“What if I went right now?” Lovro rubs the inside of Ivan’s collar. “To do the military course?”
Ivan hums and closes his eyes. In front of him, a striking image is being developed.

SRAM S 3 + The Little Prince Part 2 | Part 1
“What makes the desert beautiful,” said the little prince, “is that somewhere it hides a well…”
i'm sorry but some people are acting as if they have never watched a movie/tv show or read a book before. just because you hate a character it doesn't mean the authors/showrunners have to eliminate them. just because a scene makes you uncomfortable it doesn't mean it's bad. just because the show isn't directly telling you “this is not right” it doesn't mean they're endorsing the situation/action

sram je vjv najbolji remake cisto jer imamo evena koji citira bubu corellija u manicnoj epizodi
jel ima kojih hrvata ode na tumblru…..
There is a conversation to be had about prevailing fandom trends toward shitposting/intended-as-comedy/intended-as-absurdism short tumblr posts that are divorced entirely from canon becoming one of the dominant forms of content, and how that content influences the production of other forms of content including art but particularly fic, and how it’s driving the “all canon is ours now to toss out the window and call it transformative I guess” style of things.
There is a conversation to be had about that, and how it’s warping what transformativity as a means of engagement with media means. Problem is, it’s become tangled up with the “all literature and actually all storytelling ever is fanfiction” discourse, and so many people seem to define their personalities by their place in fandom subculture, that it’s becoming impossible to criticise fandom without being labelled a no good meanie fun hater and also an elitist snob who just can’t stand for people to enjoy themselves. Every time a conversation about this gains any traction, someone has to slam down like the hand of god to remind everyone that it’s actually okay to have fun!, and the actual intent of the conversation is lost, because it’s more important than anything that we soothe hurt feelings.
The thing is, it’s not only the feelings of the people who can only parse new content through old tropes that matter. There are people out there - and this may seem shocking to many of you - who don’t hate the canon on which their fandom is based. People who want to engage with the themes and storylines and world of their preferred canon in a way that probably gets them accused of being boring sticklers. Strangely enough, this is an equally “valid” way of engaging with media! Just because it doesn’t tickle your funny bone or tick your trope bingo boxes doesn’t make it bad!
It is increasingly difficult to find fanworks that relate meaningfully to the canons, across many fandoms, on which they’re purportedly based. I’ve seen some people put this down to “oh well, we’re all in lockdown and need a fun escape so being serious would be bad for our mental health” - okay, fine. That makes sense for some people. But it still doesn’t explain the strong trend over the past three years where every fandom seems to have taken the same journey to the same trends, where all canons must be beaten to the same tune.
the sram director saying that she was surprised at how openly accepting isak’s friends were when he came out because that just wouldn't happen in croatia is so real.
also her admitting that the writers didn't realise they had left out “iconic” moments until after they wrote the season is funny to me & I fully respect it. the creators don't owe us anything, really, and I hope they maintain this attitude moving forward. I think the best remakes are ones that divert from the original and craft a story that stands on its own. the best scenes in s3 and in sram overall are the ones that are vastly different to og (imo). although it is a remake, the characters are not carbon copies of the og, so what worked in skam might not serve these characters best.
I don't think a parallel universe talk would have made sense for lovro and ivan because, frankly, they don't talk to each other like that. they're not that sappy! and that's fine because they communicate their love for each other differently.
I think sram gets held back by the fact that it's a remake sometimes and has to follow the general plot of the original show. this is where season 2 fell short, especially in the last few episodes. s3 worked much better because they were a bit looser. the changes in the latter half of the season made the reconciliation in episode 9 much deeper and lovro’s acceptance of himself much more catharic.
changes aren't always going to be good, of course. s3 was imperfect, but when it was good, it was great. agree to disagree, of course. but I appreciate that enough changes were made that we can debate about it! otherwise, we'd be bored. remakes need to justify their existence and making changes and carving their own identity is how they do that.
I think anyone not from the Balkans needs to honestly be quiet about the way this season is written, the way the queer romance plays out, the question of censorship, all of it. Yes, all of us from all over the world can love and enjoy Sram. But we also need to take a second to remember this show was not made for us. This show is for people living in and from the Balkans and if you are not included in that group, quiet down.
I am not from the Balkans. I have never been to the Balkans. I don’t understand enough about Balkan culture to have the right to state my opinion, and I think that should go for everyone. If someone who is actually from the Balkans is trying to explain something, and you, who have never been there, are disagreeing with them, then it’s time to be quiet and listen.
You’re allowed to have an opinion, but have some self-awareness and think of the optics of what you’re saying before you hit post.
