To us the normal is, well, normal right? But the more you think about what we consider normal the madder you get, because everything seems so crazy, so abnormal. Per example: A fish has no lungs, yet it breathes. It has no lungs because it uses it's gills, branquia, whatever you wanna call them. The water goes in, rich with oxygen and it comes out rich with Co2, carbon dioxyde. Its circulatory system is closed, which means blood is only transported inside blood vessels. The blood reaches the heart, where there are only two cavities. There are two cavities where we have 4 and yet...it's alive. And if you had no idea of what a fish was, besides it's colours and locomotion, you'd think I was mad. Yet it's still a fish and it's still alive
Moreso, another example: wood frogs. They have the capacity to hibernate for years. They have no heart beat, no external-internal gass exchanges with the world yet they are alive. Their eyes dont move, their legs dont move, their heart doesnt beat. AND YET... they are alive. By all human definitions they are dead, but come spring they wake and move about fresh as a spring daisy and they are alive. If I told you this, to anyone with only basic knowledge about what a normal frog is, they'd think me mad. They'd say it was a bear because, per definition, we are taught in schools mostly only bears hibernate.
Yet it's still a frog and it is, against all odds, still alive
IF | told you - me and you, we that are stuck in a cave, Plato's allegory of the cave fresh on your mind for this, please - IF I told you my phone was an apple you'd believe it. You - who has no idea what a phone is, or an apple- knowing just that it should be eaten by demand of your growling belly-, you would believe it. And you would go on and bite it, famished as you were. And upon tasting metal, armed with only your knowledge of what metal tastes like because you tasted a coal ore once, YOU my friend would tell me it was a coal ore.
And l, with no knowledge whatsoever of what anything was, I'd taste the phone and the coal ore AND! should they taste the same I would affirm and declare it was a coal ore:
Yet, it was still a phone
The two of us, stuck in a room, never having stepped outside, we would gloat that it was a coal ore to those that watch us through our glass walls and we'd be thought insane!
Because to them, those who know what a phone is and what an apple is and what a coal ore is, to them we are crazy, not right off the head, whatever expression or word you wanna use:
Yet, to us, it's still a coal ore
And even should we prove that it is a coal ore, should it actually be a coal ore, we would be shunned and called names and crazyness would be thought to rule us:
Yet it would still be a coal ore, scientifically proved
You wanna go out there, show yourself to the world and say you are normal. To me, you are. To you, I am:
But to them we represent everything that isn't normal. If you were part deer and I were part countless animals, you'd be prey and I'd be an eldritch horror.
AND YET... we are still normal, in our own definition
You wanna go out there, affirm you are normal?! Fine! I've seen this countless of times throughout history.
How countless lives were lost on the count of their normal being considered abnormal! Galileu Galilei, Martin Luther King, women to men in power, COUNTLESS OTHERS! Yet they never learn!
I love you, I can't see you go, but... but you go out there you are prey and I CAN'T do anything more for you...you want to go? Go ahead. But don't forget: fish, wood frog, apple, coal ore, human or not they'll affirm we are mad!
AND YET we are still normal
-Hello, it's just a little thing I wrote. Um, it was initially inspired by my OC's who are, indeed, part animals, but as I read it again I realized the anger I feel for the countless lives lost throughout history in countless movements shone bright. Especially lgbtq+ rage, me being a member of the community. So I guess you can read it as such.
