Yuletide 2021 - what I wrote
Rather than one long assignment fic and a spray of shorter treats, which seems to be my usual Yuletide output, I just wrote my assignment fic and a longer treat this time, partly due to time, partly due to just getting really into these fics and wanting to do them justice:

A Warriorâs Spirit - Redwall, Janglur Swifteye & Martin the Warrior & OCs, 7453 words, G
An aging Janglur Swifteye receives a vision from Martin the Warrior. A young squirrelmaid many seasons in the future grapples with her duty to Redwall Abbey. A warriorâs spirit binds them all together.
How do the riddles and quests come about, through which Redwallâs past guides Redwallâs future? And what does it mean for Redwall to be eternally watched over by the spirit of Martin the Warrior?
Fun fact: aside from journals, climbing, worldbuilding, and Significant Trees, the main theme tying these two fics together for me is Kiddoâs First Fandom. Redwall is probably the first thing I got really fannish about between age nine and well into my early teensâI bought all the books and a lot of the additional material, joined the Redwall Readerâs Book Club, and came up with my own stories about brave warrior animals. And then, as a new-to-the-internet teen (or maybe even slightly younger?), the very first fan community I found and joined online was one for Myst, a game that my dad introduced me to and a setting that I became captivated with and have loved ever since. (My username for said fan community, and online ever since? Triss, from Redwall, naturally. The âHawkeyeâ bit came later at a point when Triss by itself was less readily available.) Getting the opportunity to revisit two beloved old fandoms for Yuletide this year was really special, and Iâm very glad their recipients enjoyed their gifts!
