Marry Me Not Masterlist
âDid you not just tell me that having someone else by her side would cause controversy?â Confusion shone through Peterâs voice as the two of you wandered the Palaceâs hallways.
Your words must have flown over his head. You did not understand how he could not grasp what you planned on doing.Â
It was clear when you laid it out for him a second ago.
"Yes, I did."
His head tilted down as an incredulous look was sent your way. It was very easy to miss it with the way your eyes were adamant about looking ahead.
"But you are heavily convinced that, now, it is a great time to come out of the dark with Eve." His questioning tone fell on deaf ears as you nodded without a word. The small smile was the only indicator of how pleased you felt.
He attempted to unravel this mystery. However, to him, you were not making any sense. In fact, he worried you could have suffered a head injury.
You'd had insane ideas before. More than a healthy amount. None of them could have compared to this one, however.
"Because?" The brunette asked after a long pause.
âUgh.â The roll of your eyes along with a low groan caused the man to arch his eyebrow. âBecause I decided not to care.â You told him with a stiff smile as your body tilted to the side.
His steps faltered in bafflement as you kept walking. It was a bold statement. You always tried to fight your parents when it came to Eve, but you had never really gone against them.
You had never jeopardized their authority and status. Always following their rules no matter how much you disagreed with themâalso vocally.
All because you had believed, at least, your mother had wanted the best for you. Well, that changed quickly. Now, you knew the truth.
And you would not try to fit their agenda. You would not fall into an agreement just because she would ask you to.
It was time to live how you wanted.
âWhat?â You heard Peterâs bewildered voice from behind you. âWhat do you mean?â He quickly caught up with you, not taking his eyes off your face even for a second.
You had to admit, it was quite amusing.
âIf she can flaunt her lover without consequences, so can I.â You did not miss a beat while speaking.
The brunette could see there was no hints of hesitation on your expression. You were completely serious and ready.
âAre you not worried they will withdraw from the arrangement?â
You laughed out a scoff before looking at your friend. âThey are too greedy for it, Peter. They traded me off.â
âNo, I meant the Maximoffs.â Your brows scrunched at Peterâs suggestion. âThey do not seem to be intimidated by anyone.â He added. âEven your parents.â
Your jaw clenched before your teeth moved, gritting against each other. He had a point. The Maximoffs were a strong family that did not bow their heads easily. Their Kingdom was also strong thanks to the level-headed rulers.
But not as strong as Avengel.
âThey wouldn't.â You replied shortly. âThey donât want a war.â Peterâs head tilted at you in question as you took a turn. âMy father has only so much patience and heâs been waiting to possess their lands for a long time.â
The brunetteâs face changed into an understanding one. He knew how impulsive the King wasâespecially, when he was angry.
And it did not take a lot to anger him.
âHe is already barely tolerating the fact that Queen Iryna represents the family and not the King Consort Oleg.â The corners of Peterâs lips raised as a stiff line spread on his face. âIf they canceled now, he would not hesitate to forcefully take their Kingdom.â
You explained further to the boy who nodded in silent agreement.
But he did not need too much information. He had been around your family for enough years to notice how disgusting your fatherâs beliefs and actions were.
Sometimes, you hated how they would slip into you. Like when you couldnât have understood why Wanda was the heir instead of Pietro.
It was not impossible for a woman to be the heir in Avengel, but she would have to be the oldest child. Wanda was younger.
Nonetheless, you had always scolded yourself for thinking like that. You did not want to. You wanted this Kingdom to be inclusive and fair.
And your intention was to make it that way as soon as the crown would become yours.
Your empty eyes finally moved from a random spot on the floor when long, brunette hair flashed in their corner.
Eve.
Parting your lips, your hands unfolded from behind you. Your step quickened, leaving confused Peter alone as you rounded the corner.
âEve!â You called out, the girlâs back facing you as a few maids glanced your way. âEve!â You said again, not caring about others.
A tall man walked with her before turning his head and looking at you over his shoulder. Her father. He stopped, gently grabbing his daughterâs forearm before whispering to her.
His hand pointed lightly in your direction and Eveâs eyes raised enough to steal a glance at you. But it was only for a split second before her head dropped to the floor.
Your eyebrows furrowed and the smile instantly vanished from your face as you watched them converse.
His hand landed on the girlâs shoulder as he sent her a reassuring grin. It was so strange to see her body rise from the deep breath she visibly took.
The man looked at you again, raising his hand in a greeting as a short bow followed after. He left Eve standing alone before her eyes found you again.
You could not quite pinpoint what she felt in the moment. But one thing you could say was that her emotions were being kept away from you right now.
Hesitating for a second, you finally took slow steps towards her.
âHello.â You uttered out quietly, folding your hands behind your back as an uneasy grin spread on your face.Â
âGreetings, Your Highness.â She gracefully picked her dress with her fingertips before bowing.
âIâuh.â You cleared your throat, roaming your eyes around the hallway. âThere is no need for formalities.â You tried to ease the situation as her head stayed lowered, not letting you see the eyes you had wished to see for way too many days.
Her body shook as she took a breath before tilting her chin up, glancing at you shortly.
âYou are the royal heir, respect is due.â She quickly rebutted.
Your lips went dry at the sudden change in her behavior. Or maybe it was sudden to you. You hadnât seen her for quite some timeâand your last interaction did not end great either.
It was normal to expect some reservations from her side, but you wanted to fix your mistakes.
âDid you, uhââ You started, slightly rocking in place. âDid Clinton give you my letter?âÂ
Her tongue poked out to wet her lips before the bottom one was sucked in. âYes.â
The answer immediately caused you to smile. âWill youâaccept?â You hesitated, worrying about what the answer could be.Â
But she would not refuse. Right?
âI am unsure if it is a good idea.â Her voice turned small, almost inaudible, as she spoke.
Your body went numb, not believing that there would be an actual possibility of her rejection.
âW-why?â You stuttered out, blinking rapidly as your head shook.
âBecause I am a daughter of a Baron and you are a royal heir soon-to-be married to a Princess.â Her words came out harshly as her eyes finally connected with yours.
There was frustration swirling all over them. But also hurt and helplessness.
âEveââ You breathed out.
âI do not want to cause a scandal mere days away from the wedding.â
âAnd I do not care if we cause a scandal.â You quickly countered, causing her brown irises to widen in surprise. âWith you, it would be the most beautiful one in history.â
Your sugar-coated words made the girlâs mouth part before it formed a thin line. Her teeth sank into her bottom lip as you watched her fall deep in thought.
âI donât know, Elliott.â Her head shook. âYouâve been distant lately and I do not wish to put myself in an uncomfortable situation.â The look in her eyes almost broke your heart, how small she seemed because of it. âYour family knows what our association is, this alone would cause my presence to be an inconvenience.â
Inconvenience?
Your brows furrowed. You had been distant. Busy, more like. That was true and you hated yourself for it. For making her feel like this.
But you wanted to make things right. Make them better. Make up for your mistakes.
âPlease.â You took her hands in yours. âJust this one time.â Your pleading expression caused hers to soften as you stared into her eyes. âI will do right by you, just give me a chance.â
Her silence was defeaning. It got louder with each beat of your heart, ringing and banging in your ears. You needed her to agree. You needed to show her that you were not afraid anymore. That she would be there with you.
That she would not be in the shadows anymore.
That you would take her hand in yours despite the othersâ gawking.
That your attention would be put on her and not nobility that you could not give a single damn about.
That you would pull her to the middle of the dancefloor and hold her like yours.
Because she was yours.
And you were hers.
âOkay.â She finally uttered out.
You almost choked on your spit from happiness and shock, widening your eyes.
âReally?â
She nodded her head, smiling lightly at you in confirmation.
âThank you, thank you.â Your lips spread so wide they could hurt your face. But you did not care. Not now, when she agreed. âI already cannot wait.â You told her excitedly, causing her to giggle.
âI hope so.â She replied timidly. âBut I have to go, my father needs me.â She gestures to where the man left earlier, her smile turning into a small grimace.
âOf course, yes.â You quickly squeezed her hands before stepping away. âI will see you soon then.â You nodded at her with happiness painting your features.
âYes, Your Highness, see you soon.â She sent you one last smile before turning around and disappearing around the corner.
You stayed in the same place, completely overjoyed, staring at the empty hallway where she was a second ago.Â
She agreed.
At last.
Now, you only had to prepare for the inevitable disapproving looks and words from your parents.
But that would be simple. They cared about the wedding so much that you could use it as leverage.
They would not fight you. They couldnât. Not if they wanted to achieve what they had been planning for most of your life.
âYou genuinely left me behind just to send heart eyes like a love-struck moron?â Peterâs voice snapped your head in his direction. He was panting, probably from the short jog heâd had a few minutes ago.Â
âDid you want them too?â You asked teasingly, turning your body to him. âDo you feel left out Pete?â
His eyes rolled immediately as you laughed.Â
âDonât worry, I am sure the Maximoff boy will share some with you.â You patted his shoulder as you passed him, hearing a loud gasp.
âDonât you dare, Elliott!â He warned you instantly, causing your laugh to increase in volume as he followed behind.
ââ
Your thoughts were running in circles, banging against your head. It felt like a tornado inside of you.
Was it a good idea to start this battle? Undoubtedly, your parents would be furious as soon as they would see Eve at the ball.
But you could not let others control your life anymore.
What if Peter was right, on the other hand? Adding fuel to the fire that Maximoff Princess started might not have been the best move.
Your head shook as you blinked rapidly. It could not become another torturous thing for you.
Before it had a chance to consume you even more, your body jerked to the side when something bumped into you.
âOh, Lord!â You looked up with an irritated expression just to see a terrified servant. âI am so sorry, Your Highness, please, forgive me.â He ranted, looking like you were about to whip him.
Normally, you would give a small warning. However, you noticed how he was struggling to keep a baggage up in his arms.
Your brows furrowed at the sight.
Whose is this?
You tried to figure it out, but the item did not look like any of your family membersâ.
âHmpf.â The man grunted, trying to catch the baggage as it slipped out of his hands.
You quickly caught it from the bottom, putting some of its weight on you.
âThank you, Your Highness.â He uttered out, fixing the thing, and grabbing it more comfortably.Â
The man bowed as best as he could before scurrying off and leaving you confused.
It only deepened when you came up to the staircase, noticing multiple servants running around with even more luggage.
âWhat on earth?â You whispered to yourself as more people kept going up the stairs and following the trail of where the first man went.
Nobody had told you of anybody arriving at the palace. Your whole family was here, so it could not be them either.
Maybe Peter brought new goods from his recent travels.
But your question was answered when a familiar face emerged through the front doors. Your jaw immediately clicked in place when your eyes landed on her.
It got only worse when her companion joined her quickly, smiling brightly like a fool.
Your eyes rolled as your grip on the rail tightened. Whatever they were up to, you were having none of it.
With a quick step, you were going down the stairs in seconds.
âI own more than I thought.â She chuckled out to the Duke whose grin widened when her gaze went up to him.
His low laugh made you want to puke. It sounded disgusting just like him.
As your eyes landed on the luggage by the door, you were reminded that the things were hers. No doubt about this anymore.
One torture after another. You kept a groan in, not wanting to be dramatic about this inconvenience. It had to happen sooner or later.
Youâd rather it were later.Â
Well, it was too late for that.
After all, jousting would be tomorrow, then the engagement ball.
And then, the wedding ceremony.
Your end. And a new start. You could only hope with all your being that it would turn out well for you.
There was no better path at this point.
âWhat brings you here?â You asked, coming up to the woman with spread arms. âBesides delivering more misery to my life?â The question was hushed enough for only Wanda to hear.
And you were sure she did when her face turned blank before she clenched her teeth.Â
It did not last long when she squinted her eyes with a stiff smile and a tilted head as she stared at you.
âIs there an amount that will finally make you stay away?â She bit back, causing your mouth to part as your tongue slightly poked out through it. âNow, excuse me.â She added, bending down to lift a smaller luggage.
âMy dearââ Her companion said, bending down slightly to stop the woman.Â
Your eyes instantly snapped to him, sending a warning sign as you looked around to see if anyone heard him.
ââPrincess.â He quickly added, shifting uncomfortably under your hardened gaze. âLet the servants do their job.â He said louder, gaining his confidence back, before clearing his throat and buttoning a single button up.
His words instilled so much anger in you that you felt your blood boil. The cockiness, the pride, the stupid smirk on his face like he owned the place.
Not in my home.
âMind your tongue.â You seethed out to him, causing his body to stiffen as his upper lip quivered. Wandaâs eyes snapped to you with an irritated swirl in them. âThey are not your servants, they are not yours to command.â You added lowly, taking a small step forward as annoyance coursed through your veins.Â
He stared at you in silence, his head ticking as he breathed out, causing his nostrils to flare.
The corners of his lips spread in a tense grin as you watched him intensely. If he thought he could do what he wanted here, he was greatly mistaken.
âOf course.â He finally uttered out, lowering his gaze for a second. But you were not about to let it go, despite the frustration that tried to break out on his features. âYour Highness.â He added with a hint of impudence.
The staring contest lasted a little longer until Wanda loudly cleared her throat, giving you both an unhappy look.
"Are you done engaging in a size comparison?â Her comment made your jaw clench.Â
But she was right. It was not the time, nor the place to make a scene. Or to bicker with this individual.
âKeep your guest in check.â You told her, sending one last pointed look at Jarvis before turning around and walking away.
You had more important things to attend to than this childish exchange.
ââ
Your day managed to get even worse. Somehow. Thanks to a certain somebody. This time, it was your mother. She thought it would be a great idea to welcome the Princess into the Palace with a quick, friendly game of Polo.
Of course, Jarvis could not be left out while he was there, stuck to Wandaâs side like glue. His stupid smirk and poor attitude made your dislike grow very quickly in a very short time.
You may not have known the brunette girl well, but it was still hard to understand why she would want someone like him around.
But you did not have time to think about it when you swung the mallet, hitting the ball perfectly. It flew in the air, shooting ahead, and falling just right in front of Kate.
She did not wait to make a move, delivering a blow that sent the ball between the opposite teamâs poles.
âExcellent!â Peter shouted from his horse.
âGood job, sister!â You added with a wide, open-mouthed grin, sending her a short wink to which she laughed.
The only thing keeping you happy in this situation was the fact that you were winning. Seeing Jarvisâs fuming face was something you never knew you would need.
Well, you could not get enough of it. You guessed it was not often that somebody shut this man up.Â
It was delightful.
âBe aware of flies.â A comment went by you just as your future wife strutted on her horse.Â
The joyfulness instantly left your body as a blank expression took over. Raising an eyebrow, you looked at her boredly.
âIt is okay to lose sometimes.â You jabbed back, turning your horse around and matching her pace. âNo need to be jealous.â
She scoffed at your teasing tone, her eyes rolling as you smirked cockily.Â
âJealous?â Her eyebrow arched almost all the way to her hairline. âI am barely putting any effort in so you can feel better about your skills.â Her shoulders shrugged nonchalantly as she sent you an innocent smile.
A laugh-like huff escaped your mouth as you both got to the center. She lined up on her side as you made a circle around her.
âWhatever makes you feel better, Princess.â You said lowly, leaning toward her.
Her mouth twitched as you got in the position. Everyone else caught up quickly, Jarvis with a grimace on his face as his gaze landed on you.
The annoyance swirling in his eyes was boosting your ego that was becoming harder and harder to hide.
You did not get to take it in when the umpire dropped the ball in the center, starting a round. Your sister immediately swooped in, stealing the ball. Peter rushed forward, hitting the round object again, putting it closer to the opponents' poles.
"I've got it!" Pietro shouted, riding up quickly and defending his team's side by delivering a blow to the ball and sending it towards the center again.
Queen Iryna and your mother were both the closest to it, but they seemed helpless. Kate's eyes rolled as Jarvis rode up and hit the object just enough to move it in front of him for the next blow.
You were riding towards it with Wanda next to you. She was completely determined and zoned in on the ball. However, you got there just a few seconds before her, quickly swinging the mallet, and getting the object back towards the center.
Your smile only widened when you looked up just to be met with the brunetteâs glare as she turned her horse around.
She would not have a chance getting the ball back, however. Kateâs reaction was quick, sending it even farther away to Peter who hit it strongly.
The ball flew far, right in between the other teamâs poles, scoring a point for you.
âYes!â You yelled out from the back. âThere you go, Pete.â A wide grin plastered on your face as Kate high-fived your best friend.
Queen Iryna, along with your mother, seemed to be happy to be done with the game when they tiredly conversed while slowly riding up to the chairs.
âThat was splendid!â Kate said loudly, a huge smile gracing her lips as the rest of you were joining the older women.
âAnd quick.â Peter threw a blow, sending Wanda and Pietro a teasing smirk.
âAlright, Mr. Parker.â Pietro started, raising his hand as his lips pressed into a tight line. âHow about a game of chess? We will see how fast your hands are there.â The silver-haired man teased the poet, arching his eyebrow as he looked at Peter over his shoulder.
The boyâs face flushed immediately, causing him to tuck it down. He was ridiculous for it. It was obvious he liked the older Maximoff.
You had never seen him fumble like that. Pietro could do anything and Peter would be melting on the spot like a lit candle.
