How to "get it":
Ask yourself, how does this piece make you feel? (No wrong answers)
Look for an artist statement nearby. What does it say about the artist and their relationship to their work? What does the artist say that they are trying to convey with their art? What contextual clues can you pick up from what they say about their background, or what they omit?
Look at the title of the piece. What is the artist saying about their work by naming it that, either explicitly or implicitly?
Look at the medium. Is there anything about the piece that stands out to you, knowing what it's made of?
Look at the year it was made. What cultural events might have been happening around this time? Was this piece part of a particular art movement? What was the purpose of that art movement, and what was it trying to say?
Accept that sometimes, you still might not get it. This is perfectly okay.

Day four of Processing
You may find yourself wondering if the other 3 days of processing are available. They are not, couldn't even have a consistent feeling let alone a consistent thought. Anyway here's wonder wall.....
So today the trigger for the drip of anxiety was going on while in a bad mood. Which seems like a small thing ,but if you put enough cptsd triggers together everything is a fight for survival, including dinner.
I digress and want to affirm ✨️nothing of note occured✨️ however my system is screaming it is about how the other shoe is going to drop. Despite those massive roiling feelings, no one myself or my partner is in a bad place. They were hungry and anxious for other reasons(mostly the greasy breakfast i made being mean to our guts) and i am not only safe but we are talking about me having this reaction.
Yet, all this brings me to my biggest lesson from this which is. No matter how small it feels or how much easier it is to just your feelings down and away it will add up. You will build triggers to that trauma and it will only feel heavier as the grains of fallout amass on your parasympathetic nervous system. I had anxiety around finance and that is why i pushed my feelings down and kept letting that fallout become too toxic to ignore as it rotted my poor bones.
Once again, I am safe and i will never get to know if i would have been able to push thru if i tried harder or did something different or picked other words or a different manner of presentation. I didn't so now i have wisdom, and i hope dear reader you can glean something. Don't let it go, take up space. I am lucky that i get to be in a relationship style where we can decide not to live together anymore(for now, forever is for myth) and still love eachother and be partners. Me not being vocal, them not having access to technique to regulate big feelings has left holes that only space and time can fill in. Good luck, it's easier to have small pain early than days of a slow drip of every conversation, feeling, and response you denied yourself.
