Sorry, this isn't obvious to me from the FAQ, but shouldn't there be a lot of characters whose number does not exist (effectively infinite), regardless of ruleset? It's practically and even literally impossible to publish a paper or make a film without involving yourself in the broader community of artists, but a commercial video game can easily be a closed setting whose characters don't appear in crossovers or even easter eggs. Or maybe I just don't understand what counts?
Any specific example might just have a connection I'm not aware of, though. Does Saavedro (Myst III: Exile) have a Ryu number?

i attended Mysterium this weekend, and during the con i traded some art with other attendees. these are the three drawings i did in exchange for drawings and a very cute crocheted ytram (frog).
i don't know if the squee in the first drawing is properly to scale.

here's another silly little piece I made for Mysterium later this month— a handmade replica of Saavedro's hammer from Myst 3! the head is made of carved fursuit foam, so it's soft & totally harmless; even a pretty hard swing only hurts about as much as getting hit with a pillow. And the best part—
