There's always a moment of intense cultural whiplash whenever I realize I'm talking to someone who thinks "legal" and "illegal" are meaningful categories and ascribes innate goodness to following the law. It's like meeting a space alien.

i get why people don't believe in marriage as a social construct but legally it is the best and easiest way to say "this is who i trust to take care of me when i can't take care of myself" and i'm so glad gay people fought for that right bc when shit gets scary at least i know im in good hands

"it would be so good if it was good" will haunt you but "it's extremely good, except for the one or two parts which are so bad it's genuinely kind of insulting" will straight up drive you insane

I KNOW. That was what made me so angry about that. You do not trust the government to make choices about your healthcare (valid, the United States government has made terrible decisions about healthcare) but you trust your insurance to decide if you deserve your surgery or not? Socialized medicine puts more power in the hands of doctors, so many doctors are distinctly frustrated with the health insurance system deciding what their patient needs or does not need to survive and denying necessary treatment because it is expensive and there is another (ineffective) treatment. Our medical system in the US is not working, I don’t know one person who has not had a negative experience, it kills people, it incentivizes people to ignore symptoms and warning signs until they are too sick to treat, we have massive healthcare deserts in poor areas because for-profit medicine does not want to help people if you cannot make money off it.

i don't need everything i read or watch or play to have gay characters but i do need it to not be so heterosexual that it obliterates any sense of human connection or pathos
