ALL KNIVES OUT MOVIES ARE ABOUT CHOOSING KINDNESS.
ALL KNIVES OUT MOVIES ARE ABOUT DRINKING THE RESPECT WOMEN JUICE.
ALL KNIVES OUT MOVIES ARE ABOUT FUCKING AROUND AND FINDING OUT.
*I am forcibly pulled away from the microphone*
Just watched the newest Knives out movie wake up deadman and spoilers but poor blanc he really spends a majority of the movie babysitting a catholic priest bc every time that man leaves his sight he is accidently finding a new crime scene or deciding he needs to confess to a crime he didn't commit

the benoit blanc movies show really beautifully how to write a queer character whose story is not centered around their queerness. it's shown that benoit blanc is gay married (to hugh grant!) it's shown that he participates in queer mediums like musical theater and fashion, but none of those things are ever explicitly remarked on. he doesn't have a big coming out scene because he doesn't need one; and the subtle details about him not speaking to his mother, the way he associates a church with homophobia, allows us to draw conclusions about how his family felt about his queerness without making that the sole conflict in his story. the conflict in benoit blanc's story is not that he exists in the world as a gay person, it's that he's always trying to wrangle a bunch of 30 somethings into not confessing to crimes they didn't commit
There's a line in the film where Victor says "Why are you afraid of me, I'm not going to hurt you I'm your maker" and this line is so devastating because it's true. To Victor, or at least up until that point he really doesn't intend to hurt the Creature, and yet the Creature is still afraid. We still view Victor's action and the tone of his voice, his emotions as threatening bc Victor doesn't control his frustrations towards this vulnerable and infantile being and those loud emotions feel very scary. And this is so common among parents who haven't healed themselves, inflicting these raw unfiltered expressions then becoming even more angry when the child reacts negatively or shows fear. Victor doesnt understand that his intentions do not matter and that the very nature of his state is threatening to the Creature.
Same energy as that one video from forever ago where the guy is sitting with the Chihuahua and explaining that the tone of voice you use to down to your pet is usually more important than the words themselves, since they generally don’t understand. The guy leans down and shouts angrily, “I LOVE YOU, DOG!” And the chihuahua cowers.
The creature is very animal-like, just in general. A bit more feral than the average human. In sound and action and preference and understanding. Gotta treat him a little bit like a nice pet, idk. Blud don’t know words.
Like when Victor tried to test him and says “Give me your leg.” Meanwhile the creature has literally no idea what he said, and Victor assumes he’s just being stubborn and intentionally difficult. Not to mention in that particular scene he was feeling intensely possessive of both Elizabeth AND the creature. Possessiveness is a big thing in him, and I was glad to see it brought over from the novel.
Something I like about Mary Shelley's Victor Frankenstein in comparison to GDT's is that they both make sense in the story they're trying to make with the specific themes they want to explore.
Shelley's Victor is young and immature and his immaturity it's the root of his ambition. The obsession with playing god comes from the childish notion that he can. He builds the creature messily. With stolen corpses and animal organs sewn un-uniformly in the midst of a frenetic trance. It's all blood and guts and dirt in his student apt's basement
Del Toro's Victor, however, is a much older man. He knows better. He's not horrified with The Creature's grotesque nature. He takes care in his task. He does it meticulously. Like dancing or orchestring a song. Like composing poetry.
When Shelley's Victor faces the creature, he's horrified. When Del Toro's Victor faces the creature, he's amazed. Shelley's Victor didn't consider the grotesque nature of his creation, thus entering a state of madness, sickness and detachment from his being. He's only a teenager, for God's sake, he's hardly 20. Barely, even. Some deep part of him wasn't even sure he would made it. But holy shit, he did. And he was so scared of what he made.
Del Toro's Victor. Oh Victor. He's sadistic to some extent. He wants to parade the creature like a big dog, but doesn't want to train him. It's just a project. A taxidermied owl. He's proud of it at first. Then he gets disappointed by what he considers a lack of intelligence and what that may say about him.
These two versions of the same character say so much about them but even more about how their creation would be. Shelley's creature is faced first with horror and disgust so that's all he knows until he learns there's love and resents the world and specially Victor for not allowing him to be loved. Del Toro's creature, on the other side, is met with gentleness first. With kindness and compassion. So, despite all the hostility around him, he decides to preserve that. Because he knows he's capable of being loved deep in his heart.
Frankenstein and his creature are two of the most prevalent characters in popular culture. People have used them and their tale to explore different themes and express different emotions. I believe Mary Shelley would be proud seeing how loved her creation is. Even if it's through Adam Sandler's Hotel Transylvania

Limp FASTER!
THE WITCHER | 4.04 A Sermon Of Survival
Geralt with Jaskier in S1: you're literally so fucking annoying I will shove you off this cliff myself istg you are nothing but an inconvenience and a thorn in my side
Geralt with Jaskier in S4: I am willing to let my guard down during an intense battle, nearly die to a wraith, and run toward an obvious trap in a danger swamp to get to you
HIS SMILE IS SO WHOLESOME ❤️
I see Jaskier and Milva are getting along just fine 😉
Jaskier creating a rumor that witchers can't taste honey and in fact, it's mildly poisonous to them. If you serve a witcher honey cakes or put some honey in their tea, they'll be forced to vacate the premises and will run away to heal.
This way people can "protect themselves from witchers, and banish them". And since the witcher can't taste the honey, the human is safe from retaliation! The monster hunter won't know who harmed them!
The rumor helps the witchers too. They can get a rare delicious treat, and a subtle warning that the humans are untrustworthy. If they taste honey, they should leave the town immediately as a Mob may form if they stay too long.