âUgh.â You heard a grunt from behind you, making your head turn.
It was Wanda, struggling with getting her foot out of the stirrup. Jarvis was a bit away from the Princess, so you turned your horse around and strutted closer.
âSomebody wants you to play one more.â You joked lightly, pulling a bit on the reins to position the animal better.
She only glared at you, clearly unhappy with the inconvenience that was getting in her way.
As you slid down and off the saddle, about to go help the brunette, you heard a loud thud before quick footsteps followed.
Of course.
Your face immediately turned emotionless when you saw Jarvis rushing over to the brunette woman, extending his hand, and offering help with a bright smile.
What a snake.
Because only a snake could smile like this while sending you glares and cocky smirks. Just like he did now when his eyes almost shone with that damn glint of satisfaction and pride in them.
Wanda accepted his help, putting her hand in his as he helped her down.
âI might have lost the match, but I won your hand.â He said lowly, earning a small giggle from the Princess as she grabbed her horseâs reins.
Your blood boiled at his brave words. If anybody heard him, he could lose his head. No matter how ambiguous it couldâve sounded, the consequences of it would not change.
But you knew why he said it. You knew why now. Everyone else was out of earshot. Besides you. He had been here only for a few days and you already hated his guts.
Whatever dominance he tried to establish, he would understand very quickly that you were not one to start a war with.
He could have Wanda for all you cared. You did not even want this marriage to begin with until it became the best choice for your future.
âMarriage is one step closer to your freedom.â
Your motherâs words rang in your head again. This time, however, they seemed real. Maybe she was not a complete liar. She was right about something in the end.
âWell, it is good to know at least one of you has manners.â Wanda commented, making your teeth grit as she sent you a hard look. âWe shall join the others, Queen Eleanor said she has a surprise.â Wanda informed the tall man who kept watching her with a wide, fake grin.
They both walked past you, engrossed in a conversation as Wanda giggled happily at something the Duke said.
You were doing everything in your power not to roll your eyes. But your face was fuming, undoubtedly.Â
You had manners. Better than this excuse of a man. You were on your way to help. He swooped in to save the day instead. It would be ridiculous to fight over which one of you would grab her hand.
If anything, he was childish.
You did not care about what he did back in Sokovian Port, but you would not tolerate his disrespect in your own Kingdom.
Not when it was thrown right in your face.
And your lovely future wife would not stop you from putting her lover in his place.
âElliott!â You heard your motherâs voice. âDonât you stand there like a lone wolf.â Her words sounded casual, but when you eyes met hers, you saw the pleading in them.
She had been trying her best to fix what she had broken. Itâd not been easy to talk to or be around her, but you could see how much effort she was putting into making things better.
Without a word, you gave her a short nod before guiding your horse to the others.
âI shall take my leave now.â Jarvisâs voice woke you up from the boring conversation about tea that was happening between the two Queens.
They really had nothing better to talk about. It had been going on for at least thirty minutes, discussing the perfect intensity and flavor. Sugar or no sugar. Black or fruit.
You did not understand how someone could say so much about tea. However, you were not a specialist, so it would make sense you did not know too many fascinating things about it.
Suddenly, you were jealous of the little bubble Peter and Pietro seemed to be in as they conversed with each other, not caring about others.
You could not even ask Kate for help as she was discussing dresses and archery with the Maximoff Princess.
âOh.â Wanda let out, furrowing her eyebrows and halting her conversation. âAre you not going to stay a little longer?âÂ
Her question was met with a shake of his head as his lips pulled inward in a tight smile.
âI have a few matters I need to attend to.â He explained politely with an apologetic look before moving his gaze to two older women. âIt was delightful to spend time with you, Your Majesties.â He declared with a wide grin, bowing slightly.
They both smiled stiffly, looking up at the man from their seats.
âThat is so kind of you.â Your mother uttered out. âYou are welcome to join us later.â She added before taking a sip of her drink.
He bowed again before saying his goodbyes and walking away. All the while your eyes threatened to roll as you wanted to scream at her to take it back. Youâd had enough of this moron for the day. Maybe even a whole week.
Knowing your mother, she would make you stick around for a while to make the Princess feel welcomed in the Palace.
âThatâs her home now, she needs to feel comfortable.â
Those had been her words when youâd asked why exactly a tour party was needed today. Wanda had seen the Palace before.Â
She did not need an introduction.
âWell.â Your mother said, gaining everyoneâs attention. âNow, that it's only us, I would love for you all to come with me."Â
Confused gazes watched her as she stood up from her spot. She only ushered everyone not to waste time while the surprise was waiting. Everybody got up and walked towards the Palace as you finished your cup of tea.
Whatever surprise she had planned, you had no idea what it could be. Maybe Kate was in on it, but judging by her puzzled expression earlier, the chances of it were slim.
There was nothing you could think of that would be for all of you. Especially, Wanda, Pietro, and their mother.
Unless it was only for a few of you.Â
Your eyes rolled as you got up with a sigh. If it was another attempt at putting you and the brunette closer with some absurd wedding gift, you would leave immediately.
As you walked inside, your mother was standing at the door while others slowly strutted down the hall.
She was undoubtedly waiting for you, judging by the fact that she started walking only when you reached her side.
âWhat is it this time?â You asked her boredly. âAnother one of your great plans?â A hint of bitterness was laced in your tone as you added.
She visibly bit her tongue before swallowing and looking ahead.
âNo.â She replied calmly, moving her gaze to you. âBut I have planned it for a while.â Your eyebrow raised at her words.
The last time she had planned something for a while had been your marriage to Wanda. Hopefully, this time it was something better.
You could not handle any more of her big surprises.Â
âThat man.â She said out of nowhere as you walked in silence. âHeâsâinteresting.â She paused for a second as she looked for a word.
âWho?â You asked, furrowing your eyebrows as your hands folded behind your back. âJarvis?â
âYes.â She replied, staying silent for a longer while as she stared ahead.
You only glanced at the floor, wondering where she was trying to go with this. She had not spoken about him ever since he had shown up.
In fact, she had seemed pretty welcoming to somebody who was not even on the guest list. But then, she always kept up a certain act around nobility.Â
Maybe if you hadnât avoided her since your last argument, you would know more about her thoughts nowâjust like you had always known before.
âI do not believe this Palace is the right place for him.â She said lowly, turning her head to you with that look in her eyes.
The one that would always tell you she knew you felt the same way as her.
It ticked you off. But it also made a feeling of familiarity and comfort wash over you at how well you knew each other in the end.
You wanted to be mad at her. At least a bit longer.
âWhy?â You opted for a short question, focusing your eyes on everyone who walked a short distance ahead of you.
âHeâsââ She trailed off, roaming her eyes on the walls decorated with paintings of your ancestors. âNot very delightful.â You snorted at her teasing tone as she lightly mocked Jarvisâs words from earlier.
âNot particularly, no.â Your agreement made her mouth curl into a small smile as you grinned to yourself.
It was not hard to guess that she was trying to get back on your good side. You knew from Kate how your lack of engagement had taken a toll on the Queen.
Maybe she did love you for you. Maybe she did want the best for you. But right now, it did not feel like that to you. And you were allowed to be angry with her for lying.
As you were passing one of the hallways, you caught a glimpse of Eve and her father emerging from the Kingâs meeting room.
âExcuse me for a moment, Mother.â You said, completely focused on the girl standing far away from you as you went around the Queen.
Her gaze followed yours before it landed on the brunette. âOh.â She let out silently, inhaling slowly through her nose. You mentally braced yourself for a scolding comment that would come within a second. âJoin us in the right wing whenever you are done.â She informed you calmly, ending her sentence with a smile before catching up with the others.
You were shocked. There was no snarky remark. No bitter comment. No glares or disapproving looks.
But there was no time to think about it. You wanted to talk to Eve. As much as you could. Whenever and wherever you could.

Ouu could you do a daniela x gp! reader where although daniela is in a relationship her and the reader have this chemistry thats both extremely romantic and sexual and in the end they get together
Summary: Your best friend has a boyfriend, but everyone keeps talking about how great of a pair you two make. Being dance partners only made it worse. Was it only dumb theories or will you have to catch up with your feelings?
This was weird.
No.
Awkward.Â
And you could not exactly pinpoint why. Nothing was out of the ordinary, nothing really changed.
Besides his behavior.
Your best friendâs boyfriend.
Not that everything always had been amazing between you two. Youâd had a hard time forming any kind of friendship with him from the beginning.
He seemed to be against it without admitting it in any way. But you could see it in acting like you were a ghost sometimes, in ignoring whatever you had to say, in cutting you off, and trying to exclude you from any possible plans that Daniela had.
So, yeah. You were not close by any means. But it was never bad like this. Like today.
Ever since youâd gotten to the restaurant, things had been different. Not much different. But there was tension.
A lot of it.
It seemed like the other two girls could feel none of it, though.
Your eyes kept jumping up and down to your food as you felt the uneasy glances burning your face. You hadnât said anything becauseâbesides thisâeverything was going well.
Manon was sitting next to you, smiling and talking to Daniela, who was sitting in front of you.
The girls had thought it would have been such a great idea to do a âdouble dateâ as they had joked about it. Of course, it was not really that. As much as Daniela and Jonah were a couple, you and Manon were only friends.
Neither she, nor you saw the other in a romantic way. But it was easier to plan lunch for the four of you than with anyone else. As roommatesâminus Jonahâyou knew about your schedules well enough to figure something out on days off.
You were happy they could have fun and relax after a month of tireless working. However, you would be happier if a certain boy with a constant grumpy face paid attention to anything else than tensing his jaw every time he looked at you.
For example, his girlfriend.
âDonât even tell me.â Daniela groaned out, her eyes rolling as she leaned forward. âThe season is starting and Iâm already exhausted.â
You could not even begin to comprehend what they were talking about as all you could focus on was the awkwardness that surrounded you. Only you, apparently.
âUgh, I know.â Manon said, her eyes going wide as she grimaced, finishing up chewing on her food. âI thought my legs would set themselves on fire last rehearsal.â
If the situation stayed like that, somebody could try to set you on fire soon enough. You hoped it all was in your head only.
The girls kept talking as you tried to avoid the tension by drinking your soda and looking to the opposite side.
âRight, babe?â You heard the Latina.
Your head turned back to the conversation, hoping that whatever was happening would ease up now that your best friend addressed the boy.
Your brows scrunched in slight surprise when, instead, Daniela was looking at you with a smile. Well, shit, you had no answer. Right what? You did not listen to a word they said.
âUhââ You did not know what she was referring to and the pet name she had for you was not helping your current situation.
Manon immediately glanced at you as the corner of her mouth tugged into a smirk before she composed herself.
Of course, she would be happy about you being in trouble.
âWere you in the clouds?â Daniela teased you, her fingers falling on your hand as she poked it lightly with her nail.
Normally, you would not mind. It was nothing unusual for her to doâthe same for calling you âbabeââbut Jonahâs burning gaze moved to where your hands met.
His lips seemed to roll in, then press tightly.
Before anyone could say anything, a waitress came over, smiling at everybody.
âCan I get you guys anything else?â Everyone thanked her as Danielaâs hand was now sprawled on top of yours.
âCould we get a check, please?â The Latina said, looking up at the girl while mindlessly dragging her nails on your skin.
It felt soothing, niceâcomfortable. Until, it did not. Jonahâs gaze went from the table to you, anger flickering in his eyes before he looked away.
It left you with anxiety running through your body. Maybe, you should pull your hand away? Then what? Daniela would probably be confused, maybe ask questions that you did not necessarily have answers to.
Keeping it like that was also not a great solution. Whatever was bothering Jonah included you in it.
Unfortunately.
Your mind was getting crowded, thoughts flooding it while Daniela was sorting out stuff with the waitress, asking for one check only.
Someone always paid the entire thing. You rotated every time you went out. It was easier and fine with everyone involved.
âThank you.â Daniela said, putting her card away and taking the receipt.
âYouâre welcome, I hope you enjoyed the food.â The waitress smiled. Just as she was about to walk away, something made her stop and lean down between you and Daniela. âYouâre a very cute couple.â
The words stunned you, eyes widening, mouth parting in shock. Manon choked on her spit, covering her mouth with her hand while, across from you, Daniela did not seem to be surprised by the comment.Â
She kept her composure, her lips were parted as she stared at the girl with a slightly puzzled smile.
It was not the first time someone said it to you and her. However, today, you felt in danger. You did not want to add any more things for Jonah to be grumpy about with you.
You could already feel his eyes on you again. And Manonâs. You did not have to look at her to know she was having funâshe always did.
Your hand slid from under the Latinaâs, pretending to fix your shirt as you sat awkwardly.
Your best friendâs gaze moved to you, there was something in it that you could not figure out before she blinked it away.
âWeâre not together.â You said finally, seeing how Daniela could not get a word out.
She stared at you blankly for a while longer before smiling up at the girl.
âYeah, this is my boyfriend, actually.â She chuckled lightly, leaning back and gesturing to the boy next to her.
The waitressâs smile faltered slowly upon realizing her mistake as she stared at Jonah.
Bummer.Â
She probably felt mortified.
You felt bad for her.
But you also felt bad for yourself.
âOh.â She let out shortly, her eyes going back to you and Daniela like she was searching for somethingâgiving Manon only more reasons to laugh. âWell, I hope you have a good day, guys, come back anytime.â She clasped her hands before smiling and quickly walking away.
You were scared to look at Daniela and her boyfriend nowâfor different reason, but also pretty much the same one.
You could basically feel how annoyance was radiating off of him from across the table. Not that you cared a lot. You did not really like him. He was weird, kind of stuck up, and you believed he treated Daniela poorly.
She deserved better. She deserved the best in your eyes. And he was not giving it to her.
But you were willing to be on good termsâalso purely for her.
âThatâs awkward.â Manon mumbled quietly to you while everyone started getting up.
Your eyebrow raised at her knowingly before you looked to Daniela. Her eyes were already on you, an unreadable expression on her face, before she pushed her tongue to her upper lip and clicked it.
Uh-oh.
She only did that when she was mad. Irritated. Frustrated. Anything from the above. You could come up with more, but there was not time to dwell on it when she started getting up.
âTime to get everything settled on the couch.â Manon said semi-excitedly, patting her stomach and attempting to lighten up the mood between the rest.
Well, at least, you were not alone in this terrible atmosphere anymore.
âYeah, Iâm exhausted from eating all this.â Daniela responded with a small chuckle, the chair scraping against the floor as she pushed it. âAre you coming with us?â She asked, looking at her boyfriend.
You tried to act normal and glance at him for the answer, but as soon as your eyes met, the anger shone in them before his jaw clenched.
No eye contact for today.Â
Noted.
âNo, I have some work to do.â He said in a stiff tone.
Clearly an excuse. But you were happy about it. You would have to come up with one if he decided to join.
âOh.â Daniela let out, almost indifferently, âIâll text you later then.â Grabbing her purse, she said a quick goodbye before walking around the table. âLetâs go.âÂ
She gestured to the door, raising her eyebrows at you both for a split second, her legs already taking her out of the place as Jonah stayed behindâon his own accord as it seemedâfor a bit longer.
You could only hope everything would be fine later because you did not know why it was not fine in the first place.
Not knowing and not being able to fix it was killing you. You butted heads enough as it was, you did not need more problems with him.
âââ
A wave of relief hit you when the door to the apartment closed. You were free and safe now. Kind of.
The Latina had questioned you on your weird behavior at the restaurant. She had talked about the end part mostly, about your fidgeting and how you had seemed to be allergic to her touch today.
But you had dismissed it in the easiest way possible, which was exhaustion. She hadnât believed it fully, but she hadnât kept the interrogation going, so itâd worked.
âWhat are we feeling like?â Daniela asked, rounding the corner while turning to face you and Manon.
Even though you had just eaten lunch, you were still hungry for a snackâor two. Daniela and Manon had thought you were crazy, but as youâd gotten closer to the apartment, theyâd decided to get something as well.
Your meal had been pretty small anyway. The career you had and how much energy you needed for it, you had to eat more and work out to stay in shape.
Well, maybe, you did not have to. But you wanted to. Your body was muscular, but not overly. It helped you with certain moves as a dancer.Â
Not that you needed a lot of strength to lead, pick, and hold Daniela. She was your roommate, best friend, and also your dance partner.
You had been dancing together since middle school. That was how you had met. Now, as adults, you took part in bigger competitions.
It meant that you spent a lot of time together. And you liked it. You loved being around your best friend. Sometimes, people just made it a little bitâweird.
âUh.â Manonâs lips spread as her teeth pressed together, looking at you for help.
One thing Daniela did not like was indecisiveness. If she asked you a question, she wanted an answer. Especially, about things like this.
You could only stare back at Manon with wide eyes, mind blanking, as you had no idea what you wanted.
A sigh interrupted your little nonverbal battle.
âOkay, you figure it out then, Iâm going to get my charger.â Her lips pursed as she raised her arms before walking out.
Well, now, you had just so much time to find something suitable. Something good.
Somethingâ
âSo, whatâs the deal?â Manon asked out of nowhere, coming up to a cupboard and instantly grabbing a pack of crackers.Â
âHuh?â You could not comprehend the question.
