back, rubbing up and down in small, soothing motions. âYou havenât lost me. Iâm sorry I didnât tell you sooner. I was scared.â
Lucy sighed, finally feeling a little relief from the last couple of nights. Everything was so messed up and in such a short amount of time, her head was still spinning. âI know. I didnât even realize how... upset I was about everything. I am not envious of you. That implies I wish it away from you. I just wish I could go through it with you.â She ran her fingers over her swollen eyes and then reached up, wrapping her arms around Darcyâs neck. âI am happy for you, really. And yeah, part of me had seen a future with Atticus, but Iâm beginning to think that relationships are just too messy. Not worth the pain. Especially since I canât seem to make good choices. I, either, fall for the assholes who treat me like shit and leave when things get rough, or for someone who is already somebody elseâs. Iâll just marry Diana and she can have an open relationship on her end.â
dianahamilton¡:
âOkay, I have two gallons of ice cream, some magazines, gummy bears, andâŚ. tequila,â Diana held up the giant bottle of tequila as she entered Lucyâs apartment. âIâll go get us a couple of cups. Find us something to watch.â
@lucygrayson
Lucy smiled sadly when she saw Diana come in. Of all the things that Lucy named off, the tequila sounded the most appetizing. âThanks, Diana.â She sat up from laying on the couch, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders and reached for the remote. She began shuffling through her Netflix and finally settled on The Office. When Diana came in the room, Lucy did the grabby hands at one of the cups and quickly took a sip of the tequila. She welcomed the burn down her throat. âTequila is so nasty,â she muttered as she took another sip, just happy for any escape.
dallaswebb¡:
ââDid I really grab your coffee instead of mine?â Dallas frowned, holding the cup out to read the name on the cup, before raising his eyebrows, mouth dropping. âWow, I really did do that. I am so sorry. âAllow me to buy you a new drink, please,â he insisted, pulling out his wallet to grab a few billsâ more money than a coffee cost, but he felt really bad. âIâm an impatient idiot and a little delirious from caffeine withdrawals, and heard them say my name. Or what I thought was my name.â
âYou really are out of it before your caffeine, Dal. I donât know how you would think Lucy sounds like Dallas.â She chuckled and took the cup. âYou donât have to buy another one, weâre family, after all.â When they finally called up his name, she grabbed the drink and motioned for him to follow, leading him to an empty table in the corner. She set his drink across from her. âYou need to be careful about throwing those bills around.â
rossjulian¡:
ââHey, listen. Iâm in a situation where I just saw someone Iâm trying to avoid, and I would really like them to not see me, or if they do see me, I have an excuse for why I canât stand around talking to them or whatever, so could you like⌠pretend to know me or whatever? Iâll buy you a fucking drink or something for your trouble. Dinner. Breakfast. Whatever you fucking want, just do me this favor, please,â Julian murmured hastily as he peeked over his shoulder.Â
Lucy looked up from her book and raised her eyebrow. âThat shouldnât be hard since I do know you. Hello, Julian. And that drink better be something strong.â She put her book down and turned her attention to him and cleared her throat. âOh my god, Julian!â She jumped up and brought him into a hug. âI havenât seen you in years! How have you been?! We need to catch up! Right now! Tell me EVERYTHING!â

âI understand.â He nodded sadly, trying to smile through the pain, and let out a soft sigh. He took their joined hands, and gave her a careful kiss on her knuckles, before gently pulling out of her grasp. âI should go.â He pushed up from his seat and turned, standing over her. âLucyâŚ. I really am so sorry how this all happened. You⌠deserve so much better than this. I hope you know how special you are. AndâŚ. Iâm very confused about everything right now, but I will always care about you, even if we arenât together anymore.â He shouldâve turned away, but instead, leaned down, kissing her forehead one last time. âIâll see you.â
Lucy closed her eyes when he kissed her forehead. Part of her wanted to say she was being stupid and just hug him, but she couldnât make herself move to do it. âYeah, see you.â She smiled sadly. Hearing him say all those things about how she didnât deserve it and that she was such a special person only made her heart hurt more. If she was so special, why was she alone? She took a deep breath, relationships really werenât worth the agony.
