Merry Christmas @lolcat76! Have some sickeningly happy Shandy <3
St. Josephâs newly renovated reception hall was full at 7:30 on Sharon Raydorâs wedding night. Sharon and her bridesmaids had spent the previous night stringing twinkle lights, drinking wine coolers, and creating the reception playlist to replace the DJ who had the audacity to cancel the week before the wedding. By the time the vows were sealed with a kiss, bunches of babyâs breath peeked out of the vases on every table, lights sparkled in rows across the room, and place cards assigned everyone to their proper place.
Andy Flynn and Sharon Raydor deserved nothing less than to celebrate their nuptials in style.
As tradition demanded, husband and wife graced the dance floor first. The cream colored pleated skirt of Sharonâs reception dress fluttered against her knees every time she took a step, and Andyâs eyes devoured the skin peeking beneath the lacy top. âAny regrets so far?â Sharon teased, inching one side of her v-neck to cover more of her tasteful cleavage. She giggled when Andy tugged her off balance only to catch her in time for the first step.
âNone.â Andyâs breath warmed the skin behind Sharonâs ear, validating her decision to pin her hair up.
After nuzzling Andyâs neck, Sharon eased back far enough to show him how happy she was. An hour and half and counting, and she couldnât stop smiling. Just when she thought she could give her cheeks a rest, he would kiss her hand, or feed her cake, or pick âUnchained Melodyâ for their first dance and let her lead.
âWe did it,â Sharon said, draping her arm farther around his neck. Tearing her eyes away from Andyâs giddy smile, Sharon scanned the room full of family. âAnd everyoneâs here.â
Andy spun her a few times, because he knew she loved to see her skirt twirl, but pulled her back before too long. âYeah, we know how to throw a party, huh?â
Sharon scoffed. âIâve only had one drink and not quite all of one dance. The partyâs just getting started.â
Glancing at the bridal partyâs long table, Andy rolled his eyes. âTell that to Provenza. Three glasses of champagne, and heâs practically under the table.â
âAh-ah,â Sharon said, fingers covering Andyâs lips. âNo grumbling today, remember? This is our day to be blissfully and disgustingly happy.â
Andy kissed her fingertips. âYou make me this happy every day,â he murmured.
Oh, this man. Sharon stopped smiling for long enough to hum and kiss him, in front of everyone, because she could. They could make out for the rest of the night, right here on the dance floor, and no one could say a word. Today gave them license to show their entire little world how much they looked forward to spending the rest of their lives together.
âYouâre so hot when you multitask,â Andy breathed against her lips when he realized Sharon hadnât missed a step.Â
Sharon laughed wickedly as Andy lowered her into a deep dip, prompting claps and whistles from their guests. âThen youâll love my plans for this evening.â
Growling, Andy pulled Sharon upright, their noses inches apart. Sharonâs smile softened his intent, and they only exchanged an Eskimo kiss. Sharon smoothed her hands up Andyâs lapels and around his neck, coaxing him closer as the dance ended[R1]Â . Their guestsâ applause broke them apart, and as planned, their children swept them up next. Ricky and Nicole each grabbed a parent, leaving Rusty and Emily to open the dance floor for the rest of the party. Before long, most of the bridal party was dedicated to embarrassing themselves by dancing to songs that only the older half knew.
By the next dance, husband and wife were reunited on the dance floor. Looking around at a room packed with friends and family, Sharon was relieved to see her happiness reflected on so many faces. Even Sanchez bore a grin, but since he chose Chief Johnson as his dance partner, he couldnât hide his amusement. Cathy Tao kept far away from her husband, whose dance moves were frightening even before alcohol. Andrea, whose inhibitions were too strong to be conquered by pesky emotions, enjoyed herself on the sidelines with Fritz and a hefty slice of cake. Amy and Wes huddled in a corner with Elliott, trying to avoid dance partners. Andyâs grandchildrenâSharonâs step grandchildrenâchased each other around the reception hall.
âHey.â Andy squeezed Sharonâs waist. âYou okay?â
Sharonâs smile could have lit all of Los Angeles. âIâm perfect. Everything is perfect. Iâve never been so happy.â She shook her head incredulously. âHow did we get so lucky?â
âHey, we worked hard for this,â Andy said, only half teasing. âEverything weâve endured, everything weâve given up, everything weâve sufferedâand we ended up here.â
Here, swaying in the arms of the love of her life, surrounded by everyone they love. Leaning forward, Sharon rested her forehead against her husbandâs. âIâd do it all again, to be here with you.â
In the midst of a crowded dance floor, Andy Flynn kissed his wife breathless.
aaaaaaaaawwww I LOVE IT!!!

With humanity on the verge of total extinction, the love between two leaders proved that hope would always prevail. There were no shortage o
This is spot on but I'll do one better. How about one of the greatest love stories. Sci-fi or any other genre doesn't matter. The chemistry, the writing, the acting just made this couple gold!
Thereâs always a catch
Ahhh I didnât realize our birthdays were this close - mine is Friday. Happy birthday! I hope you get to spend a lot of it thinking about the space parents and also get to eat some good cake đ