âOh, come on, girl.â She jumped on the counter, popping the snack in her mouth. âYou were weird the whole time at the restaurant.â
Your eyes squinted at the girl, going to the crackers in her hand before looking back up to her face.
âWhat is this?â The situation was getting skeptical. âDid you do this to have her leave?â
âDuh.â She replied, widening her eyes for a second. âI needed the space to ask what I want to.âÂ
Smart.Â
She had always been.
It was not always good for you.
You couldâve predicted this. But then, you had no idea Manon had noticed anything out of the ordinary during lunch.
âDonât avoid, you gotta tell me.â She prompted again.
Her legs were dangling as you struggled to gather your thoughts.
âTell you what?â
âWhy you were weird.â Her brow raised at you with a scrunched face, like it was obvious.
âI was not.â
âYou were.â
âNo.â
âYes.â She would not let this go.
She was too stubbornâfor your own good.
It could be hard to dodge her, her persistence was impeccable.
âSo?â Her urging continued, her head leaning in closer to you as if she wanted to make sure you saw her.
âSo nothing, Iâm tired.â If you did not know what to do, you blamed it on not having the energy.
Or not being in the mood.
One of the two always worked.
âUh huh.â She let out, unconvinced. âTired of Jonah?â Your body went stiff as you rummaged through the cupboards in an attempt to find something before Danielaâs return. âOh.â Manonâs lips were already curling into a smirk when you glanced over your shoulder. âI hit the jackpot.â
Her smile did not falter as she put another cracker in her mouth. Her eyes watched you with a newfound spirit.Â
âYou can get hit in the head if you want.â You retaliated. âI have nothing against him.â
âErrrn.â She sounded loudly. âLies, try again.â Her arms moved back as she leaned on them, crossing her ankles.
There was no way out. You needed Daniela to come back. Where the hell was she? Usually, you had twenty seconds to make a choice before she would run in and give you a look.
âUgh.â Your groan rumbled in your throat. âIf he has a problem, itâs his to solve.â
âOoOooO.â Her special sounds were getting out of hand now. âSo, there is oneââ
âThere is what?â Your saving grace. She finally came back to rescue you.Â
Her question made Manonâs eyes jump to the kitchen entrance before giving you a look like it was not the end.
Daniela was looking between you two, her face held a small smile as she waited for some kind of answer.
You were scared of what the Swiss girl could do now.
âY/n has a lover.â Manon said after a beat of silence.
You choked on your spit, throwing yourself into a coughing fit from this unexpectedâand death-worthyâcomment.
âWhat?â Daniela breathed out, a light chuckle escaped her lips, but she did not look amused.
More like confused. Maybe hurt?
âSheâs joking.â You said confidently, giving Manon a stern look.
She only shrugged her shoulders while Daniela looked at her puzzled before moving her gaze to you.
Her eyes were unsureâand searching. She seemed hurt, but did not want to show it. Probably, in case there was nothing to be hurt about.
Because why would you not tell her if you had someone? You would right away.
âI am, I am.â Manon finally laughed out, waving her hand before jumping off the counter. âOr am I?â Her expression turned mysterious as she stared at you.
This girl played way too much.
âI donât have anyone and you know it.âÂ
Her eyebrows raised, then a deep exhale followed. âYeah, I do.â She sent you a sweet smile before grabbing her crackers and going to the living room. âLetâs get that movie started.â
Your eyes rolled as you sent Daniela a warm smile. âSheâs crazy.â You said, shaking your head and turning back to the cabinet.
A pack of your favorite sour worms was there, you grabbed it and some popped Skittles for Daniela.
They were her favorite.
You turned around to follow Manon, she was just as impatient as the Latina, calling from the living room to hurry up.
You were stopped by fingers lacing around your hand as you passed Daniela.
Your head moved to face the girl with a confused expression. It softened right away when you saw the uncertainty and uneasiness painting her features.
âYou would tell me, right?â Her voice was small as she spoke. Your hand felt warm as she held onto it like her life depended on it.
Your lips spread into a warm smile. âOf course, I would.â Your body turned to her fully after putting the candy on the island, so you could rub her arms. âShe was just joking, you would be the first one to know.â
She nodded, her features lighting up a bit. Your hands went to her head before you leaned down and planted a kiss on top of it.
âNow, letâs go before she rips our heads off.â The words made her laugh lightly before hitting you on your arm. âOw!â You looked offended, but the Latina was already stepping away with a mischevious smirk playing on her lips. âWhat was that for?â
âIn case.âÂ
Your brows pulled together as you stared at her.Â
âIn case what?âÂ
She ignored the question, her hand grabbing the Skittles as she kept walking to the living room.
âIn case what?!â You yelled out again as she disappeared behind the wall.
There was no answer and there would not be one. Of course. You groaned to yourself, looking up at the ceiling for a split second.
Taking the bag of your candy in a rather harsh way, you made your way to the girls.
After this treatment, you would not be helping with picking the movie.
âââ
âBack straight.â The order was stated firmly. âGood.âÂ
You were relieved it was good. There were so many things you had to be doingâeven more that were running through your headâthat you were getting lost.
Fortunately, not too much. You were still doing a great job at dancing. You were still killing every step, still led Daniela smoothly, still finished every move perfectly.
Still did your part wonderfully.
And somehow, you were getting into your head.
The Latina seemed to have a lot of fire in her today. She was very touchyânothing unusual. The type of dance you did required a lot of physicality. A lotof it.
But she seemed to be making sure that this essential part was met for one hundred percent.
And another hundred as a backup.
Her eyes were unrelenting, staring at you so intensely that they could carve a hole in your head.
You had a very short break when you held her hand and she moved away a few steps, but it quickly went back to the previous position. Which was her hands all over you.
âGreat! Splendid!â The coach was screaming in happiness.
Danielaâs eyes were hard to look into when an unfamiliar emotion took over them. Her fingers were sneakily wandering around your arms and chest.
You needed to remind yourself that it was a rehearsal. Nothing else. Your dance rehearsal. Because you were a dancer. So, you were dancing with your dancing partner.
She slowly started lowering, her touch spreading down more and more, leaving heat behind. Her teeth showed when she smirked, tongue poking out as she swiped her upper lipâright at your croch.
And for the first time in your lifeâin your friendshipâyour mind went there.
You twirled her quickly, hoping things would ease up a bit.
You should know they wouldn't. You knew the dance. You were very aware how it would go.
Her bum was pushed out now while your hand tangled in her hair. She stood up slowly, seductively, her back nudging your frontâalmost sending you into a heart attackâbefore she straightened to her full height, then bending her knees.
âYes! Perfecto! Keep going, Daniela!â Your coach was ecstatic, shouting praises and squealing like a schoolgirl.
Oh, Lord.
You could only pray to be spared. Something was very wrong today.
Maybe, it was the situation with Jonah from last week. He had become even more annoying than before and you started being self-conscious about your gestures and closeness with Daniela.
As your hands landed on her hips, she pressed herself to you. The actions turned sexual very quickly as there was no space in between. Not even a little bit. Her body was flush against yours as you both moved your backsides in a circular motion.Â
You were losing your mind. And you had no idea why. All of this was becoming weird. It was making you nervousâanxious.
This was not good for you. Or your friend. Whichever you wanted to think of.
Eventually, she made the last turn, her leg going up to your side as you grabbed it firmly.
Your heavy breaths met, mouths parted as your faces were mere inches away.
Her hooded eyes were full of emotions you could not name. Still, you were unable to stop looking as she held your gaze.
âAmazing! Wonderful!â Your coach broke you apart as she yelled, clapping like a maniac.Â
You let go of Danielaâs leg before you both turned to the woman. There was no need for stepping away, it would not work, Daniela was already looping her arm over yours.
You accepted the water bottle that your coach handed to you, unscrewing the cap, and putting it to your lips.
âI loved every second of it.â The older woman said, completely enamored with your pair. âThe connection, the smoothnessââ She listed, looking up with shining eyes. âThe sexual tensionââ You choked on the water at the words, coughing profusely.
âAre you okay?â Danielaâs eyebrows pulled together, her concerned but baffled face looking at you as her hand went to your shoulder.
âYeahâYup.â You confirmed with tears in your eyes. The Latina and your teacher stared at you unconvinced. But you straightened your posture with one last cough before smiling. âAll is good.â You said again, gazing down at Daniela. âReally.â
Her hand rubbed your shoulder before sliding down your back and looping over your arm again.
âExactly what I was talking about!â The teacher exclaimed. âItâs so natural between you two.â You wanted the ground to swallow you. Why did everyone always have to say this? âThe romance, the tension, the sexual desire.â The what, excuse you? âUndeniable and unbeatable.â
This was exactly the type of comments that made everything weird. Your body always tensed whenever someone spoke like that about you and Daniela.
You were just best friends.
The Latina, on the other hand, did not seem too bothered by itâjudging by the smile she had.
Maybe, she was just happy about the praise? She liked knowing she did a great job. Who wouldnât? You probably were being dramatic.
âThank you, Ms. Ferrera.â The shorter girl said. âWe always strive to give the best performance.â Her shining eyes looked up at you, staring into your irises with a proud look.
âI know, you are a great pair.â The older woman said. âI will let you go for today, girls, there is nothing I can complain about.â She added, taking out a notepad. âDonât forget we have an extra session on Saturday, we need to perfect the next choreography.â
âWe wonât, we will be here ten oâclock sharp.â Daniela said, but Ms. Ferrera moved her attention to you.
âTen sharp.â You confirmed with a smile.
She nodded satisfied, dismissing you and Daniela.
You did not waste time to get your stuff, throwing the bag over your shoulder before handing a hat to your best friend.
âThanks.â She said, grinning.
Taking hold of her bag, you hung it over your head and started walking out. After this whole thing, you would have to be in the same car for twenty minutes.Â
Daniela was the one who always drove you to rehearsals and back home. You loved car rides with her. You loved her company.
But the practice, the comments, and her weirdly-behaving boyfriend were in the back of your head, screaming at you to get away.
It was nothing new. The choreography was not that much different from your previous ones. You had danced it a million times before. Then, why did it feel different this time?
âAre you okay?â The girl snapped you out of your thoughts.
âHuh?â You stared at with gaping eyes. âOh, yeah, yeah.â You blinked quickly, looking away.
âAre you sure? Because you looked like you saw a ghost back there.â Her chuckle was light, probably hoping to ease up the atmosphere and get you to talk to her.
But you could not do that. Not about this. Not when you had no idea what was going on.
âYeah, I justââ You paused, your lips pursing in thought. A pang of guilt made itself known in your chest. You did not want to lie to her.
But you did not know what to say. How to start. What the problem was. There was no information available to youâtherefore, you could not give it to her.
âItâs okay.â Your back stiffened for a second when her hand landed on it. Her nails scratched it soothingly through your shirt, making you relax almost instantly. âJust take a breath and we can talk when youâre ready, yeah?â
You smiled appreciatively. She was an angel sent to you.Â
âYeah.â
Her hand slid into yours, fingers lacing, as her lips spread into a bright grin.
You could not let people get into your head. She was your everything and you would not let others have you lose it.
Not your best friend.
âââ
Tonight, it would be your last day on Earth. Why? Well, somebody, had a great idea to have a movie night. With Jonah.Â
You would think it was Daniela. No. It was Manon.
Of all people, your good friend thought it would be amazing if all of you could gather together and watch something nice.Â
Bonding time, as she called it.
When she shared it with you, it was impossible to stop yourself from grimacing and groaning. Which was not the best thing to do since Daniela was next to you.
She did not give much of a reaction to it, but you assumed she could not be happy about your little frustration when it came to her boyfriend.
Well, your problem was that he had a problem, which led to an even bigger problem since you did not like him in the first place.
At least, Megan would be there too. She was mostly Manonâs friend, but you hung out with her quite a lot as well.Â
She was fun and got along with you. It gave you one more person to make you feel comfortable tonight.
âDing, ding.â Speaking of the devil, here she was already. âHow are you guys doing?â She did not waste time hugging Daniela before coming up to you and giving you a tight embrace. âDid you get even taller or what?â She joked, looking you up and down.
âMaybe you just shrunk.â You bit back, chuckling at her.
âUh, offensive.â She said, pointing at you while looking at the girls. âBut I still love you, so itâs fine.â She added, swatting you on the chest.
Danielaâs laughter was louder than necessary as she walked up to the cabinet next to you.Â
âItâs impossible to hate her.â Your best friend declared in a sweet tone.
âUgh, I know, thatâs the problem.â Megan responded, repeatedly poking your arm. âOh, you have chicken rice!â Her face lit up like a thousand lights as she ran up to the glass cookware. âThis is my favorite place on Earth.âÂ
âWe know.â Manon stated, leaning against the archway as her amused eyes watched the Chinese girl.
âWe have popcorn too.â Daniela stated, putting the box on the counter before standing in front of you.
Her hands instinctively reached for yours before she draped your arms over her shoulders. You leaned forward to hug her from behind as she moved back against your chest.
âI love you even more than this one.â Megan declared, pointing at Daniela before moving her finger to you.
âWow, you move on fast.â A faux hurt was laced in your voice.
âGotta keep the girl busy to keep the girl, babe.â Megan exclaimed without stuttering.
Your jaw dropped at the statement as she smirked triumphantly to herself. Manon, on the other hand, tried to stifle a laugh behind her hand.
You were not really offended. She adored you. Her love was just expressed differently than you were used to.
âDonât worry, I love you the most.â Daniela said, moving her head to the side and tilting it up to get as good of a look at you as possible in her position.
This was what you were used to. Your eyes skimmed down to hers, a grin automatically spreading on your lips.
âThank you, at least you stay by my side.â You said loudly enough for the other two to hear. âI love you too.â You reciprocated, tightening your arms around her neck in a hug.
âUgh, was Cupid here today or what?â Manon said, repulsed by all expressions of love and adoration.
You knew she just felt left out. The exaggerated eyeroll let you know about it.
âYou are loved too, you tiny baby.â Your words were followed by squealing Megan, who ran up to Manon and gave her a big hug.
A doorbell went off, causing everyoneâs eyebrows to pull together in confusion.
âOh, Jonah.â Daniela said, throwing her arm in the air in realization.Â
She did not make a move to go and let him in, however. She just stayed in your embrace that she had put herself in earlier.
Manonâs eyebrow arched at the Latina.
âWould you like me to go?â
âIf you donât mind.â Your best friend smiled before shrugging, like she did not care too much about how he would get in.
âIâll go.â You offered, trying to get out from behind Daniela.
âUhââ She let out a sound, her face turning grumpy as she felt the lack of your warmth. âRude.â
Chuckling at her comment, you went to the door before opening it. Jonahâs grin quickly changed into a thin line when his eyes fell on you.
âOh.â He mumbled disappointed, his face grimacing slightly. âWhereâs Daniela?â
No greeting, no anything. How polite. He just kept adding to the list.
âHello to you too.â You responded flatly. âSheâs in the kitchen with the rest.â You informed him, opening the door fully, and gesturing for him to come in.
He did not say a word, but his face spoke enough. You could see how irritated he was already.
A great start to this disastrous night. You could not wait for more.
âUm, can you take your shoes off?â You asked as you saw how comfortably he was walking way too far in his dirty footwear.
He looked at you with annoyance and bafflement. âItâs normal to leave them on at home.â
âMaybe at yours.â You stood straighter. âWe actually like it clean here.â
His jaw clenched at your insinuation of him being dirty. Nonetheless, he took them off before sending you a glare and walking away.
He was a real asshole. It was so exhausting to be around him.
You followed him to join the rest after making sure the door was locked. The girls had already moved to the living room, Jonah exchanging quick hellos with everyone before coming to Daniela and kissing her cheek.
Manonâs eyes found you as soon as you entered, her eyebrow raising in question upon seeing your annoyed expression.
âDonât even ask.â You mouthed to the girl.Â
You took a seat next to her, leaving her in the middle as Daniela sat on her other side. Jonah took the single armchair just as Megan had done on your side.
âA little attitude?â Manon whispered while leaning to you, her eyes staying on the screen.
âEnough to piss off a saint.â You replied, grabbing some popcorn from her bowl.
She snickered quietly, hitting you on the arm. Your funny, little exchange gathered some attention as the Latina leaned over the girl to look at you.
âWhatâs funny?â She asked, grinning.
âNothing.â You and Manon said quickly at the same time.
That would not help with making it seem like it was nothing.
Daniela already looked at you with a raised eyebrow, which you decided to ignore and focus on the TV.
âAre we starting or what?â You asked, hoping to avoid a possible altercation.
The Swiss girl rushed to get the remote before playing the movie you all had picked earlier.
It seemed like the end, but it wasnât. You felt a pair of eyes on you for a while longer before Daniela finally settled.
âââ
Sometime during the last hour, Megan ended up on the floor in front of you while Manon scooted over to the corner of the couch, and Daniela moved to the middleânext to you.
Jonah stayed in the same spot, staring at the TV before his phone became more interesting.
You did not find it too fascinating, but it had been chosen mostly by Danielaâwho was pretty excited about itâso you wanted to make sure not to miss anything.
