loved reading that Jelena interview about s3 because everything she says comes across perfectly throughout the season. you can tell how much care they put into portraying this story in a way that is appropriate for the context that it's set in. I know we all talked about censorship throughout the season but I've always affirmed that I think the team were aware of the limitations involved in depicting this story on national tv and managed to create something more honest and genuine because of those limitations. framing the whole season around lovro’s shame and reluctantance to be intimate made perfect sense given the climate in croatia and allowed them to tell a subtle but inviting story about LGBT youth in croatia.
there's a reason this season has resonated with queer people more than any other remake!
anyone else still streaming the sram s3 soundtrack daily?

for those of you feeling like there's a sram shaped hole in your heart rn, I'd highly recommend watching high school (2022) on prime. It's got such a similar feel to sram (season 3, mostly) and it's one of the few teen shows that feels authentic and grounded in its portrayal of a queer coming of age.
ivan’s been on my mind a lot this week esp as I’ve had a difficult time with my mh lately.
I’ve said a number of times that I like ivan and lovro much more than other versions of this story because it genuinely feels like there’s an acknowledgement that this isn’t an easy situation and what the two of them have might be for a finite amount of time.
ivan is so burdened with guilt and shame about his bipolar disorder and that feeling just doesn’t go away, no matter how many times a loved one will tell you that it’s fine. “you’re afraid, I can see it in your eyes” keeps circling in my mind. it’s easy to make false promises when you’re young and inexperienced, but the reality is much harder. that’s not to say that you can’t find lasting love if you struggle with your mh, but it’s not an easy road, and it’s not easy on your partner as well.
the show doesn’t need to be an ultra-realistic portrayal of this stuff because at its core skam wants to show us that there is light and hope amidst the chaos of the world, especially for young people. I just think sram would elevate itself even higher than skam if it stayed consistent with its restrained outlook on young love: that it is real, significant, and all-absorbing but also fleeting. the act of falling in love and taking risks for love is intrinsically hopeful and powerful, regardless of whether or not that love is everlasting.
you know where that love is everlasting? In our hearts and minds. In our dreams.

love skam s3 to death but the idea of sram season 3 ending with “everything is love” is laughable to me… like unfortunately in this economy (2026) everything is not love.

SRAM S3E2 / S3E7 / Lovro + Shark Slippers
happy birthday, jakov nolastname! <3
the sram director saying that she was surprised at how openly accepting isak’s friends were when he came out because that just wouldn't happen in croatia is so real.
also her admitting that the writers didn't realise they had left out “iconic” moments until after they wrote the season is funny to me & I fully respect it. the creators don't owe us anything, really, and I hope they maintain this attitude moving forward. I think the best remakes are ones that divert from the original and craft a story that stands on its own. the best scenes in s3 and in sram overall are the ones that are vastly different to og (imo). although it is a remake, the characters are not carbon copies of the og, so what worked in skam might not serve these characters best.
I don't think a parallel universe talk would have made sense for lovro and ivan because, frankly, they don't talk to each other like that. they're not that sappy! and that's fine because they communicate their love for each other differently.
I think sram gets held back by the fact that it's a remake sometimes and has to follow the general plot of the original show. this is where season 2 fell short, especially in the last few episodes. s3 worked much better because they were a bit looser. the changes in the latter half of the season made the reconciliation in episode 9 much deeper and lovro’s acceptance of himself much more catharic.
changes aren't always going to be good, of course. s3 was imperfect, but when it was good, it was great. agree to disagree, of course. but I appreciate that enough changes were made that we can debate about it! otherwise, we'd be bored. remakes need to justify their existence and making changes and carving their own identity is how they do that.

Lovro Being Filmed in the First & Last Clip of Season 3
#Goodbye to “Life with Lovro”
I'm probably in the minority who thinks the filip subplot was one of the best changes made in s3. not only does it paint a more realistic portrayal of what would happen within this context, but it also shows us just how vulnerable lovro felt as he was coming to terms with his sexuality.
the last thing you want anyone to do when they find out you're gay is look at you differently, and it's a harsh reality when they do. lovro is unrecognisable to filip and all lovro can do is apologise because he doesn't want to lose a friend. It's other people’s choices not yours that alienate you. but it's hard to understand that at first because of the perception that you are being deliberately provocative. filip literally says “it's cool to be gay now”. It's such a common rhetoric in this age, as there are now larger queer communities in different places, like on the internet, and they are much more accessible. I see it amongst the younger generation in my country who are very online and aware of the growing norms across the world, but are still very homophobic and transphobic. It comes from less of a place of ignorance but a genuine push back against progression and under the disguise of religion, men’s rights, you name it. we’re also seeing it more and more in “lgbt friendly countries” where right-wing rhetoric is pushing back trans rights.
all of this to say, it's still difficult to cut people off right away when they present their hateful beliefs to you because really and truly nothing has changed for you. you are who you are. It's them, they are the ones choosing to hold onto these beliefs. for lovro, I think filip’s reaction of disgust affirmed lovro’s own disgust with himself. so he kept apologising, trying to talk to him, afraid of the alienation. until he learnt to accept himself and learnt to let go. it's him, not me. it's them, not us.
