"A full moon? I don't know..."
His voice was so low that you almost didn't hear it.
Hyunjin rolls his eyes, "Come on dude. It's one night in the woods. I don't think that we are going to be slaughtered by wolves.â
Chan looked a little skeptical at thatâshifting slightly on his feet in discomfort.
Maybe it wasnât the thought of a rabid animal that was bothering himâmaybe it was his fear of the dark?
The woods around your town were a little spookyâseemingly darker than any other place.
âCome on Chan! You never want to come with us,â Jisung whined.
âPlus if anything tries to eat usâIâm sure youâll scare them off with your muscles,â you piped up.
Changbin let out a low whistle as the skin of Chanâs cheeks tinted red at your compliment.
âNow you have to go,â Changbin teasesâbumping shoulders with Chan.
Thatâs how a week later you found yourselves unloading your camping gear in the middle of the forest.
Your eyes trailed to Chan who had been working on setting up one of the tents. His skin was paler than normalâa sheen of sweat glistening at his brow despite the cold autumn air.
âHey,â you smiled, as you walked closer to him.
Chan startled at the sound of your voiceâfumbling with one of the rods.
Chan didnât meet your eyes as he continued working on the tent.
âDo you need any help?â
Chan shook his head, âNo I got it. You should go help the others. Make sure Ji doesnât catch himself on fire.â
There was a hint of humor to his tone, but you couldnât help but to feel uneasy at the interaction between the two of you. Chan hadnât spoken to you much on the ride up. You wondered if he was upset with you for joining in with the guys by teasing him to get him to come on the trip.
âChan,â you called his name softly.
âAre you feeling okay,â you asked, reaching out a hand towards his forehead.
He jumped at your touchânot having seen it coming from being focused on building the structure of the tent.
You gasped as you retracted your hand. He was burning to the touch.
âChan you have a fever!â
Chan shushed youâcasting a glance over his shoulder to see if any of the others heard.
âY/n, Iâm okay reallyâ.â
âYou donât look okay at all Chan! Do you want me to take you home? I can get the keys from Lix andâ.â
âI said Iâm fine,â he growled.
You stumbled back at the animal sound leaving his throat. Eyes wide as they locked with the now ice blue of his gaze.
You blinked and they were gone. The curl of Chanâs lips softened as he took in your rigid form.
You shake your head, standing up and brushing the leaves from your pants before walking on shaky legs back to the others.
Chan doesnât say anything and he doesnât have to.
Itâs not the wolves that he was worried about.
It was his wolf he was worried about.
The others were too busyâlaughing or occupied with their own tasks that they didnât notice the tension between you and Chan.
One thing was for certainâChan hadnât wanted any of you to know and from the looks of itâyou were the only one that saw the slight shift just now.
You had to get him away without worrying the othersâyou just didnât know how.
Night was soon approaching. The sky was a dark blueâstars beginning to spot the sky. Jisung was playing his guitar while he and Seungmin sang a song horribly out of tune.
Minho and Changbin watched them fondlyârolling their eyes at their antics but the tiny smiles on their faces told you they were enjoying the show. Felix, Hyunjin, and Jeongin worked to make dinner for all of you.
By now your stomach would have been growling. Something about Felixâs food on a camping trip in the outdoors had always hit the spot, but your mind had been reeling since the revelation. You couldnât think of anything else except for how you were going to get Chan out of there before the moon showed itself in full.
Chan took a seat next to you, a plate in his hand.
âYou havenât eaten.â
âI havenât had the stomach to.â
You see the way Chanâs fists clench around the paper plate. Itâs then that you notice that the plate had all of your favorites.
Your heart fluttered in your chest.
âIâll try to eat,â you say, reaching for the plate.
Chanâs brown eyes are wide as you take it.
He nods but doesnât say anything more.
The others are too occupied with one another to pay the two of you any mind.
âAbout earlier Iâ.â
âHow are we going to get away from them without it being obvious that something is wrong?â
Chanâs brow furrowed as he echoes, âWe?â
You turn to him, noticing that the symptoms from earlier had only gotten worse. You were shocked that none of the guys had noticed yet.
âWell, you canât just go on your own. Youâre in no state to drive and theyâre going to wonder why you wondered off in the woods by yourself. You know Hyunjin will send a search party for you. That being a terrified Jisung with a flashlight of course.â
Chan couldnât help but to huff a laugh at that but the look of worry still didnât leave his face.