Itâs August 24th somewhere! Happy happy birthday to my dear friend @lolcat76! Hope you enjoy this ridiculous fluff <3 I love you!
AAAAAAAAAAAH I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!! Go read this immedi!!!
Hey remember when US and Russia was all like âWeâre the best!!! Weâve won the space race!!!!â But India sent a kick-ass space probe to Mars and the whole mission was fuel efficient, costed less and a roaring success in the first try and then they were like ââŚ..wait no that canât be trueâ and still have the audacity to call us âunderdevelopedâ or only view us as a âthird world countryâ? :)
For anyone who needs more info, the probe was called Mangalyaan (which literally means space probe vehicle) or Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) and you can also get more information here and here
Remember when NYT mocked India for this very thing and an TOI (a major indian newspaper) responded with this? :)
They were being racist asf and we were till respectful literally fuck you if you think âthird world countiesâ canât be better than you
white people can and should reblog this
and shout out to the women engineers integral to the launch
âIndian staff from the Indian Space Research Organisation celebrate after the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft entered Marsâs orbit.
On November 5, 2013, a rocket launched toward Mars. It was Indiaâs first interplanetary mission, Mangalyaan, and a terrific gamble. Only 40 percent of missions sent to Mars by major space organizationsâNASA, Russiaâs, Japanâs, or Chinaâsâhad ever been a success. No space organization had succeeded on its first attempt. Whatâs more, Indiaâs space organization, ISRO, had very little funding: while NASAâs Mars probe, Maven, cost $651 million, the budget for this mission was $74 million.Â
This was not the only success of the mission. An image of the scientists celebrating in the mission control room went viral. Girls in India and beyond gained new heroes: the kind that wear sarees and tie flowers in their hair, and send rockets into space.â
x
thereâs a movie adaptation of this! itâs obviously more dramatized/they use different names but i really really loved the movie! itâs called mission mangal and it was the first time i had heard of this and i was so surprised that literally? no one talked about it??? what they accomplished is incredible.
ALSO, Mangalyaan launched in 2013 and was meant to be a 6 month mission. Itâs been in orbit around Mars now for more than 5 years and has enough propellant to keep going for even longer.
âThe kind that wear sarees and tie flowers in their hair, and send rockets into space.â
FUCK YES. THIS IS THE TYPE OF REPRESENTATION IâVE BEEN HERE FOR!!
I love how the dudes at back are pure happy!!

Laura Roslin
Happy, or something like it.
Mate to this post
âI confront [white guilt] every year, about a month into my course on racism, among [white] students who come to me in tears because they cannot deal with the racism that goes on in their families or their home towns or their student residences. Their tears are the result of genuine anguish, care, and a desire to learn and to change. I confront similar attitudes among my colleagues, and I am similarly gratified by their concern. But those who experience white guilt need to learn three things: 1) People of colour are generally not moved by their tears, and may even see those tears as a self-indulgent expression of white privilege. It is after all a great privilege to be able to express oneâs emotion openly and to be confident that one is in a cultural context where oneâs feelings will be understood. 2) Guilt is paralysing. It serves no purposes; it does no good. It is not a substitute for activism. 3) White guilt is often patronizing if it leads to pity for those of colour. Pity gets in the way of sincere and meaningful human relationships, and it forestalls the frankness that meaningful relationships demand. White guilt will not change the racialized environment; it will only make the guilty feel better.â

Laura Roslin: âAnd, uh, thank you, doctor.â
Sherman Cottle: âIâm just doing my job.â
Laura Roslin: â No. Youâve done much more than that. Youâve taken a patient who shouldâve died years ago, and youâve given her a chance despite cancer, and the Cylons, and her own obstinate nature. And youâve⌠Youâve given me the little time I have left, and for that you- you have my- my heartfelt gratitude and my thanks.â
Sherman Cottle: âWell, I-IâŚI donât know what to say.â
Laura Roslin: âNo, no, donât, donât. Donât spoil your image, just light a cigarette and go and grumble.â

Okay but [heavy breathing] Laura Roslin is afforded the opportunity to wrestle with ethics and moral complexity and make choices the viewer disagrees with, without becoming vilified by either the show or the audience.Â
Do you know how rare that felt in the mid-2000s, when every Kate-centric episode on Lost was met with a groan and everyone cheering Ana Luciaâs death, when Jenny Schecter became the most hated character in lesbian culture, when we had all these cable shows revolving around male antiheroes that were afforded so much ethical leniency and the equivalent behavior in women was cause for torches and pitchforks?Â
To me, Roslin is the female character of the last decade that comes closest to being allowed, and valued for, the kind of complexity and ambiguity usually reserved for those male antihero stories. She wasnât an antihero herself, per se, but she was placed in that same narrative position of doing bad things that somehow felt justified by the situation: executing helpless prisoners, attempting to rig a democratic election, ordering infanticide, claiming a divine right to rule. Alarming and terrible and sometimes misguided things that, somehow, the audience kept cheering for. Because the show never punished her for not being the soft caretaker that women are ~supposed~ to be.
And I think this is precisely the brilliance of Battlestarâs treatment of gender. It wasnât just that we got a female version of cocky, cigar-smoking Starbuck: it was that the gendered filters of storytelling got swept off the table.Â
Admiral Adama was the military commander but he wasnât for power grabs and bravado; he was emotional, he let his heart guide him even when it wasnât wise, his primarily imperative was was keeping people safe. Giving them hope. Protecting his kids. It was such a tender portrayal of masculinity.
Meanwhile, Roslin had an arc thatâs more typical of male characters: taking up the burden of power, heeding the call as the prophet, approaching politics pragmatically and, at times, somewhat ruthlessly. (See also; Admiral Cain).
It was fucking magnificent, Iâm getting so hyped just thinking about it. And it makes me wonder why other shows couldnât do this; why they couldnât allow their female protagonists to be morally or ethically ambiguous without apologizing for it.
(I think itâs starting to catch on â POI very much does do this and thatâs a huge part of the reason I loved it. But I feel like Roslin was so, so important, standing out in a sea of male antiheroes and protags on cable, proving that audiences could in fact get behind a show with that kind of complex woman in charge.)