The atmosphere loosened up quite a bit as well. You almost forgot that the boy was here. The only time you were rudely reminded was when he excused himself to the bathroom.
The best five minutes of your life.
Your hand reached to the side, a plastic bag rustled, but nothing was in it. Looking down, you were met with a heartbreaking discovery that you ran out of your candy.
âHere you go.â Megan whispered from the floor, tilting her head up while offering you her cookie dough bites.
âThanks.â You grabbed a few, popping them in your mouth as you leaned back.
Focusing on the movie again, you spread your arm on the top of the couch. Daniela reached for some of Meganâs candy as well before moving back to her spot.
However, this time, she leaned into you, settling against your chest. Your mouth automatically moved down to plant a kiss at the crown of her head, causing the girl to wiggle in even more.
Her arm flopped down along your outer thigh with her fingers scratching lightly on your knee.
It was comfortable, niceânormal. That was how you always acted. How your friendship was.
Well, when you saw Jonahâs burning gaze, you instantly became self-conscious. Your body tensed at the anger in his gaze, alarming Daniela as her scrunched eyes found you a second later.
As best as they could from right under your chin.
âYou okay?â She whispered against your jaw.
âMhm.â You replied shortly with a stiff smile.
You were not. Because of her boyfriend. Which was funny enough. But not funny ha ha. More like, funny what the fuck.
You felt her stare on you before it turned back to the TV. You tried to put your attention on it as well, but it was impossible with the heavy sighs that Jonah was making.
He glanced at his phone, jaw clenching, before he stood up and started walking behind the couch.
âI have to go, my mom needs me.â He said shortly to Daniela who barely lifted her head.
âOkay, just let me know when you get back home.â She offered a smile, but the boy only nodded before walking to the door.
Manonâs glances were not as subtle as she thought. Megan seemed to be oblivious to the tension that had appeared in the room a few minutes ago.
It probably was better like that.
When the door clicked, your eyes wandered to the Swiss girl, expecting a comment any time now.
âYour boyfriend seemed pretty grumpy.â There it was. She waited longer than you predicted.
âHeâll be fine.â Daniela waved it off, pulling the corner of her mouth.
Even you knew he wouldnât. His pride never recovered quicklyâand you guessed that was what got hurt tonight.
âWait.â Megan finally woke up, trying to understand the situation. âBoyfriend?â The confusion laced her tone as she scrunched her face. âI thought you two wereââ Her finger pointed towards you and Daniela, but she stopped talking when Manon shot her a look.
âWere what?â The Latina asked, just as confused as the Chinese girl.Â
âWereââ Megan struggled to find a continuation of her statement while staring at Manon who was screaming at the girl with her eyes. âWere inviting only friends.â She dragged out in a higher pitch, her voice getting tense.
Manonâs shouldersâand faceâseemed to relax at that.
âOh, well.â She chuckled lightly. âI thought you knew.â She patted Meganâs shoulder. âNow, you do.â
The girl laughed anxiously, taking one last glance at Manon to make sure all was good.
Your eyes, however, stayed on Manon. Something was not good and you wanted to find out. And something was telling you, your dear friend had answers to your questions.
âââ
And, oh, boy, did she have answers. She was ecstatic to talk. That should have been your first warning sign.
But you ignored it.
The way she included you the whole time while talking about Jonah and Daniela, should have been your second warning.
But you ignored it too.
Finally, when you wanted to ignore her, there was no way out. You were forced to sit through the entire thirty minutes of her talking about how stupid and blind you had been.
Allegedly.
Another thirty minutes of how oblivious you were to the fact that your connection with Daniela was more than you assumed.
Allegedly.
Then, something that had been nagging you since the conversation a week ago.
Something that she had you sit through for another thirty minutesânot caring that you blanked out for half of it if not moreâwhile saying how you were a âuseless lesbianâ.
Allegedly.
You did not gather enough courage to speak to her for a few weeks after the movie night.
Now, you regretted you ever did it.
Allegedly, you were in love with your best friend.
Realistically, however, you were still in love with your best friend.
You were in love with her.
In love.
With her.
Daniela.
Your best friend.
What the actual heck?
How did that happen?
When did that happen?
Oh, Manon would, undoubtedly, tell you the exact year, month, day, and hour. Probably place as well, and what you had for breakfast that morning.
That was nothing hard to find out if you wished so.
It was hard to deal with this information. Even harder, with the realization that it was true.
And the worst of all, that Manon was right.
How could you have proved her right? All the teasing, the comments. She was messing with you this whole time. To make you realize.
Apparently, you were too dense for it and needed a direct approach.
Well, you got it. Now, you had trouble functioning.
To make everything worse, Daniela broke up with Jonah a few days after the movie night. You were happy inside, but you needed to be there for her.
As much as she insisted the break-up did not cause her to feel any type of way, you made sure that she was okay.
At least, you tried. She did not seem to want people around. Or maybe just you. Her behavior changed slightly.Â
Her morning greeting in the form of a hug was gone. She only waved with a smile now. Her eyes never quite reached yours anymore, always looking to the side or at the floor.
She barely addressed you during outings, game nights. She talked to you normally, but it felt off at times.
Her touchiness disappeared almost entirely, she did not search for your arms to drape around her, her hands stayed away from your stomach and shoulders.Â
She stopped tangling her fingers with yours when walking.
Everything that was her was gone.
You felt like an unwanted roommate.
But you had to push the emotions aside. She had been going through the break-up. She just needed space. You had to tell yourself that all would be fine and back to normal soon enough.
But did you want it to be normal?
To go back exactly to what you had?
Your thoughts were spiraling, just wanting to have your best friend backâbut something in you was pushing for more.
âHey.â Danielaâs voice snapped you out of your thoughts. âWhat are you doing?â She looked at you with a grin.
What were you doing?
Oh, just having a little crisis. Over her.
Obviously, that was a no-no. You could not just tell her that.
The distance was instantly created. No usual kiss on the cheek, no rubbing on your shoulders.
âThinking.âÂ
âOh, thatâs new.â She stated, her teasing tone followed by a smirk.
âRude.â
Her laughter boomed in the kitchen, causing you to crack a smile.
âDo you want to go for ice cream?â
Your brows furrowed. It was the first time in a few weeks that she wanted to go somewhere just the two of you.
âUhââ Your hesitation made her head turn to you with cautious.
âWe donât have to if you canâtââ
âNo, we can go.â You quickly cut her off, grinning.
Her eyes searched your face for something as she bit her bottom lip. She was anxious, you could tell by the way she was fidgeting.
Finally, she stepped forward, covering your hand with hers as her thumb rubbed it.
âI know Iâve been weird since the break-up.â She said, making your eyes jump away. âI justââ Her eyes darted around the kitchen as she chewed on her lip. âI did a lot of thinking before calling it quits, but I donât think I realized how much more I would have to do after.â
So, she was not okay. Despite trying to seem fine, you knew she needed comfort. You knew nobody could be just fine after splitting with someone.
âYou always try to act strong, but itâs not easy to just tell someoneââ
Her eyes shone at you with confusion as her head tilted.
âWait, no.â She cut you off, blinking rapidly as she spread her arms a bit. âI donât feel any type of way because of breaking up with him.â She stated. âI knew it would not go anywhere.â
Her confident statement caused you to be puzzled now.
âButââ Then what was this whole thing about? It did not make any sense. âThen, what thinking made you be soâdifferent?â
Her mouth parted as she took in a breath, shoulders rising before dropping slowly.
âAbout what I really wanted.â She said quieter, glancing at you hesitantly.
She was being dodgy. You saw it all over her face. There was something she was not telling you.
But could you be upset about it? You had a secret too, apparently.
âSo, you broke up with him because of it?â
Her head nodded slowly as she played with your fingers.
âHe wasnât what I wanted.â
You were proud of her for making that choice on her own accord. And choosing herself. You were happy she did not drown in sorrow too.
But it did not make sense to you.
âWhat do you want then?â Your other hand landed on top of hers.
She needed comfort, you wanted to soothe her nerves that threatened to break out. Whatever it was, it made her emotions intensify.
Her eyes looked into yours, staring deeply as she contemplated.
This beat of silence was dangerous for you. You were getting lost in her. Lost in the hazel irises that held so much love for you.
Fuck, you would kick Manonâs ass for saying everything. You could not deal with it now.
âSomeone that is not him.â She finally whispered, not breaking eye contact.
You did not understand the meaning of her words, scrunching your eyes a bit as your thumb stopped.
Well, you knew that much. But you thought she figured out what kind of things she looked for in someone.
Not that you wanted it for yourself. You just wanted to look out for her.Â
âItâs nothing Iâm upset about anyway.â She said, stepping away and clearing her throat. âI knew it wasnât that from the start.â She shrugged. âIt was only a distraction, so I wouldnât have to admit to myself thatââ She paused, looking down. âNevermind.â
âNo, tell me.â You encouraged her, moving slightly in your seat. She already did not tell you much about the break-up. You wanted to be there for her. You wanted to be supportive and helpful.Â
This was the first time in weeks she had opened up about the whole situation.
âI will.â She nodded confidently. âBut later, weâre going for ice cream now.â With one last smile, she grabbed her phone before catching your hand and pulling you off the chair. âYouâre paying.â She stated loudly.
âOf course.â Your eyes rolled, but a grin spread on your mouth at her careless giggle.
âââ
âOh, my God.â Daniela laughed, her open mouth was being actively supported by her hand as she tried not to spit out her ice cream. âI canât.â She mumbled.
âI believe in you.â Your support was loud, but not louder than your chuckles.
She took too much at once and, now, she was fighting the freezing sensation in her mouth.
âUgh.â She grunted, her head tilting up to face the ceiling.
âDonât choke.â
âShut up!â Her yell was muffled, barely pushing through the cries she was making.
âI didnât quite catch that.â Your hand went up to your ear as you pretended to listen.
Her eyes moved down to look at you from the cornerâas much as she possibly could.
âAsshole.âÂ
Your laughter only increased in volume while the girl fought for her life.
When the crisis was finally averted, she glared at you hard.
âJust you wait.â She said. âIâll make sure to return the favor.â
âOh, come on!â You cackled. âYou did great.â Your encouragement was falling on deaf ears.
Her glare only intensified as she wiped her mouth with a napkin.
She finally cracked a smile after you stared at her for a while. This was nice. Normal again. You missed it. No tension, no weird looks.
Just you two.
But then you remembered your conversation with Manon.
Your head lowered as you inhaled through your teeth.
âCan I ask you something?â Daniela nodded, taking another spoon of her ice cream. âAbout the break-up.â
Her movements slowed down, an uncertain look running through her features as she glanced at you.
âSure.â
You fingers fidgeted for a second before finding the courage.
âDid you break up because of me?â Her mouth parted, her shoulders tensed, but she tried to remain calm. âI mean, itâs justââ You scratched the back of your head. âSo many people would always comment on how great we look together or how amazing of a pair we make, and, you knowââ
âYou didnât do anything wrong, Y/n.â She cut off your rambling. âI just.â Her lips pursed as she dropped her hand on her leg. âI realized it was not it, that I was trying to convince myself of something that was not there.â She explained more.
âI just noticed how he got increasingly annoyed every time someone said something, or you would touch me, and I got in my head a bit.â
Her tongue poked out, licking over her bottom lip as her eyes darted all over the floor.
Was she lying? Was it you?Â
âListen, there is some truth to what youâre saying, I wonât try to hide it.â Oh, there it was. âHe became more agitated with the comments.â Your head started nodding, causing the girl to sit closer before grabbing your hand. âAnd that helped me with my decision even more.â Her thumb ran over your knuckles.Â
âIâm sorry, I should be the one comforting youââ You started apologizing. This was not about you, it was literally about her.
âThere is nothing to comfort me about.â She stated, but received a skeptical look from you. âSeriously.â Her lips spread into a grin. âI felt relieved when I broke it off.â
âAre you sure?â Was it over way before she did what she did? Maybe, it was the only explanation for why she moved on so fast.
âA hundred percent.â She confirmed. âAnd you should not pay so much attention to what people say.â Her finger pointed at you. âThey can say whatever they want, it doesnât mean itâs real.â
Not real. Yup.Â
Exactly.
Not real.
You shouldâve just told yourself that.
What more could you need to stop everything from going too far?
You swallowed thickly, looking down at your ice cream. At least, you had your answer without having to ask a question.
âYeah.â You let out in a forced snort, realizing that the silence kept going on for too long.
âIt was stupid anyway.â She said, her face scrunching as she pulled the corner of her mouth to the side.Â
The comment stung, but you would not let it show. After all, youâd gone for so many years acting like it was just purely friendship. Admitting to yourself it was more would not ruin anything for you.
You would not let it.
âRight?! Like, ridiculous.â You agreed with her, leaning back on the couch.
âUs together?â She chuckled at the thought. âThey are crazy.â
A laughter came through your lips. It sounded pretty genuine for someone who died a bit inside.
âNot in a million years.â You stuffed your mouth with more ice cream to muffle the inner cries.
You shouldnât have even thought of a possibility, a slight chance, at having anything more.
You were best friends. That was it. Nothing more.
Daniela nodded in silence, poking at her dessert with a spoon. Her head whipped to you as she stared from the corner of her eyes.
âWhy do you think itâs stupid?âÂ
Her question had your eyes widen as you saved yourself from getting choked by the ice cream.
Practice made perfect.
âUhââ What was this? Putting you on the spot like that. You would not get roped into it. âWhy do you?âÂ
âI asked first.â
âAnd you said it first.â
Her eyebrow raised at you challengingly. You knew that look. The straight posture, lips parted just slightlyâready to scold you in Spanishâand that goddamn brow that made your insides churn.
You cleared your throat, moving forward and leaning your elbows on your legs.
âI donât know.â You mumbled, looking down at the chocolate mess. âJustâweâre friends.â
That was your best answer. You had nothing better. She needed to just take it.
Her hum was flat, causing your anxiety to spike.Â
âYeah, we are.â She confirmed with a nod, eating some ice cream. âBut friends get together too.â Her shoulders shrugged nonchalantly.
Like you were not having an entire battle in your head. Like your body was not buzzing with thirty different feelings and emotions.
âI guess.â You murmured, not sure what to do of all this.
âI wouldnât mind getting together.â Your hand froze, eyes darting forward as you did not dare to look at her. âWhen weâre forty and single or something.â She rushed out quickly, quiet Spanish curse following after.
Your mind was getting crazy. She was making you go crazy. Why this conversation? Why now? What was happening? Did she know? Did Manon tell her?
You would take the shoelaces out of all her shoes if she had dared to say anything.
You put the cup of your ice cream on the table, lacing all fingers together in a tight grip.
âOr maybe thirty.â She said again, filling the silence while putting her dessert away as well.Â
Thirty was not far away.
Her hands went to her hair, running through it slowly before she fixed her shirt.
âOr now.âÂ
You could not stop your head from whipping to face her. Now? Was this a big joke? A prank? It had to be. But when your eyes met hers, you saw that look in them.Â
The same one that you would see during practice sessions, whenever you bought her favorite candy. Or accept her affection. Whenever she would use you as her personal cuddle bear.
Your mouth was parted in shock. In confusion. In what the fuck was happening.
But, still, your gaze dropped to her lips, which she bit slowly.
âThat could work too.â Her whisper broke the silence once more.
Your heads were so close you felt her breath. So close you felt the heat radiating off of her. Her perfume.
Everything.
âItâs always better to start sooner than later, I guess.â You found the courage to finally speak.
And it was a good decision as a smile broke on her face before she bit her lip.
âI think so too.â She replied when your noses touched.
And then, you felt her lips on yours. Soft. Warm. You reciprocated, moving slowly. It felt unreal. Everything before could not compare. Every touch, every look, every word. Nothing felt as amazing as this.
Her head moved forward, pressing her lips to yours harder. You felt her fingers on your face as she cupped it.
Your body felt like on fire.
Probably because she ignited the spark that was brewing in you for a while. The spark that you were too blind to see. But not anymore.
The kiss finally broke when the air became a problem. You slowly pulled away. Her eyes fluttered open as your breaths met in between.
âI guess, weâre included in the statistics now.â You whispered against her lips.
They cracked a wide smile as she giggled.
âYouâre ridiculous.â Her hand slapped your chest before she fisted your shirt.Â
You almost got dizzy from how she bit her bottom lip.
She must have noticed, judging by the widening smirk on her face.
âBe careful or your friend will get too excited.â Her comment made your eyes widen to the size of an orbit.
âNu-uh.â You said quickly, waving your finger and shaking your head, causing the girl to laugh loudly. âWe donât talk about my friend at least until the second date.â
You stood up, pulling your shirt down before leaning down for your cup of ice cream.
Daniela burst out in laughter even more at your little rule.
âSure thing, Papi.â Your body convulsed before going stiff when the Latina got up and smacked your ass.Â
The new nickname was enough to make you short-circuit. This was a planned attack.
Her teeth latched onto her lip again as she winked at you before grabbing her dessert and walking to the kitchen.Â
She was impossibleâand crazy. But you loved her crazy. And after all, you got both your best friend and something more.
She probably played a bit of a Russian roulette a few minutes ago. But you could not be happier about it.
