I posted this on my bsky but I have come here to make a more in-depth post because this is like getting hit in the face with a water balloon in slow motion.
The year is 1993. I am visiting my Papa for the weekend. He introduces me to a puzzle game he's installed on his x386 computer, called Myst.
From the moment the first bars of the Cyan logo reached my ears, I was entranced. And then a voice began speaking. Friends, I have listened to this speech so many times I have it memorized. I was HOOKED even before I even got to the gameplay!
I played through the whole thing over the course of that weekend and the next. I had a whole notebook of notes for the puzzles. I had the fireplace code MEMORIZED.
Because of this guy -- Atrus, my first video game crush.
My god, I have such a type. In hindsight I should not have been surprised AT ALL that I fell so hard for Lodi.

Replaying Myst with my buddy and uh how did I forget what a wifeguy Atrus is? Itβs adorable? His kids are still cartoonishly assholish tho.
