Recent purchases from Newbury Comics, flea markets and other finds.
Cindy Wilson of the B-52s has a new album coming out in August on Kill Rock Stars (what a cool combo). Her latest single "Delirious" is pretty great! Two other songs have been released in advance of the album and I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the whole thing when it drops.
I don't think I've posted this before because I have no memory of ever seeing this. I remember hearing that it had happened, but I don't think I ever tracked down this footage of Terence Trent D'Arby fronting INXS in Sydney after the passing of Michael Hutchence.
Fairly certain this video got zero airplay in the US during the 90s, which explains why I wasn’t aware of it until recently. Love this track.

I don’t think I’ve come across many video interviews with My Bloody Valentine from back in the day. A little hard to hear the questions, but interesting to hear the band talk about the record business.
I'm sure this has been around for ages, but I just came across a Digg article about this 1988 cable access performance by the Smashing Pumpkins nearly 3 years before their debut full length, Gish. The new wave and post-punk influences are undeniable in the band's early stages and I think this makes me appreciate them even more. I also love that this footage contains false starts on the songs "My Eternity" and "Jennifer Ever".
I missed this cover of the Sugarcubes classic "Birthday" released by M.Ward last year. I think it is interesting, but nothing beats the original in my book.
Thank the gods for everything eventually being available on youtube. "Shasta - I Wanna... [Penguin] featuring Al Jourgensen!" (1983)
It is pretty interesting to hear Robert plant and Jimmy page covering The Cure's "Lullaby".

This is the strangest compact cassete format I've seen. I'd love to get my hands on one for the novelty factor alone.
What the hell is up with these graphics Spotify?
Maybe this new cassette is a sign that Tascam is considering production of updated analog cassette-based four tracks recorders. I had a first gen 424 in high school, and acquired a mkiii 6 years ago or so, but digitization of all my old masters have been slow going. I could see a new modern version with high quality DACs and USB outputs appealing to many!

This Swans video for New Mind from 1987 is quite a doozy. What’s not to like about an axe-wielding Michael Gira singing into a flashlight while the rest of the band is surrounded by tvs playing footage of eyes, mouths and fists?
Oscar Olsson's TT-90 System is a personal design project created to reimagine the turntable as an interesting wall mounted unit. Sign me up when it becomes available!

Chris Connelly and Paul Barker previewed material for their Coldwaves 9 set this weekend on the WaxTrax Records live stream on Twitch/Channel 66. Hopefully the link above takes you directly to their performance portion of the show.
Very entertaining and creatively shot early (80-82) INXS appearances on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s “Countdown” music program. Songs performed include: Simple Simon, Just Keep Walking, Loved One, Stay Young, Underneath The Colors, Night Of Rebellion, The One Thing and Don't Change.Â
The songs seem to be a mixture of lip-syncing and live instruments along with studio audience sounds. Eventually microphones and instrument cables are done away with, but the band proves those aren’t required for a great performance.