It was a relief that she decided to be the brave one.
âYour ice cream is gonna melt!â Her voice boomed from the kitchen.
âAnd whose fault is that?!â You yelled back, eliciting another loud laugh from the girl.
Your eyes rolled, but a big grin was plastered on your face.
You were in for a ride. And you could not wait for it.

Summary: Ever since Daniela broke up with you, your life has been going to hell. Her attitude turned nasty towards you while your feelings donât seem to want to fade away and only more are brought to the light at one of your exâs parties.
âUgh!âÂ
Everything in the universe seemed to team up against you lately. There was not even a second for a break as one thing kept coming after another.
First, the subway broke down. Halfway to your classes. Causing you to run late and sweaty, bursting through the door like a wild animal, startling even your professor.
There was not much to say besides mumbling apologies and looking at the floor in shame. You had never felt as embarrassed as in that moment. Everything was spilling from your shoulder bag while it kept sliding down your arm.
It couldâve been hot in the room, but you definitely were aware that the heat on your cheeks was there for a different reason.
Of course, it was. Everybody stared at you, it was mortifying.
That was not the worst part of your day, however.Â
Just as you were about to play one of the songs you had prepared for another class, one of the guitar strings decided to give out, quickly changing your A grade to a zero.
The professor was not too happy with you and the circumstancesâlike you wanted your instrument to fuck it up.
Maybe you should have taken a second guitar with you after all. Your best friend had joked about it before youâd left for the day. Back then, youâd thought it was the stupidest idea ever.
You hated how it became something you wished you had done now.
But it was not the end.
Because right after that class, the coffee machine decided to be a goddamm bitch today, shooting the stream to the side, causing it to bounce off the cup and right at your new, white dress shirt.
Your stomach felt like on fire, making you quickly move to the side while grabbing napkins and attempting to block more liquid from spilling.
It was unfortunate, really. Your internship interview was supposed to take place later in the day. Now, the outfit was ruined.
And your chances of getting to the corporate world at Dream Academy probably as well.
âHere you go, Clumsy.â Your tired eyes raised from the table, squinting when the sun shone right into them as the girl threw something in front of you.
It only became bearable to look when Sophia blocked the stray of light, letting you finally see her amused and judgmental expression.
âWhat isââ
âA new shirt.â She said before you could even get a full sentence out, putting the straw between her lips, and slurping on her smoothie.
Your shocked face quickly dropped to the item, ruffling through the bag before taking out what made your shoulders feel light like a feather.
âGod, youâre an angel.â The relief washed over you like a bucket of cold water at the sight of the clean clothing.
âI know.â She did not even try to be humble as smugness spread on her every facial feature.
You would let that go without a bite back this time. She was too nice. She saved your lifeâpossibly your entire future career. You had to be kind. You could not be a dick right now.
âI thought the guitar incident was funny, but I decided to come to your rescue after you texted about this.â She pointed at the stain on your shirt with raised eyebrows.
Yup, it was still there. You tried to cover up the best you could. Which was not a lot. It was hot outside, so you hadnât taken anything additional. The only thing you could do was to put your shoulder bag at the front.
You could not help but roll your eyes at the judgmental look she served you with again. Unbuttoning the dirty piece of clothing, you slowly started pulling it down your arms, uncovering a white t-shirt underneath.
âDonât even say anything, today is shit.â
The girl snorted immediately, her lips spreading into an amused smile as her hands embraced the cup.
âLike yesterday?â She asked. âAnd the day before? And the day before that one tooââ
âOkay.â You said defeated, throwing the dirty shirt on the table with a frown. âIt hasnât been myâmonth or two, I guess.âÂ
âMore like five.â Your face dropped at her nonchalance, how flawlessly the words flew out of her mouth before she sipped on her drink.
Like she had been dying to finally say it.
But she was not wrong. Itâd been pretty terrible for a while. Like nothing could stay on the good path. Nothing could go well in your life.
âAndââ Sophia started in a sing-song voice as she dragged out the word while scrolling on her phone. âThe very reason of it is currently walking here.â
Huh?
The confusion hit you like a truck when your brows scrunched at her.
âHi.â That was all it took for your eyes to gauge out of their sockets.
This was the last thingâor personâyou needed around now. Sophia knew it by the look she gave you before gazing up.
âHey, Dani.â Your best friend replied with a wide smile.
A smile.
Why was she smiling? There was nothing to smile about. Especially, so happily? No.
You sent her a small glareâwhich she ignoredâwhile staying silent and grabbing the new dress shirt.
Those months of not being great? You blamed Daniela for it. In a figurative way. It was not really her fault. However, ever since you had broken up, everything had been going to shit.
You could not have a normal day. Not even one. Maybe because your two-year relationship had vanished like nothing. Maybe because you were still mad at her.Â
Or maybe it was a coincidence.
But there was also a very smallâbig reallyâpossibility as to why your life had seemed to take a course to ruin itself.
âIâm hosting a party at the sorority house.â Your ex said in a chirpy tone. The same one she stopped using with you five months ago. âObviously, youâre invited.â
Your eyes mentally rolled, a smug smile almost threatened to break on your face as you knew Sophiaâs answer already.
âI sure will.âÂ
Or not. Maybe you did not know.
Your head slowly tilted at the girl as if to say âwhat the fuck?â. Because what the fuck? Clearly, there was a traitor in your pack of two.
And it was not you.
You inhaled through your nose, your shoulders raising as you bit the inside of your cheek, raising an eyebrow at Sophia.
It seemed to catch Danielaâs attention when her eyes moved to you, turning annoyed. Like you were a nuisance.
âI guess you can come too.â Her bored tone made your tongue click while she stared at her nails.
âSo generous of you.â Your eyes blinked rapidly as you finally moved your gaze to her.
It had been a while since you actually looked at her face. Burying yourself in work and studying definitely helped with ignoring Daniela.
At least, for a little bit.
âA little bit of charity work never hurt anybody, right?â Her lips spread into a warm grin, but you knew better.
She ever only smiled like that when she knew she would win. And she was winning now. Because you had no idea what to say back.
You could only stare at the table while running your tongue over your upper teeth.
Maybe she was not guilty of your shitty months, but she was definitely to blame for her assholish behavior.
âAnyway.â She breathed out like talking to you took too much of her energy. âSee you at the party, Soph.â
âSure thing.â The black-haired girl replied, grinning widely as your ex turned around and walked away.
Your eyes zeroed in onâwho you thought wasâyour best friend as they squinted.
âSure thing?â You mocked her lightly. âReally?â
âWhat?â She asked defensively. âSheâs just trying to be nice.â
Your eyes widened to the size of an orbit. Nice? Since the hell when? You had not seen nice from Daniela even a bit since your break-up.
âDid we witness the same conversation or were you on a different planet?â
âOh my God.â Her eyes rolled. âYouâre acting like you hate her when we both know the truth.â
Well, that closed your mouth really fast. And when you tried to open it back up, only stutters and incoherent words came out of it.
âN-no, Iâwellâitâs notââ
âHonestly.â She gave you a look that said more than enough how done she was with this charade. âEither get over her, or get her under you.â
You almost choked on air while Sophia slurped on her smoothie, staring at you boredly.
âW-what? I donâtââ Blowing a raspberry, you quickly looked to the side, feeling the heat spreading on your cheeks.
There was nothing you could say to defend yourself. You still loved Daniela. You still wanted her. You still regretted the break-up. It was the most idiotic and smartest decision at the same time.
Good for your sanity and peace. But not for your heart. You missed her. But it was easier to act like you did not care. It was simpler to pretend and mimic her behavior.Â
Because she clearly was over you. Otherwise, she would not turn into your biggest bully on the campus.
âYes, you do.â Your best friend stated firmly, uncrossing her legs and moving them to the side. âAnd maybe going to that party will only help with clearing things up for you.â Her shoulders shrugged as she finished her drink.
âNo, because I wonât be there.â
âYes, you will.â
âNope.â You popped the âpâ, folding your hands on the table.
âYouâre going whether you want it or not.â Sophia said sternly, getting up from her seat.
âIâm not going anywhere.â
You were going to the party. With Sophia. Right at your side. Like some babysitter who wanted to make sure you would not run off.
Your grumpy expression hadnât come off ever since she had forced you to get dressedâafter picking your outfit.
Yeah, you couldnât have even picked your own damn clothes. At least, she chose nice and comfortable things. But you hadnât missed how sheâd hung up on the shirts, running through them before picking the one Daniela had always liked on you.
Liked was a misunderstanding. Her pupils would blow fully every time you had worn it.
âStop being so awkward.â Sophia scolded you, smacking your arm, and bringing you out of your thoughts.Â
Her entire body shook as she groaned loudly with an unhappy face, fixing her leather jacket as if you had just offended her.
âMe? Youâre the one whoâs been fidgety the whole way here.â You fired back instantly, pointing at the girl and her fiddling fingers.
Her brows furrowed before she dropped her gaze. She quickly tensed her hands and crossed her arms while giving you a look like you had nothing against her anymore.
âWhy are you even anxious? Itâs not your ex that is hosting the party.â
Her eyes rolled before she sent you a light glare.
âIâm not anxious.â
âUh-hu, sure.â She should know better than lie about this.Â
Youâd known each other since elementary school. Every tick, every little reaction she would make, you knew. You could recognize the patterns right away.
âUgh, youâre making me anxious.â She exclaimed, slapping your arm again while looking at you irritated.
The punch injected immeasurable amount of puzzlement into you. Because there was nothing you had done lately to make her mad.
âWhat the hell did I do?!â Your shoulders raised as your hands gestured at your chest. âYou are literally forcing me to go to this stupid party.â
âYou need to face your demons!â She almost yelled out, face determined like she just delivered the strongest line in her entire life.
But you could only stare at her with a blank expression.
âI face her every day!âÂ
âYou need to face her more!â
Your little yelling match was taking up so much of your attention that neither of you noticed how close to the house you were.
âHey, guys!â Not until one of the girls yelled out to you.
Both of your heads snapped with wide eyes as she waved. Grins plastered on your faces right away, greeting the girl back as you reached the door, hoping she did not hear anything.
âAll the good stuff is inside.â Megan said with a wide smile, throwing a wink in the process.
Of course, there would be good stuff. Not drugs. No, never. Just a bunch of different alcohol. Danielaâs family lived pretty comfortably, so she had money for more expensive liquor.
That was why everyone loved her partiesâwhich increased in number since your break-up. You had laughed to your best friend that it had been a long break-up celebration even for Daniela. But you did not find it funny.
Laugh through the pain, right?
Without another word, you and Sophia headed inside. Your hands were sweating, causing you to constantly wipe them on your pants.
This was already a nightmare. You did not need this. Why were you even here? You couldâve fought her back one hundred percent.Â
But you did not.
You let her force you.
You let Sophia bring you here.
And now, you wanted to leave.
âYouâre not going anywhere, Pup.â The black-haired girl said, staring ahead while your eyes whipped to her. âI can literally read your thoughts.â Her gaze lazily moved to you. âThey are written all over your face.â
You could only scoff with an eye roll.Â
Sometimes, it was really inconvenient how well she knew you.
âJust let loose.â She said, shrugging her shoulders with a grin. But it soon turned into a smirk as she looked at you. âI heard there is someone with a crush on you.â
Your eyes widened, mouth dropping open, causing the girl to laugh almost evilly. And just like that, she started walking away, slowly disappearing in the sea of people.
âWait!â You finally snapped out of the shock. âWho?!â
Nothing about your behavior screamed âlet looseâ. It did not even whisper it. You were anxiously standing to the side, watching everybody at the party like a hawk.
Sophiaâs words had been haunting you for the last hour. A crush. Whose crush? Who could it be? You needed to know, so you could avoid them.Â
You were not scared of people liking you, but it was not necessarily ideal to have others hit on you. Not when you were in your current emotional stateâwhich was severely damaged.
Nothing in you was ready for a new relationship. Heck, you still wanted your previous one back. But you would not tell anybody.Â
Besides Sophia, of course.
Who had been gone almost this whole time. Youâd seen her maybe three times. Once outside, another time in the hallway, and one more in the kitchen as she had talked to Manon.
Danielaâs best friend.
You thought it was weird.
But again.Â
During your relationship, all three girls had gotten pretty close, so it was not really surprising that Manon and Sophia tried to maintain their friendship.
The lack of your best friendâs presence around you caused your previous complaints about her babysitting to vanish. You would love to have Sophia with you now.
You did not appreciate what you had. Not enough. And now, you felt dizzy from all the noise, crowd, and constant nerves spiking at every girl who would come up to you.
You did not want to string anyone along. You would nicely reject the person as soon as possible.
âDid you get stuck here?â A voice snapped your head to the side.
A gorgeous, dark-skinned girl with a nose piercing was grinning up at you as she held a red cup.
You knew her. Not well, but enough to realize who she was.
Lara Raj.
âUhââ You stuttered, not having an idea of what to say back. âNo, why?â
âWell, for starters, youâve been glued to this wall ever since you came here.â Lara pointed out, her voice calm and collected.
But a hint of teasing was swirling in it as she squinted one of her eyes in a playful manner.
âOh.â You huffed out a laugh. âIâm just not really uhâa partying type.â
âCouldâve fooled me.â Her sarcastic comment caused another chuckle to pass your lips as you looked down shyly. It did not help when you saw her tongue run along her teeth as she looked you up and down. âLetâs dance.â
The next second, she was putting her cup away and grabbing your hand. Your face tensed in horror, feeling your heartbeat pick up the pace like a Formula 1 race car.
âOh, Iâm notâ I mean, I donât reallyââÂ
âItâs gonna be fun!â She exclaimed happily, not letting go, and dragging you deeper into the sea of people.
Your mouth went dry at how close everyone was to each other. How close they were going to be to you. That only made things worse. You did not want to feel their sweaty bodies grind on yours.
Seemed like you would not have much choice when Laraâs face whipped around, turning back to you, and getting really, really, close.
âSo tight in here.â She husked out with a grin while pushing her body almost flush against yours.
âMhm.â Your lips pressed tightly as you nodded, trying not to lose your shit.
You hadnât even had a chance to get it back together yet.
Laraâs arms went up as she danced, swaying her body and hips. Her movements put her even closer to you, causing you to back up as much as you could.
She took it as an opportunity to turn around, backing her ass into you with vigor, rubbing it against your crotch like her life depended on it.
It would be flatteringâmaybe even enjoyableâin any other situation. But not this one. Not when you did not want to have anything to do with any girl.
Your face undoubtedly flushed crimson red from how awkward and embarrassed you felt. It felt like a pair of eyes was burning a hole in your face. But you could not be sure.
It very well could be just the heat Lara was trying to put on you. Attempting to get away did not succeed when you realized people behind you were like a stone wall, blocking your way entirely.
This was horribleâin a sense. From everyone elseâs point of you, there was nothing to complain about. A pretty girl grinding on you, throwing herself all over your body. Clearly wanting you.
Who wouldnât want that?
You.
You wouldnât want that.
And then it struck you.
The girl with a crush. It had to be her. Your body only stiffened more at the realization. Dancingâor more like standing since you were doing nothing but cosplaying a goddamn marble statueâwith her would only send the wrong message.
It had to stop. Right now.
âIâm gonna get a drink.â You said loudly, hoping she would hear through the music as you were about to turn around.
âWe can get them later.â She was not about to let you go so easily. Her hand clasped with yours, pulling you back to her.
So strongly that your body collided with hers. A mischievous smirk curled up on her face as she sneaked her hands up your body.
âWhatâs the rush?â Her innocent words did not match her not-so-innocent actions.
This was dangerousâin the most horrible way.
âUhââ You stuttered, losing thoughts and words at the proximity you were put in.Â
Her nose almost brushing against yours. Her lips getting closer when she tilted her chin up. Her hooded eyes trying to screw you right in this spot.
And that was when you felt it. Her sneaky fingers reaching your belt, playing with its buckle.
âI-I gotta go.â Quickly freeing yourself from her grasp, you did not waste time pushing through the crowd.Â
No doubt a person or two got elbowed on the way. But you could not care. You had to break free from Laraâs grip.
Just to fall right in Danielaâs furious face. Her mouth was almost seething, madness running in her eyes like a wild animal as she stood with crossed arms.
âWhat the hell are you doing?âÂ
Her sharp tone caused you to falter back as you frowned.
What you were doing? Trying to freaking survive.
âIâm justâdancing.â You uttered out.
For some reason, your confidence came back while she stood in front of you. Growing a bit taller, you cleared your throat, staring her down as she was doing with you.
âDancing?â Her lips opened in a smile. But not a good smile. She jutted out her hip, one eyebrow raising at you in challenge as her tongue ran over her teeth. âIf you danced like that with everyone, we would have a newborn epidemic.â
Your jaw almost dropped to the floor before you could quickly compose yourself. So, now, it was your fault? You did not even want to go with Lara in the first place.
Your expression switched into frustration almost in a second as you glared at your ex.
âAnd why do you care? Itâs a party, I can do what I want!â Your voice raised, the tone changing to a firm one.
âI care when you try to screw my friends!â She bit back, flinging her arms in the air before pointing at you harshly.