âYeah, we canât have that happening.â
You thought for a moment, popping a peace of chicken into your mouth.
âWe could tell them we need some time alone,â you suggest.
Chanâs ears turn red at the suggestion.
âI donât think itâs a good idea.â
âThey know we like each other. It will be the easiest way to get away without them suspecting anything.â
Chanâs face is etched with worry, âIâm not saying it wouldnât work. Iâm saying you shouldnât be with me when I change. You need to be in your tent. Out of sight out of mind.â
You know he doesnât mean it like that but you canât help but to think he has other feelings he isnât sharing.
âLook. I donât plan on sticking around to become your dinnerâ,â you spat.
Chan flinches at the harshness of your words.
âOnce youâre at a safe distance then Iâll head back before nightfall. If anyone catches me Iâll tell them we got into it or something and needed space. Then you can sneak back in the morning while they are knocked out. Plus, it wonât be a total lie.â
âWhat are you love birds yapping about,â Changbin sing songs as he makes his way over to the two of you.
You turn towards him, plastering a believable smile on your face.
âAbout how we are supposed to get any alone time with the seven of you around.â
Changbinâs eyes widen for a momentâbut then a smirk tugs at the corner of his lips as he looks between the two of you.
Chan shifts uncomfortably next to you, but to Changbin it may just be perceived as nervousness.
âAhâwell donât you two worry about that. Go off and have your fun. If anyone asksâIâll cover for you,â he winks before rejoining the others as Jisung starts strumming the beginnings of another song.
You turn to Chan, shrugging, âSee? Totally believable.â
You finish off some of the food on your plate as you stand.
âCome on. It will be dark before you know it.â
Chan looks like heâs going to protest but before he canâyouâre walking away from him to dispose of your garbage.
You donât miss the way Changbinâs eyes follow the two of you as you move to make your way further into the forest. Puckering his lips at you in a teasing way.
You grab onto Chanâs hand, ignoring the heat burning through your gloves. Chan doesnât protestâjust leads you further into the woods.
When a blanket of trees finally covers the two of you, Chan releases your hand. You canât help but to be slightly disappointed. As if things werenât weird enough between the two of you before learning his secretâthey surely were now.
You eyed the expanse of Chanâs back as the two of you continued to walk.
âHere,â you said, offering the flashlight to him.
His head turned slightly, the same pale eyes you had saw earlier flashing momentarily.
âIâm good. Keep that for yourself.â
You huff, a hint of irritation running through your veins.
When youâre about two miles from the group, Chan stops walking. The land is flatâbarely any called trees or leaves. Only some rocks and flowers sprouting from the ground. Thereâs a small stream before himâone that looks as if itâs glowing in theâ.
Chanâs breathing is uneven.
âYou have to go Y/n. Right now.â
You take a step forward but just as you do so, Chan cries out in agony falling to his hands and knees.
He holds a dirtied hand up, stopping you from coming any closer.
âPlease,â he hissed, letting out a canine sounding whimper.
Your eyes widen as you take a step back. The heel of your foot comes in contact with a rock, throwing off your balance as you land with a harsh âthudâ twisting your ankle in the process.
You cry out in painâthe sound of your name barely leaving Chanâs lips before heâs growling. Youâve dropped your flashlight in the processâbarely able to make out Chanâs figure in the shadows. The sound of bones popping and pained grunts makes you wince.
You fight through the pain, using your arms and your good leg to pull your body across the earth until you were propped against a tree stump.
Your fingers fumbled with the flashlight you had managed to retrieve in the process.
The sound of silence frightened you more than that of Chanâs grunting and the sounds of his bones seemingly dislocating themselves.
You moved the light to the spot where you had left him. He growledâan arm coming up to block his face from the penetrating light.
Chan lowered his arm at the sound of his name.
His eyes glowed, elongated fangs protruding from his mouth as his lips pulled back in a snarl. He turned fully towards you and stood. His shirt was long gone. It was then that you noticed the marks of three long and surely painful scars running from his lower abdomen and up his side. His hands and the sharp points of his nails covered in the dark soil of the earth.
Your eyes burned with unshed tears as he took a step towards you.
He was much taller and broader than before. The remainder of his pants ripped and stretched in the places where his limbs elongated and his muscles expanded.
