Speaking at the event marking the tragedy’s third year, Mr. Duterte told his audience how he and Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez once ogled at Robredo’s knees during a Cabinet meeting.

He said Robredo, who visibly looked uneasy while the President was talking about her, would come to their meeting in Malacañang wearing short skirts.

“Please don’t be offended (with what I have said) because I’m not mad. You would know I’m mad when I start looking at beautiful women,” Mr. Duterte said in Filipino as he stared at the Vice President, eliciting giggles from the crowd.

He said he used to seat beside Robredo during their Cabinet meeting, but the protocol officer in Malacañang apparently noticed that he would just stay behind her.

“You know ma’am Leni would always wear skirts which are shorter than usual. At one time, Dominguez asked me come closer because I was far from them. But I told him, ‘Come here. Look at (Robredo’s) knees,’” he said as the crowd rolled in laughter.

“Maybe she noticed (that I was looking at her). I wanted to tell her, ‘Ma’am maybe next time you just wear shorts… But after our third meeting, she was already there at the far end of the table. I lost the view during the Cabinet meeting,” he continued.

I honestly don’t think it’s shallow to fight for the rights of criminals, or, as it’s also called. Human rights. (I’m thinking you jumped into the local context of the EJKs, but okay.) They deserve a fair trial. They deserve to be investigated, for the rule of law to be applied. They deserve to be be punished in proportion to the crime they have found to be guilty of. If you’re asking me why I always compare Trump to Duterte is… Because it’s pretty much there? The penchant for making not SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound) promises? Granted, Duterte has been mayor of Davao and Trump has been a CEO/President of his own company are two different things - but they’ve been in positions of power and have been questioned for doing so.

You’re right. I’m not from Davao. But I have friends who have lived in Davao. Did my friends happen to NOT LIKE being there? Yes. Even the ones who went “Sure, Davao’s peaceful enough.”, they still have this fear of him. And before you can even say DISCIPLINE, I’ve lived in Marikina for years now. YES, the shoe capital. YES, the city that has had Bayani and Marides Fernando as mayors. We’re disciplined too, and we’re peaceful enough. But we never feared them. Heck, we voted Bayani for Congressman because we think we could share him to the country. The only time Marikina’s ever in the news is during the rainy season and when the Marikina River starts to flood. Even then, the city has an excellent system of disaster management - and we learned a lot during Ondoy and the monsoons. 

You suppose I could get my articles from tangible newspapers, that have copies on the internet? Or from the TV instead of videos in twitter? As the internet is a bad place for sources.

Here’s the thing: OUR COUNTRY WAS IMPROVING. After Marcos, we were left off with HUGE ASS DEBTS, AND PROBLEMS. The Cory Aquino administration tried, they really tried. But they failed. The Ramos administration had some ideas, heck they had bold foresight. The Estrada administration too, but corruption got in the way. The Arroyo administration tried again,  but then again, corruption. PNoy Aquino? YEP, they went and they tried, but… YOU GUESSED IT. Corruption. Is it too early to say for the Duterte administration? YES. But are they doing things? YOU KNOW WHAT? They are. Are they doing things correctly? I wish they would, but with what’s happening, it goes one step forward, five steps back. We’re not as confident as we’d like ourselves to be. AND WITH THIS GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT, DO WE REALLY NEED A TOUCHY, EGOTISTICAL LEADER RIGHT NOW?

For someone who says they lived in the country, and appreciate the youth of the country, you have a funny way of generalizing the country itself. Yeah, we have problems, but most of the time, we do show our best. We’re friendly nation, in case you didn’t get the memo. We’re annoyingly friendly, to the point that this is a comment of expats, of my onshore people that I’ve worked with and worked for. We’re that warm hearted, we’re that friendly, we’re that brilliant that NEWSFLASH, they’re that worried enough to cut ties when Duterte says go ahead and cut ties with us. In Cagayan de Oro, that’s how we complain when we notice that city ordinances are not being enforced. We don’t do our grievances through the tanods, the barangay captains or the police - we go straight to the city councilors since they are mostly responsible for proposing city ordinances and improving them.