âOh, really?â You breathed out in a laugh. If she only knew the truth. âYouâre so pressed about something you know nothing of.â
Her teeth clenched before grinding tightly.
âScrew you!â She seethed out to you, leaning forward as if the words would hit better like that.
âNot your friends anymore?â Your eyebrow raised as her jaw dropped all the way to the floor. Maybe you were an asshole for that. Or maybe it was payback.
Without another word, you started walking away from the girl as she kept sending you death stares, all the way until you disappeared around the corner.
Well, maybe that was good enough for Sophiaâs âdemon facingâ.
It definitely was enough for you.
âWhere the hell have you been?!â You hissed out to Sophia even before reaching her.
The girlâs head whipped to you, confusion swirling in her eyes as her brows scrunched at you. There was something in her eyes. Something weird and unreadable.
Unfamiliar.
âAt the party?â She said cockily, quickly composing herself, and chuckling at you.Â
Something was off with her right now. She was acting strange. But you did not have time for it. If there was a problem, she would tell you. She always did.
âIs it Lara?âÂ
Her head immediately tilted with an incredulous expression.
âHuh?â
âThe girl with a crush, itâs Lara, yes?â Your clarification did not seem to help much as she just kept staring at you with an open mouth. âShe just pulled me to the middle of the room, then started grinding on me like hell.â
Sophiaâs eyes widened as a glint flashed in her brown irises. Quickly shaking her head, it was gone before you could figure out what it could be.
âWell, how did that go?â She asked, a bit of anxiety showing in her movements.
This was not normal.
Your eyebrows furrowed at her.Â
âLike shit, I wanted the ground to swallow me. I ran away and then argued with Daniela.â Her face faltered, a bit of disappointment and annoyance making their way in. âAnd what is with you? Why are you acting so weird?â
âIâm not!â She quickly denied, standing straighter. âListen, I gotta goâpee.â She stuttered out at the end as if she just came up with it. âYou justâchill, okay? Itâs a goddamn party.â Her arms flew in the air as she sent you a stern look.
Like a mother who was scolding you. But in this situation, it was for not being wild enough.
And just like that, she brushed past you as her lips locked tightly together, leaving you alone once again.
But not before you turned around, catching how Manon went in the same direction a few seconds later.
What the hell were they doing?
The things calmed down a bit. You found a calmer room where a few people were sitting on the couch and talking. You knew them in passing and really did not want to go back to the wildness of the main room, so you sat on the free armchair.
You talked with people for a bit, finally feeling at peace. No anxiety. No stress. Only rest.Â
âHere you are, cutie.â There was no more rest left for you when Laraâs voice reached your ears, making you choke on soda. âIâve been looking for you everywhere.â
Your eyes were wide, fear hiding behind them as you tried to stay composed. But it all went out of the window when she invited herself to sit on your lap.
Her arms draped over your shoulders, her body pushing against your front as she hugged herself closer.
âIâuhââ You tried to move up the armchair, your body going stiff like a stone, but the girl would not move an inch.
âItâs okay, I get it.â She did? You did not think so. She would not be using you as a chair if she did. âYouâre shy.âÂ
Oh, that was not the problem.
The actual problem just entered the room, causing your eyes to almost fall out of their sockets as you felt mortified.
You felt like in danger.
Probably because you were in danger.
It was written all over Danielaâs face. Her eyes burned like fire when they stopped on you.
On Lara. Sitting on your lap. In the most claiming way ever.Â
You could see steam coming out of the Latinaâs ears at the sight that welcomed her into this peaceful area that quickly turned into a battlefield for you.
âBut donât worry.â Lara continued, clearly oblivious to the threat that started coming her way.
And yours, unfortunately, too.
âI know how to loosen you up.â Your body could convulse when her hand started sliding up from your chest, slowly making its way down your stomach.
But you just stayed frozen. Frozen because you did not want her to think there was a chance for anything with you.Â
On the other hand, however, Danielaâs furious face sparked something in you. Fear, undoubtedly, when her murder-filled gaze did not falter even for a second as she walked to the two of you.
But there was something else. Satisfaction.
Finally, it was your turn to have the upper hand for the first time in months.
âExcuse me.â Your ex said in the sweetest tone ever, gaining Laraâs attention as the girl looked up. âI need to steal her for a second.â The innocent smile stayed there a while longer before she basically shoved the other girl off your lap.
She quickly, and harshly, grabbed your hand in a vice-like grip. Before you knew it, your legs were running after her, being dragged out of the room and into the hallway.
âWhat are youââ The question was cut off as you tripped over a glass bottle. She did not falter, she did not stop. âDaniela.â
The call of her name did nothing as she seemed adamant to keep staring and walking ahead.
Eventually, she pushed a door to one of the rooms open. Stepping in first, she pulled on your arm strongly enough to make your body jolt forward.
It felt like kidnapping, to be honest. When you turned around just as she slammed the door shut, you wished you could be getting kidnapped by someone else.
Because the fire in her eyes made you terrified.
âW-whatâs goingââ Her scoff cut you off as she crossed her arms over her chest.
âDid you come here to ruin my night or what?â Her harsh words cut through the distance between you both.
Ruin her night? Like you had nothing better to do in your life.
âOh, please, I donât even want to be here.â
âGood, because you werenât even invited.â She quickly retaliated.
But your head tilted in puzzlement at the statement.
âYou literally invited me earlier today.â Was she drunk or something? How could she not remember it?
âManon said it would be a good idea.â Huh? âI went along with it only because I didnât think youâd actually come here.â And there was her bitchy attitude again.
It made your eyes squint as your jaw clenched.
âIâm here only because Sophia forced me, this party is shit anyway.â You were not about to let her think your presence was an outcome of your own free will.
And you would not let her insult you without saying something back.
âReally?â She asked, her little huff switching into a breathy laugh. âBecause you seemed to enjoy yourself more than a little bit.â
âOh, God.â Your groan made her eye twitch as you looked up. âAre we really doing this again? Why do you even care about what I do?â Your hands flew in the air before dropping at your sides.
Your face was tensed while you stared at Daniela.
âI donât need to see you walking around and trying to suck my friendsâ faces!â She raised her voice, getting more agitated by the second.
âI donât give a fuck about your friends!â You yelled back.
âOh, right, because thatâs how it looked five minutes ago!âÂ
She was getting on your nerves. In how many different ways could you say that there was nothing you tried to do with Lara?
âJesus, Daniela.â Your hands pressed against the sides of your face. âShe came to me!â Her eyes went to the ceiling as a dry laugh passed her lips, her tongue running along her teeth again. âYou seem to give a lot of shit for someone who broke up with me in the first place.â
âOh, now, youâre gonna bring this up?!â Her tone went to a higher pitch as her mad eyes bored into you.
âIs it a lie though?!â
âWell, I had a good reason!â Her declaration made your next words halt. âClearly, you would rather fuck around with Lara than take anything seriously.â
She did not just say that. You had to hear wrong.
âAre you kidding me?!â There was nothing but anger in your voice. âThis is exactly the shit that caused problems in our relationshipââ
âOf course.â She cut in, shaking her head with a mad grin.
âYou never listen to me, you always only yell whatever you think is the truth and curse at me in Spanish.â
This argument is not the first of its kind. Youâd had plenty of those back when you had been together.
Sheâd always assumed things, always created her own version. And no amount of explanation and âalibiâ could have helped. Whatever she had thought, itâd had to be true.
âI donât listen?âÂ
âYes!â Your eyes widened as you could not stand this anymore.Â
âYouâre the one who never let me listen!â What in the reverse psychology was this bullshit? âYou always just deny and deny, then walk away instead of talking to me like a normal person!âÂ
Of course, you would deny something you didnât do. Who wouldnât?Â
âBecause you never do anything besides accusing me and yelling!â This was not going too great, was it? But it also could not be surprising. âI tried to work on things, I wanted us to try, but you preferred a break-up.â
âYou think I wanted to break up?!â Her voice went up a note, eyes going wide as she stepped closer.Â
âWell, judging by what happened, Iâd say yes!â It was a miracle that nobody had come in here yet. Your little yelling match could definitely be heard in the hallway.
Danielaâs eyes faltered, her lips pulling in before she clenched her jaw. Hurt flashed on her expression as she stared at you.
âI have been nothing but miserable ever since we split up!â
Was she though? Because it did not look like it. She seemed perfectly fine, almost as if she was happy you two had ended it.
âSure.â You chuckled dryly. âAll those parties scream how sad you are.â
Her eyes squinted at you as her arms crossed once again.
âOh, sorry I donât cope with my emotions by drowning in self-pity like you!â Her hand opened, gesturing to you with all of her fingers.
Well, that was a blow. Definitely a blow of some kind. Probably a brutal kind.Â
Because you were rendered speechless.
âI donât have to listen to this.â You finally snapped out of your shock as you shook your head. âI donât even know why Iâm still here, hoping like an idiot.â You rambled, stepping towards the door with the intention of leaving this room.
Of leaving this damn house. And this damn party.
âOf course, itâs nothing new you leave when things get heated.â Daniela said, turning her body around to face you as your hand reached for the knob.
But it halted, dropping to your side as your head whipped back to the girl.
âI leave? You literally left me, Daniela!â Your arms flew in the air, frustration and hurt taking over you again. âThen proceeded to be quite of an asshole for months.â
âLike youâve been better.â She shot back. âYouâve been avoiding me since the start, like Iâm some plague or disease.â Her voice cracked, eyes slightly glistening over as pain shot through them for a split second.
âWhat did you want me to do?â It was a genuine question. You had no idea what she expected from you. âI kept my distance since, clearly, you did not want me around.â
âI wanted you to want me!â She said louder, taking a step closer. Maybe on purpose, maybe from all the emotions and movements. âTo fight for me!â
âReally?â You said, not fully believing her. Because why should you? Probably because she would never lie to you like that. But your brain was convincing you it was all just an excuse.
âYes!â She exclaimed. âI was tired of arguing, I was tired of unfinished conversations. I thought breaking up would finally change something!â
Was it really how she felt? Was it actually the reason? Your heart squeezed at the possibility. This whole time, you were looking at everything only from your perspective.
How sheâd seemed emotional, self-centered, dramatic.
It never occurred to you that your responses hadnât been enough. That they had revolved around you defending yourself instead of giving her more insight into a situation.
Your throat tightened, the guilt creeping into your chest like venom.
âDo you still want me to want you?â You asked her, calming down and lowering your tone.
Everything in you was buzzing. Everything was screaming for her to say this word. This one word that you had wanted to hear ever since you two had ended.
Her brows furrowed at you, her head shaking as she closed her eyes for a split second.
âWhy does it matterââ
âDo you still want me to want you, Daniela?!â You repeated louder, firmer.
âYes!â Her tone matched yours. âI do, I want you to want me!â
Your head lunged forward, one hand going to the back of her neck as your lips smashed against hers.
You felt her body stiffen for a split secondâprobably in surpriseâbefore she reciprocated, moving her mouth with yours.
It felt relieving. To have her like this again.
To have her lips on yours. To feel their softness and warmth. To feel her hands sneaking around your stomach as she fisted your shirt at the sides.
How her head would move forward, chasing you adamantly to prevent any possible distance from being created.
But her mouth moved away, planting her forehead against yours, and leaving you breathing hot and heavy. Her eyes stayed closed for a while longer before fluttering open.
âAre you drunk?â Her whisper made your heart skip a beat.
It was so soft and gentle. So different from what you had been hearing for the last few months. A smile threatened to spread on your face.
âNo.â You denied sincerely. âDid not touch a single drop.â
Her sober eyes were jumping between yours as if she was searching for something. You could not understand what. And when you were about to ask, she dived forward, connecting your lips again as she hungrily moved them against you.
It felt unreal. Like a dream. But you would not be picky. Even if this were a dream, you would take it.Â
Because nothing felt better than having her again. Maybe only for now. Maybe for a day. You hoped it would be for years.
And when she switched positions and started pushing you towards her bed, you knew where it was going. You knew even better when her fingers slid down to the hem of your shirt and started pulling it up.
âShouldnât weââ
âFuck it all out and talk tomorrow?â She quickly cut you off, pushing you, and causing you to sit down on the mattress as she swiftly took off her shirt. Her blown pupils were staring at you in hunger. Hunger that had to be satisfied right away. âYou tell me.â Her seductive voice sent chills down your spine as you could not stop roaming your eyes over her body. âI would love to listen to you.â
There was definitely drool rolling down the corner of your mouth. Five months later and she still had the same hold of you. She probably would have it forever.
âSounds great.â You barely let out, completely entranced with her.
You faintly caught the mischievous smirk that spread on her mouth before she sauntered to you like a goddess, straddling your lap as her hands went to the back of your neck.
You were gone. You definitely were. And it would only get worseâand betterâfor you soon.
âThis ride is eighteen plus.â She said lowly, her lips brushing yours in a teasing manner. âMake sure to buckle up, baby.â
That night at the party, it had been a hell of a night. Ended great. Felt great. Changed your mind about going there in the first place.
And about going there? Youâd found out why Sophia had been so persistent about it.
Manon and your bestfriend had plotted a scheme to get you and Daniela back together. Which involved Lara. Heavily as you could remember. It had all been an act from her side to make Daniela jealousâwhich had made you feel relieved in the end.
And the girl with a crush? Sophia had meant Daniela. Your eyes had rolled very hard at the revelation.
According to both girls, theyâd been hearing enough of how much you two had missed each other and had spent too much money on ice cream for their respective best friends.
Youâd wanted to be mad at Sophia for going behind your back like that. But in the end, it had worked.
Itâd been a month since that party. You and Daniela had been doing great. More conversations had helped a lot. You had opened up more and had been trying to answer any questions the way you knewânowâwould help your girlfriendâyeah, exactlyâunderstand better and calm down her thoughts.
She had been better about listening to you instead of jumping to conclusions as well.Â
Overall. Itâd been amazing.
You were waiting for her to join as you sat outside with Sophia and Manon, talking and laughingâmostly those twoâabout your unlucky adventures during the Swiss girlâs absence.
âHey, guys!â Laraâs voice sounded in your ears, causing you to look at her before smiling. âHow are we all doing?â She asked in a sing-song voice, coming up to the other two, and kissing their cheeks as a greeting.
âGreat, weâre reminiscing.â Manon said, throwing you a teasing smirk that you rolled your eyes at.
âMore like bullying.â You grumbled as Lara started coming up to greet you as well.
âBack off, Raj.â
A stern voice came from behind you, halting Lara two steps away from you as wavy hair covered your vision when someone flopped down on your lap, getting comfortable.
âYouâre not trusted around her yet.â Daniela said, sneaking her arms around your neck as she pressed herself to your front as close as possible.
Her eyes were completely focused on Lara whose mouth spread in an awkward smile, like a child that was just scolded by their mother.
âYour little stunt was too great for your own good.â Your girlfriend added, chuckling a bit as Lara huffed out a laugh.
âValid.â The taller girl said, nodding slowly with pursed lips as she took a seat not far from you two. âAt least, I know I don't have to worry about my acting career.âÂ
The corner of her mouth curled into a playful smirk, causing Sophia, Manon, and Daniela to laugh as you teasingly rolled your eyes.
âGot them both fooled.â Sophia added, cackling like a mad woman.
She had been making fun of you this entire time. Manon hadn't been better, only playing into your best friendâs shenanigans.
But you did not care. You had Daniela back. Their planâas stupid as it wasâhad worked perfectly.
âAnd in love.â Your eyes snapped up to the Latina who was already staring at you like there was nobody else in the world.
Her whisper and the look on her face made your heart melt.
âYouâre so cheesy.â The teasing comment passed your smiling mouth as you gently cupped her cheek before connecting your lips.
Acting tough was for nothing when she had you wrapped around her little finger.
âEw, leave it for the bedroom!â Sophiaâs disgusted voice came through as an empty plastic bottle hit your arm.
Not me getting knocks on the door 5 times, followed by ringing my door bellâalso 5 timesâat 10pm just to find out 1.5h later that a bunch of freaking police and firefighters are at my apartment complex, getting a woman out of her apartment by force?đ
What a holy time.
Obviously, I did not open the door and pretended I was not home.

The doors slammed open, revealing your furious face. It was seething, eyes full of fire as they searched for a specific person.
A person you would never imagine doing things she had done.Â
You did not even remember how you got here. The rage was blinding your mind ever since Kate had broken the news to you.
But it seemed like it was new only to you.Â
âYou lied to me!â Your yell made the womanâs head snap to you with wide eyes. The maid who was standing by her side, putting away jewelry, seemed horrified at your sudden intrusion. âYou just can not help yourself, can you?â
Your eyes squinted dangerously as your head tilted the smallest bit. You wanted to think it all was fakeâthat your sister just wanted to taunt you.
That she wanted to mess with your head.
It would be easier. But youâd realized a long time ago that your life would never be easy. It would never be normalâpeaceful.
Never yours.
Because they always kept something from you.
Just like now, when her hands folded at her front. The baffled look on her face only stirred more anger in you.
âWhat are you speaking of, dear?â Her head tilted slightly as she chuckled awkwardly. âEmily, could you leave us alone?â The maid quickly bowed before scurrying out of the room, her wary eyes glancing at you on the way.