This was itâyou were about to be murdered by your crush. Eaten alive and never to be seen again.
You closed your eyesâbracing yourself for pain but it never came. Just a dark abyss consuming you, before you lost consciousness.
You awoke to the call of your name.
You felt the deep vibration of a growl beneath your head.
Your eyes fluttered open to find a tuft of black fur blocking your vision.
You didnât want to move away from the fluffy blanket beneath you.
You blinked your eyes open then. Body freezing at the blanket beneath your head slowly moving up and down.
ExceptâŚit wasnât a blanket.
You lift your head slightlyâall too aware of the sweat and coating your skin and the weight of a large limb around your waist.
A low menacing growl makes you freeze.
Chan had fully transformedâthe large black wolf holding you in his grasp protectively.
Thereâs a snap of a branch to your left. Your head tilts to find Felix, eyes wide as he looks between you and the giant wolf.
You blink at the blonde. Heâs barely visibleâthe light of his phone being his only source of guidance.
Your gaze shifts between Felix and Chanâ Chanâs blue eyes are fixed on Felix.
The wolf turns towards you at the nicknameâa low wine leaving the wolf. His nose touches your temple, tongue swiping across your heated skin in a comforting motion.
This was a complete 360 from the beast you had seen earlier.
You shift your attention from the wolf to Felix.
âI-Iâm okay. I think?â
Felix looks unsure as he looks between you and the wolf that has you in his grasp.
The wolf huffs in responseânuzzling further into your hair.
Felix stares in disbelief and complete awe.
âHe didnât hurt you right?â
You shake your head, âNo, I passed out when he was beginning to transform and now Iâm here.â
The wolf curls himself further around you.
Felix lets out a breath of air.
âIâll let the others know,â Felix says as he takes a step back.
Chan growls in warning at the male.
You eye Felixâwho looks about ten seconds away from fleeing.
âMaybe just tell them you found us and that we will be back in the morning. Andâ,â you paused meeting the wolfâs gaze who already had his focus on you, âMaybe donât mention what you saw to the others?â
Felix nods, running a hand through his hair, âYeahâyeah, okay.â
Felix backs away slowly, disappearing into the tree line.
You turn to Chan thenâhis pale blue gaze fixed onto you.
âYou didnât hurt me?â
Chanâs eyes look sad, a low whine leaving him at that as he lowers his head into your lap.
You carefully reach outârunning a hand through his furâgently scratching at the back of his ears.
A low rumble leaves the wolf as he nuzzles further into your stomach.
It isnât long before sleep is calling your name once moreâthe warm body around you lulling you to sleep.
You feel the heat of the sun on your face as you awake. It doesnât take you long to notice the absence of the warm fur that pillowed your headâinstead replaced by a warm chest.
Your eyes fluttered openâthe soft brown eyes that you were used to meeting your gaze.
The two of you just stare at eachother, not sure of what to say.
âSo,â you began, âYouâre a werewolf.â
Chan huffed a laugh, âYeah. I am.â
âWhy didnât you say anything?â
Chan sighed, his arms tightening around your waist.
âItâs not exactly a conversation starter. Plus, you and I were finally starting to see eachother in another lightâI didnât want to risk it.â
Chanâs eyes were sad as he stared up at the morning sky. You couldnât help but to frown. Your mind still couldnât wrap around the fact that the man you had been crushing on for over a year was a wolf. But you also knew how much it must have weighed on him to keep that secret from you.
âIf itâs any consolation, this doesnât change the way I feel about you.â
Chan turns his gaze back to you, his eyes are bright but you see the hint of hesitation in his features.
You nod, tightening your arms around his waist.
âReally. Plus now when we go camping I donât have to worry about getting eaten by an animal. They have to worry about you eating them.â
Chan rolled his eyes at that, but smiled nonetheless.
In the next moment, his lips were on yours in a brief kiss. You felt your cheeks burn at the unexpected kiss.
Chan smiled down at you, his dark hair hanging in his eyesâa smile stretched upon his plush lips.
âFor not running away. For not being terrified of me.â
You smiled, running a hand through his hair, âIn that case, can I get another one?â
Chan smiled, leaning in until your noses were brushing and his breath was intertwined with your own, âAs many as you wish my love.â
note: aaand the ending was a bit crap but also kind of sickeningly cute. let me know what you thought~ donât forget to reblog!!
