Much like basically every woman on the show having a primary career in sex work, the religious tones felt extremely pointed to the overall story. Levinson tried to make euphoria a show about America and ended up with three poorly executed stereotypes: Christianity, cowboys, and sexual freedom. The religious angle was surface level and made to tie a nice little bow around the show so we all feel better that Rue is in Christian Heaven with her father and nothing bad will ever happen again, Amen. The western theme was for aesthetics only and contrasted so starkly with the preceding tone of the show it felt jarring and wrong. And I've already written about how unfortunately written the women on this show are treated, but fucking hell! We can't have anything can we. The only sexual freedom in this show is given to the men already in power with massive amounts of wealth that can pick and choose which scared and desperate young girl to manipulate. That's not freedom, it's servitude.