The ridiculous question bounced all over your head until a scoff escaped your mouth.Â
Even she could not have that much audacity to ask this.
âAre you seriously trying to keep making a fool out of me?â Her games were not humorous to you anymore.Â
Nothing was. Not after finding out the Silver Walls Palace had been built for Maximoffs. Everything you knewâwhat youâd been told throughout your lifeâit all always turned out to be a lie at one point.
It was supposed to be the place for your parents to rest when you would take the crown.
When youâd become the Monarch.
You had no idea what was real anymore.
Maximoffs were supposed to return to the Sokovian Port as soon as the marriage would be concluded. That was the plan. The one that was shared with you.Â
Another lie your parents could not help themselves from telling.
But it all made sense now.
âElliott, my childââ A heavy huff passed her lips as she shook her head, her eyes darting all over the walls as they tried to avoid you. âI do not understandââ
âYou sold me out!â The words were spat out of your mouth, teeth clenching hard as the Queenâs body jumped at the hostile tone.Â
Your eyes were burning as your entire face tensed. Puffy cheeks flushing red, the color spreading all the way from the base of your neck which was covered by the clothing.
Tear drops blurred your vision, but you did not let them fall. You did not let them dictate your emotions. You would not let her see.
Not after what she had done to you. What sheâd kept doing all these years.
At least now, her undivided attention was yours.
âIs that what I was worth?â You asked calmly. The answer was clear. Her choice had been made years ago. But you wanted her to tell you. âOne more city name added to your ownership? One more land? Is that the price you put for your child?!â Your voice gradually became louder as she closed her mouth.
It was simpler to stay quiet, you guessed. Simpler to answer with silence than the truth.
How could she say it out loud when this whole time she had been acting like her childrenâs word had mattered more than anything else?
But you knew it already. All signs had been there, making the dots finally connect in your brain.
All the pressure she had been putting on you, the detail she had been going into for the wedding.
How much she cared about your behavior towards the Princess and her family. How there was no wiggle room for you to avoid their company, to negotiate this ridiculous marriage unlike every other time when she had let you have a free hand.
You naively thought it was only the friendship she had shared with Queen Iryna that had made her act like she was a stranger who had worn your motherâs face for the past few weeks.
In the end, it was the friendship that had led to itâor at least, it was the excuse for her actions. To minimize the damage she had done.
Her expression was enough to know that she realized there was no escape from this conversation, no possibility of spinning it to her advantage.
No way to manipulate you into having what she wanted your thoughts to be.
âIt was for your own goodââ Her sentence instilled the amount of rage within you that you could never imagine was possible to feel.
âI was eight!â Your yell made her eyes fall closed as you did not let her finish the pathetic justification. Red completely took over your features, your body shaking from all the fury that was coursing through it. âYou gave up my freedom!â
You could not control yourself any longer. The volume of your voice was so loud it was bouncing off the walls and piercing your skull.
Undoubtedly, anyone in the halls would hear the exchange. But you could not care less about it. You could not care about anything at the moment.
The person you had trusted your whole lifeâthe one who would always protect youâsold your future for a bit of gain.
âTook away my choice and made it your own.â Your rant continued as she could only stare at the floor around her feet. âYou promised me to another and hid it for thirteen years!â The tears sprang to your eyes once again as the scream wavered at the end.
Your fisted hand went up to your lips as it pressed against them. It was impossible to stop yourself from shaking. You could not even tell if it was from the anger or how distraught you felt.
It would not matter in the end.
âYou made me believe I had a choice.â An unamused laugh left your mouth as you looked up at the ceiling, your teeth out on display. âAll these noble women put under my nose, how you dismissed them as soon as I expressed my dislike towards them.âÂ
Not once had she fought you about considering at least one. Not once had she tried to make you become acquainted closely with any of them.
Her silence bothered you and brought you a sense of peace at the same time as she could barely look at you.
It finally struck you.Â
It finally became apparent why she hadnât said anything about your questionable relationship before.
âYou knew about Eve.â Scrunching your chin, you did your best not to fall apart in front of her when she finally snapped her gaze to you in shock. âYou used it to keep me for Wanda.â The wet laugh sounded through the room as your hand covered your face.
The realization was hitting you in real-time. How could you be so blind? How did you miss all of this? You had only been 16 when Eve had stolen your heart, foolishly thinking that you two had hidden your romance well enough from others.
But you shouldâve known better. You shouldâve known your mother wouldâve found out without breaking a sweat.
âYou would not let me marry the one I wanted and I would not marry any of the girls you kept bringing.â It felt like you were reading a script written by your motherâs hand the more you spoke. âA perfect marriage guarantee.â You slowly nodded, your tongue poking out as it ran over your bottom lip.
âElliott, I only wanted the best for you.â Her face turned pleading as she took a step toward you.
But you would not let her touch you, moving away and shaking your head. âNo.â The disagreement made her frown. âYou wanted the best for yourself.â Your piercing gaze met her tearful one. She had no right to cry about this. No right to look into your red eyes and pretend like she cared.
You did not recognize the person in front of you anymore. She was not who you knew her to be.Â
âYou became just like him.â Your broken whisper made her eyes widen. âOr maybe I just needed to open my eyes to realize you have always been like him.â Her head violently shook as her chin trembled, not wanting to be compared to your father.
She knew how much you hated him.
But her only interest was herself. Not you, not your sister. Only herself. Everything your parents had used their power for had been for their own benefit.
But soon, it all would be yours.
âDonât forget that the King has to give you the crown as soon as you marry.â
Peterâs words echoed in your head.
âYou are skilled and knowledgeable enough for the leadership, you only need to be married.â The brunette shrugged. âAnd then, you can do whatever you want, Your Majesty.â
By the Kingdomâs laws, you did not have to wait for your fatherâs passing to take over his role. Everything he had been skimming for his entire life would become yours in a few daysâ time.
âNoââ
âBut, you know?â You cut her off, your eyes dropping to the floor as a sniffle sounded through the room. âJust like you made a promise all those yearsââ Your teeth scraped your bottom lip as you looked her in the eye. ââI will make you one as well.âÂ
The emotion on your face switched in a snap of fingers. âAnd you can be sure I will keep it.â Taking a step closer to her, your eyes hardened as determination was booming off of you. âAs soon as the ceremony is done and I accept the crownââ Your low voice made her eyes jump between yours. ââyou can pack yourself and leave for the Silver Walls like you had told me you would all those years ago.â
Her mouth dropped open as she let out a choked cry. You only clenched your jaw, feeling nothing at seeing her walls crumble. At seeing her crumble.
She was not your mother anymore. She was just another stranger who tried to use you for her own gain.
âI donât want to see your face after the wedding.â The sentence was delivered sharply before you turned around and headed out of the room.
Broken cries echoed behind you, but you did not dare to look.
There was nothing left to look for.
The ball was in a full swing as you kept swinging a glass after a glass filled with alcohol. The emotions were buzzing in you more than the promille.
You were not upset, nor sad. You only felt rage. All those times she had wished for things to be different, for your father to turn a blind eye at the rules and let you pick your bride.Â
It had been an act. Lies spilling after lies that had made you believe sheâd cared about you or your opinion. About your happiness.
You had simply believed her, naively thinking that at least one person in this insane palace had been on your side.
Now, you knew. She cared about her friendship and your familyâs appearance more.
You could only imagine what lies she had been feeding Kate with. Your blood boiled more at the thought, causing your grip to tighten around the glass before taking a gulp.
âIâd never thought I would say it, butââ Your sisterâs voice caught your attention, making you look over your shoulder. ââyou resemble father a lot in this light.â She walked to stand in front of you, her fingers wrapping around a flute of champagne at the table before looking at you.
Her words took you a second to process before scoffing in a laugh. âWellââ Swirling the last few drops of your drink, you poured them down your throat before putting the glass away. âI presume him and I have something in common after all.â
Her eyebrow raised as you smiled sarcastically.
There was nothing more you hated than being compared to your father. But you would not be a hypocrite. You had his anger, you could only hope it would not get worse.
As for the alcohol, there was nothing else available tonight. No other escape. Your presence was requiredâas always.
You could not just go get your horse and ride into the darkness of the night. You had to stay here. All those peopleâyou wanted nothing to do withâsurrounding you with huge grins on their faces as they conversed and danced.
It made you sick. A grimace took over your face as you reached for another glass.
âPerhapsââ Kateâs hand landed on top of yours, stopping you. Her eyes stared at you softly but pointedly. ââentertaining something else than alcohol could be a good idea for you.â
Your body faltered at her words, eyes blinking quickly as you gawked at her like in a trance.
âPfft.â Scoffing lightly, your head turned around. The line of your sight skimmed through the room before whipping back to your sister. âWhat possibly could I occupy myself here withââÂ
Whatever else you planned to say died in your mouth when your gaze landed on a certain brunette.
Your mouth froze open as you felt like paralyzed. The deep blue dress that covered her body fit perfectly, flowing around her like in a fairytale.Â
You could see her eyes sparkle with joy when her head turned more to you as she was engrossed in a conversation with her brother. Her white teeth were showing due to how widely she was smiling, from ear to ear.
You did not think she was capable of it. She looked happyâor just not irritated for the first time since she had come here.
It caused a strange feeling to settle in your stomach as your expression turned sour. But it did not stay that way for long. Your brows pulled together when you saw a hand on the Princessâs arm.
Her head shot up as a manâs face came into your view. He was brightly grinning down at the brunette, staring into her eyes like nobody could see.
âWho is that?â You almost gritted out through your teeth, aiming the question at your sister.
You had never seen him before. He was tall and blonde. Very skinny at first glance. And had no business touching the future Queen of Avengell.
Your jaw popped as you clenched it hard, a grit of your teeth joining in the process.
âI have no clue.â Kate said, straining her neck to get a better look before turning back to you. Her gaze fell to your fists. The knuckles turned white from how hard you were tightening them, causing your nails to dig deeply into your palmâundoubtedly leaving marks. âBut I have a feeling you will find out soon.â
Her eyebrow arched at you as she sent you a wary look. But you did not see much of it, focusing on the new arrival that was becoming more and more handsy with the brunette.
Your lips rolled in as your nostrils flared in anger. The next second, you were walking toward the pair that seemed to be occupied with each otherâa little bit too much.
Your face flushed red as you inhaled deeply when his thumb rubbed against her arm.
âPrincess!â You mastered a wide smile, flashing it at the woman who clearly was losing her mind more than you thought possible. âCare to explain what you are doing?â You gritted out through your teeth, moving your gaze from the man that stood at her side.
You entirely focused on the girl as your gaze hardened and lips faltered, forming a thin line. You knew her behavior was outrageous before, but now, she was crossing all possible lines.
âExcuse me?â Her eyebrow quirked at you. There was no trace of the smile she previously wore as her face went blank at the sight of you.
You blinked quickly, straightening your posture while folding your hands behind your back.Â
She surely was not trying to make you repeat yourself.
Inhaling deeply, you were doing your best to keep calm.
âWe will talk in the libraryââ You extended your hand, gesturing for her to go with you when her voice cut in.
âWe will not.â She disagreed firmly, her body turning stiff as she clenched her jaw.
Fury flashed behind your eyes as you looked into hers, which were not much different. Your teeth gritted slowly, your head tilting slightly.
A small huff escaped your parted lips.
âI think youâre forgetting where you are.â You uttered out lowly, slowly losing patience with her.
Her mouth parted as she squinted her eyes at you in annoyance. You could not understand why she insisted on being difficult today. You already had enough of entertainment after your lovely conversation with the Queen.
âI think youâre forgetting who you are speaking to.â Her voice was harsh as she tilted her head.
The confusion washed over you at how hostile she became within a second.
Did she forget hundreds of other people were here? They could see everything, especially, with the way some of them kept their eyes on both Royal families like hawks.
You had heard more than a million times in your life about how you could not compromise your positionâor sabotage the family name.
All it took was a small gesture for nobility to spread rumors that could be unfixable.
She was doing more than enough by letting this stranger put his hands on her body. Everyone knew it was forbidden to touch royalty.
Unless the contact was initiated by the royalty.
Still, it was inappropriate for others to do this. It was heavily frowned upon. Especially, in a situation like this.
The wedding was mere days away.Â
âIf I mayââ The man spoke up, his hand raising from Wandaâs arm.Â
âYou may not.â You quickly shut him down, both with words and a look. He was a bit taller than you, but close enough for you to easily look him in the eye.
His lips quickly pressed together. Straining his neck, he inhaled slowly through his nose as you could see sparks of annoyance on his features.
He tried to mask itânot very well.
Who does he think he is?
Nobody important, surely. You would know of him otherwise.
âDo not speak to him this way.â The Princess jumped in with her low voice that could cut like daggers as she stepped between you and the man. âHe is my guest.â
Her face leaned closer to you as her irritation kept rising.
You could not help the eye-roll that was followed by a scoff.Â
Her guest? You could not remember approving anybody else for this ball.
Your head turned to the side, noticing how a few noble figures, who stood to the side, were watching the interaction.
âOf course, my love.â You said loudly with the sweetest smile that was so wide it forced your eyes to squint.
The words almost caused you to throw up. You did not expect it to be able to go through your throat. Judging by the look on her face, she did not expect it at all as her eyes widened to the size of an orbit.
Still smiling widely, you slid your hand into hers before gripping it. Without giving her a chance to protest, you were quick to walk to the exit.
Trying to find a secluded spot without many people around, you ignored how soft and comfortable her hand was in yours.
âElliott!â She kept calling behind you, attempting to make you let her go. âIf you do not stopââ
âNo!â You swiftly turned around after shoving both of you under a staircase, letting the shadows cover you. âYou need to stop.â
Your face got closer to hers as you pointed at her harshly. The frustration painted your features with the deepest shade of red.
Her head moved back as she looked at you in disbelief. âExcuse me?! You are the one who took me here against my will!âÂ
âDonât you have eyes to notice what you were causing?!â You were losing your patienceâand mindâlike never before.
âWhat?!â Her body moved closer to yours as she challenged you. âWhat was so improper that could cause anything?!â Her teeth showed from how widely she kept her mouth open when speaking.
Or more like seething at you.
âHe was touching you!â You felt your face getting hotter from all the anger that was consuming you.
How could she be so ignorant not to understand the severity of her actions?
Her features shifted before a dry laugh escaped her mouth. Her eyes running over the bottom of the stairs.
âWhen did touching suddenly become a problem?â Her question struck you while she arched her eyebrow in your way. âIt did not seem like one when you were on the receiving end of it.â
Your brows scrunched as your lips parted.
Was that what it all was about? That Eve had held your hand?
âThat was different.â You tried to deflate, knowing fully well how idiotic it sounded.
âDifferent how?âÂ
âIt was not in front of the entire Kingdom!â It was easier to go for this excuse than anything else. But there was truth to it as well. âAnd it is not any of your business.âÂ
That was terrible to say.
She scoffed immediately at your words. âAnd what I do is nothing of yours.âÂ
âThen stop throwing it in everyoneâs faces!â She could not jeopardize this arrangement. Not now.
You hated the idea of getting marriedâespecially, to herâbut at this point, there was no turning back.
âI will if I feel like it!â She bit back as both of you got closer without realizing.
You were too busy seething with rage to notice how your noses were almost brushing against each other.
All this yelling and fury made your breathing pick up as you stared at her with fire in your eyes.
You could see hers jump between your irises before they lowered for a split second.
âJarvis is a high noble, a Duke of Stone Port.â Her voice became low again as she spoke, staring deeply into your soul like she wanted you to understand how serious she was. âIf it were not for your existence, I would be getting married to him now.â She seethed out through her teeth with hatred.
But you were too shocked to process how mad she was right now.
To him?
She had someone as well?
Your mind was overworking itself as you tried to find answers to all of your questions from before.
âIf you get to have your mistress, do not mess with mine.â Her furious eyes threw daggers at you before she swiftly turned around.
Lifting her dress, she quickly scurried off back to the ball room, leaving you speechless, confused, and full of rage.
Rage that started making a comeback as it filled your veins, basically replacing every drop of blood that was there.
Mess with hers?!
Your nostrils flared as your eyebrows pulled together. She dared to bring this stranger into your palaceâyour Kingdom.
Dared to show him in front of everyone as he held his hands on her body.
She would not embarrass you. You would not let her bring shame to your name by letting everyone spread rumors of this arrangement.
To othersâ knowledge, it was a true marriage. And it had to stay like that.
One good thing that came of this conversation was clarity for you. Now, you could freely see Eve. You could finally go back to giving her your time.
Clearly, Wanda would not mind if your attention was elsewhere.
âClinton!â You yelled when you saw the hunter. He worked for your family, his main task was to make sure there was enough meat to feed everyone in the palace. But he also was a close friend of yours.Â
âYes, Your Royal Highness?â He quickly whipped his head to you as you emerged from under the stairs.
âFind Eve for me and let her know she will receive an official invitation to the engagement ball.â
It would be in a few days. It was only for the high nobility. And only with an official stamp from a member of the Royal family.
You knew your parents did not intend to invite the girl or her father. They did not want things to become complicated.Â
Well, they would become complicated if needed.
