real talk i have become a problem recently. the hospital wanted my fingerprint and i said no. the receptionist was like: but its such a convenient way to check in! and i said ok i dont want you to have my biometric data. and she was so baffled. i said, can you not check me in using an id card?

A see a lotta people in the notes here blaming the cashiers or telling stories about how they were dicks to cashiers about this. Yelling at them / being generally an ass.

Please know that cashiers hate asking your email as much as you hate giving your email. Trying to type letters as people say them quickly is a unique form of hell.

And more than than that - at least at my old retail job at build a bear - we had a whole chart in the back with who was the best at getting emails with a % of sales of who got the most emails. If you got a low % of emails we were shamed and essentially talked to like shit because we werent "doing enough"

Cashiers are not the enemy here. We hate asking. We hate needing to ask. We hate management being bitchy to us for not getting emails. But if we dont ask we get in trouble.

I haven't updated this blog in a while, so it's probably a good time to do an update on stuff for those who mostly following me here.

The big news is I got laid off from my primary job in October. A job I had for 16 years ended in a morning phone call out of the fucking blue that lasted for 4 minutes. It means my primary source of income went bye bye. I had a part time job that didn't pay great and that is being supplemented with unemployment. (New Hampshire Unemployment sucks ass by the way).

Because I'm getting unemployment I need to apply for a certain number of jobs a week. Amazingly I've been getting a bunch of interviews, mostly in service jobs, though so far no one has actually hired me yet. I do find it hilarious that my customer service skills, what I thought was a side hustle or a part time skill meant to be temporary, are my most marketable skills right now. Don't ever put down a certain industry, kids, you never know when it might save your ass. I did get an online interview for a journalism job, but I have no idea where that's going.

The income situation sucks, however I am now free of a job I fucking hated. I had been doing basically the same job for two different companies for 19 years and saw my wages stagnate, my insurance get pulled to save costs, and had to do the work of four people. I thought I hated journalism, but I have a feeling I just hated doing the small town, red county type of coverage.