âYour Highness.â Clintonâs eyes widened. âAre you sureââ
âNever been more sure.â You quickly answered, patting his shoulder. âDo it as soon as possible.â
You understood his resistance. He was scared to go against your parents and he knew very well how much they disliked your relationship with Eve.
But the blonde man nodded, this time with a more convinced expression as you thanked him and let him walk away.
If Wanda got to have her lover by her side, you would have yours too.

Summary: Youâve had a crush on your mentor ever since SHIELD recruited you. Little did you know, the feeling was so mutual that she decided to show you real fun.
âThem?â You heard the billionaire ask the taller woman.
It was hard to tell if he intended for you to hear or if he was unable to be discreet with his comments.
His face definitely had a problem with not talking, you could guess how he felt about this situation just by looking at him.
The woman whispered harshly to him before smiling at you. You returned the gesture while the man cleared his throat and came up to you.
âArenât you a littleââ Pausing, he took a look over you, a corner of his lips raising. âLittle? To be a bodyguard?â
Your lips formed a small grin that looked like you were sorry for his lack of self-awareness.
âIâm here mostly to be your trainer, sir.â You bowed slightly.Â
You did not want to say it out loud, but he did not sin with height himself. Instead, you smiled as he kept looking all over you with a doubtful eye.
âWell.â His arms raised before he grinned. âWho am I to judge? Get in the ring with Happy.â He waved to the elevated platform where a quite big man was waiting.
Stark went to sit on a chair with the tall woman as you pushed the rope down before sliding into the ring.
The man had a snarky smirk on his face as he looked at you amused.
âDo you want me to go easy on you?â His comment made you internally groan as he chuckled.
Smiling in return, your hands moved to the front. âIf easy is your bestââ Lightly shrugging your shoulders, you sent him an innocent look. âThen yes.â
He did not seem to like it as his face immediately dropped before his eyes stared at you in anger.
He was predictable, easy to rile up, so it was not a surprise when he swung at you as his lips pressed tightly together.
Blocking his blow, you slid your body under his arm and bent your knees before pulling strongly.
His body flew over your shoulder before he even realized what was happening. Slamming his back against the floor, a loud groan escaped his mouth.
âDamn.â
âOh my God!â
The billionaire and Pepper reacted, causing the woman to get up from the seat as she ran up to the ring.
âHappy! Are you okay?â Her face matched the manâs scrunched-up one.
He managed to weakly nod as he rolled on his stomach, holding his back.
âWell.â Tony said from his seat with a smile. âYouâre better than him, so consider yourself hired.â His teeth were out on display as his grin widened while looking at you.
You thanked him quickly. Even though it was your mission and you knew either Stark or Ms. Potts would be impressed enough with you, you still liked to show appreciation.
âWe should do one round!â He clasped his hands, ready to get up and join you in the ring.
But Pepper stopped him, putting her hand on his shoulder as she looked at him with a serious expression.Â
âYou have papers to sign, the notary will be here any second.â
And that proved to be true when you saw a red-headed woman walk into the room. Her gaze was focused on the pair that was sitting together again, but you noticed how her eyes wandered to you for a second before a ghost of a smirk crept up on her lips.
Their greetings flew past your head as you stared at the woman. Your co-worker. She was the one who had insisted that you shouldâve accompanied her on this mission.
Fury hadnât seen a reason for it, but had agreed. After all, his best agent had asked.
You thought she just wanted you to gain more experience. You had been under her wing since SHIELD had found you 3 years ago.
Long story short, being a small vigilante in a small Chinese town had been enough to catch their attention.Â
Who wouldâve thought?Â
Not you, that was for sure.
âFront and center.â Tonyâs words snapped you out of your thoughts.Â
Did he want Natasha to get in the ring with you?
It seemed like it when Pepper argued back, looking at him like he was crazy.
âIf it pleases the court.â
You wanted to object, but you also knew better than anyone how capable she was.
It would not do anything anyway because she was walking to you a second later as Pepper apologized for the playboyâs behavior.
You did not hear a half of it, however, as that piercing gaze was cutting through your skull. It was hard not to gulp when she pushed the rope down, stepping inside with one leg while bending seductively.
You felt tingling all over your body, wishing badly to be able to keep your composure at least once.
But it proved to be harder as her green eyes stayed glued to you. Her lips twitched like they wanted to spread into a smile when she stood straight.
She was killing youâknowingly or not. It did not matter.Â
Your hand raised to your face, causing your head to turn as you pretended to scratch the side of your nose.
Anything would help right now. Even a small distraction from looking at her.
âSoââ You cleared your throat. âBoxing? Or maybe martial arts?â Your body was tense as she seemed adamant about staring right at your face while your gaze wandered all over the ring.
âMartial arts are fine.â She replied in that husky voice before her mouth twitched again. âBut I like wrestling more.â Her head tilted slightly as she sent you a smirk.
Your whole body almost convulsed at the innuendo, but you managed to keep it togetherâsomehow.
Nodding quickly, you got into a fighting stance. If there were anything more distracting than this woman herself, it would be Tony talking about her modeling pictures in the corner.
As you moved forward to attack, your step faltered upon hearing what the man talked about. Natasha did not wait even a second, quickly using your thigh as a lever before jumping up and wrapping her legs around your neck.
Before you knew it, your body slammed against the planks like Happyâs had done earlier.
âOh, God!â You heard Ms. Pottsâs scream.
âUgh!â You could barely let out a groan with how the redheadâs legs were squeezing the life out of you.
It hurtâa lot. But you did not want to give up. After all, it would not be the worst way to die.
However, she saved you from any more pain when her grip loosened. Quickly getting up, she gave you a confused look as you tried to catch a breath.
âWow.â Tony said, smiling from his seat.
He looked amused as you finally stood on your feet, rubbing your neck.
âMaybe I should hire her instead.â The billionaire pointed to the smaller woman who had already jumped out of the ring. âYou got your ass handed to you.âÂ
You only laughed at the comment. âHers was definitely closer to me than mine.â You mumbled quietly enough that only you could hear.
But when Natasha shot you a look while holding the papers for Tony to sign, your cheeks became slightly pink from embarrassment.
âIâll see you tomorrow, boss.â The man said to you, sending you a grin before heading out. âGet comfortable here!âÂ
And you did.
Natasha, or more like Natalie for the missionâs purpose, has gotten her own office from Pepper.
After the pair had left, you had stayed behind, going to the office as your co-worker was sorting out the documents she had received from Starkâs company.
You, on the other hand, were just scrolling through pictures. Natashaâs modeling ones. You had no idea about those, not until Tony mentioned them.
She lookedâinteresting. You tried not to let your mind wander too far. Even though youâd had a small crush on her ever since youâd joined SHIELD, it felt weird to think about her like that.
She was your mentor. Your superior. But it seemed like her bond with you had gotten deeper than the one she had with Clint. They were best friends, of course.
However, the time you two had spent together had caused you both to get closer. A few long practice nights had led to her revealing a few of her secrets to you and you returned the gesture.
But it was not anything more. You were younger, only 24, while she would celebrate her 27th birthday this year.
She would never look at you romantically.
âWhat are you doing?â Her voice sounded baffled and shocked as she stood behind you, causing you to have a small heart attack that you managed to contain.
âUhââ
Coming to stand in front of you, she grabbed the tablet from your hands. âYouâre looking at my pictures?â She lowered the device as she gave you an incredulous look. âDoing it in my office is one way to reveal yourself as a pervert.âÂ
You would get offended if it were not for her teasing tone. A ghost of a smirk appeared on her face as she took a look at the tablet again.
âIf looking at public pictures is being a pervert, then everyone is one.â You nonchalantly countered her argument.
But you were dying inside. Your body was buzzing from all the nervousness that was filling it.
And when her head slowly turned to you before she put the device away, you almost gulped while averting your eyes to your knees.
Fiddling with your fingers could give away how stressed you were right now. But whatever. She probably already sensed it.
âI canât figure you out.â She said lowly, bending down as she leaned on the arms of your chair, trapping you in your spot. âWhy did you not block that move? You could do it easily.â
The room was getting warmer as her face neared yours. Finding words was impossible as you could barely breathe, so you shrugged with a blank expression.
It made her huff out a laugh before looking through your soul with that piercing gaze again.
âI have seen you clear out rooms full of enemies by yourself, but as soon as a woman looks at you, you completely lose it.â
Unfortunatelyâor fortunatelyâshe was right. Maybe it was a bad weakness, or maybe you got lucky you did not have more of them.
âI just put a bit of effort into admiring the beauty.â The corners of your mouth tugged down for a second as your thumbs pressed against each other.
You thought she would let it go, but when her eyebrow raised, you knew it was your time to die.
âReally? Is that what you were doing in the ring then?â She moved on her feet, switching them as her hip jutted out slightly.
Her face got so close you could almost feel her breath on your skin.
If you answered, your soul would leave your body. If you did not answer, however, well, the outcome would be the same.
âWell, pffââ You let out air through your slightly parted lips, moving your head to the side in an attempt to avoid her gaze.
It whipped back to her a second later as your eyes widened when her hand grasped your chin and forced you to look at her.
âYes or no?â She demanded slowly, her eyebrow arching at you as a ghost of a smirk started twisting on her mouth.
You could not help yourself, your line of sight dropping to her lips covered in red lipstick as she stared at you.
A low, amused chuckle escaped her as she pressed her tongue against her upper teeth.
âYou knowââ She started, letting go of your chin before putting a finger under it. ââI have felt your eyes on me more than I can count.â You were lucky her hand was not on your throat when you gulped. She would definitely feel it and use it against you.
âAnd when I started carefully picking my outfits just for youââ Huh? Your brain was short-circuiting when her palms went back to the arms of your chair, slowly sliding closer to you. ââI swear I could feel your stare burn my skin.â Her voice was low as she spoke.
You were afraid of looking anywhere else than her eyes. She was making your body tingle. Everything felt hot, the temperature was definitely risingâand something else along with it.
Your pants began feeling tighter as you tried to keep your shit together. But it was impossible with her face so close to yours that her nose was almost brushing against you.
âAnd yetââ She kept saying, her gaze dropping past your eyes. ââyou never tried to do anything.â Her body arched slightly toward you as you attempted to melt into the chair. âI figured youâre a virgin, but I doubted that would be the reason.â She shrugged lightly as you wished for the ground to swallow you. How did she find out? âSo, I wonder why.â
However, this was everything you dreamed of and more. You would never think, not in a million years, this goddess of a woman could ever want you like that.
But here she was, trapping you like a prey to get every little answer out of you. Whatever she would do with them, you had no idea.
You could only hope for this to continue.
âIâW-we are co-workers.â You stuttered out, miserably failing to look casual. âItâs in-inappropriate.â Your rapidly blinking eyes did not help with selling your excuse.
She only smiled widely, showing her white teeth as her tongue pressed against the upper ones.
A deep sigh left her mouth as she rolled her head to the other side. Focusing on your chest, her fingers wandered to your bicep, slowly trailing it.
You could die right in this moment. Your mind had never felt or thought so much at once. Everything was getting overloaded as you dumbly stared at the redhead.
âSo you thought about it.â Your eyes widened to the size of an orbit as her lips curled into a cocky smirk. âWell." Her finger moved to your collarbone before sliding to the middle of your chest. "How about we make it a reality?â
A what now?
Reality?
Your reality?
âShit.â You breathed out as your body almost trembled.
Shit indeed.
It was hard to tell if it was the anticipation of it all, just nerves, or the look in her eyes that made you feel like paralyzed.
âOh, honey.â She rasped back. Her lips inched towards yours, causing your eyes to close. But she moved to the side, putting her mouth at your ear as she whispered. âYou will be saying more than that soon.â
The audible gulp was inevitable as she trailed her hand down your torso while attaching her lips to your neck.
Your muscles tensed when she slowly sucked on it, grazing your skin with her teeth. It felt soft but strong as she started exploring more, becoming harsher.
âMm.â The sound bounced off of your closed lips as your eyes fell closed again when she got to your pulse point.
You could feel her smile spread against your skin before she kept going. Her hand reached the line of your pants, hooking her finger over and running along it.
âAny objections?â She asked, slowly moving down your neck.
âNo!â You splurted out, a bit too excitedly, while shaking your head.
A second later, she tugged on your shirt, causing you to catch the hint and quickly take it off. Your tense, shaking hands went back to the armrests as she took a look over your toned body.
Her teeth bit into her bottom lip before leaning towards you. Her mouth was touching yours as it stayed open.
âArenât you a snack?â The question was met with silence as she pulled on your lip before letting it go with a pop.
Fiddling with your buckle, she continued her actions on your body. Her red lips leaving marks all over your chest before moving to the middle and slowly trailing down.
Your muscles were tensing as your breathing picked up, seeing how close to your crotch she was getting.
âOh.â A soft moan left your mouth when she opened your zipper and covered your bulge with her hand.
She rubbed you through your underwear, sucking on the bottom of your stomach. Her doe, green eyes stared up at you with a small smirk as you found it hard to look away.
You did not want to miss any of this.
Not with the way she was making you get harder and harder with each second.
You wished for her to finally get the fabric off with the way it was almost suffocating you.
It seemed like she read your mind when her mouth moved lower, kissing your bulge before hooking her delicate fingers over your boxers and pulling them down.
Your erection sprang out, causing you to sigh in relief. But it didnât last long as a sharp breath cut through you when you felt a warm, soft hand wrap around your penis.
She chuckled amusedly at your reaction.
âSomeoneâs sensitive.â Her mocking tone did not even bother you as your mouth fell open when she started stroking you slowly.
Your eyelids could not stay open any longer as you gripped the armrests tightly. Multiple grunts started escaping your mouth when she gradually picked up the pace.
This mustâve been what heaven felt like. You had never experienced anything better in your life. The shocks of pleasure were running through your body as she swiped her thumb over your tip each time she got to the top.
âGod.â Nothing was registering in your mind besides everything she was doing to you.
âItâs just me, sweetheart.â She mocked you again. You knew she probably had a fat smirk plastered on her face right now.
But you could not care less. Not in this moment.
The electricity shooting through your body kept your toes curling. You could barely focus on anything as her actions were making your head go blank.
You had never felt so much at once. Your face was getting warmer as your hips jerked when the redheadâs movements picked up.
But a second later the sensation disappeared, causing your eyebrows to scrunch in confusion as your hooded eyes tried to look at her.
Just to shut tightly closed as your jaw fell to the floor when Natashaâs warm, wet mouth slowly slid down your cock.
âIâOhââ You were choking on your moans as she went down all the way to the base.
Your shuddering breathing got louder as you tightened your hold on the armrests, knuckles going white from the grip.
Her teeth lightly grazed you as she started pulling her mouth up, getting to the tip and sucking on it slowly.
Correctionâthis was what heaven felt like.
You could not stop making sounds. Low grunts mixed with soft moans kept running through your mouth like a song on repeat while she kept working on you like an employee of the month.
Slurping sounds followed soon after as she found her pace, slowing down when moving to the base before quickly going up.
âFuââ The word did not leave your mouth fully as you bit your bottom lip, attempting to quiet down.
But it was to no use when her hands grabbed your balls and started fiddling with them.
âShit!â She kept going, not giving you a break even for a second as your stomach kept tensing.
Your head lulled back from the overload of pleasure as she sped up. It was too much. You could not speak anymore as you felt her tongue join in.
âNat, Iââ You felt yourself getting close, your hand raising to let her know.
But she grabbed it and forcefully pinned it to the armrest. Her mouth slipped off your dick, quickly replacing it with her hand.
âYouâre doing so well for me.â She praised you, causing your penis to twitch. âSo good.â She whispered against your tip before licking it while looking at you through her eyelashes.
You could barely see anything through the blurry vision. It felt like your face was covered in sweat as you kept scrunching it.
âIâm gonna suck every drop out of you.â She immediately dove in again.
Without a warning, she started sucking harshly, causing your body to tense as you were getting to the edge.
âIâm gonnaââ Her hand squeezed your balls before quickly fiddling with them as she bopped her head up and down like she was in a race.
You could not handle it anymore. A loud moan ripped through your throat as a load of your cum shot into her mouth. Your hips slightly moved up and down as you chased her lips any time they would go up your shaft.
She did not stop for a while longer before she was sure there was nothing left as you slumped in your chair.
Your chest was heaving, making you feel like a heart attack was nearing while Natasha took her mouth off your cock.
You slightly opened your eyes, looking at the redhead who just literally sucked life out of you.
Her hand was at her mouth as she wiped it before licking her finger clean while sending you a cheeky smirk.
You felt yourself getting even hotter at the sight.
âThatââ You had to swallow spit from how dry your mouth was. âThat was incredible.â You managed to utter out.
Your breathing was ragged as you tried to calm down. But the redheadâs amused laugh caught your attention, causing you to look at her.
âOh, honey.â She gave you a pitying look while her lips pursed. Getting up from her knees, she slowly slid her hands up your chest and stopped them at your shoulders as she sat on your lap.
âWeâre far from being done.â Her seductive whisper had you gulping harshly before a deep moan ripped through you when she rolled her hips on your soft penis.
The look in her eyes was mischievous and lustful.
And it had your entire body twitching in anticipation for what else she had prepared for you.
