“When we worship a deity, as I see it, we call upon a pool of universal power which, over generations, has been shaped into a specific form and voice by human minds.”
— @potnia-theronx // Artemis Iphigenia | Exploring mythic syncretism
this is the most concisely and accurately i’ve heard my view of the gods worded. the names and mythologies are an access point to a greater, broader power, separated and defined only by human culture and not through inherent or tangible boundaries. when i pray to Zeus-Helios i believe i am tapping into the power of the All-Father, the Maintainer of Reality, He who Gives Rise to All, specifically through one cultures’ refinement. He exists infinitely in other cultures, i just choose to worship Him in this specific way. when i worship Selene, i’m flowing down a river that leads to one source, the Moon, in which a wide variety of other rivers also flow into. hellenic polytheism is how i chose to process and interact with these forces!

there was no perfect path. you did not get punished. your life did not unravel when you made a left turn. the memory will always be there. you can visit whenever you want. there is no alternate timeline where you made a better choice and got a happier ending. you were a little girl chasing the ice cream truck, playing hopscotch, swinging and aiming for the never ending blue. yes, the grief was waiting up ahead. but so was the miracle of saturdays in a car headed wherever you wanted to go. enough sky to wrap around every wound. friends who, despite your perennial bouts of silence, kept an ear close at all times.

I truly do believe that science is not and should not be the enemy of religion. However, I also do not feel like I should always have a scientific explanation for my magic.
Some of the best parts of belief, and experience, is in the belief itself.

The way most people talk about friendship is so depressing to me. It's like... friends are the people you hang out with when you haven't found the love of your life nor your purpose yet; if a friend disappears out of nowhere - oh, well, they must be busy, it's life right? No hard feelings ever, and there's not even a need to fight with or for a friend, because you don't plan nor build your life around friends, that's reserved for your partner only (and your children, of course, and the extended family). And nobody owes you anything when it comes to friends, but everyone owes everything forever (the debts are never paid) to everyone else when it comes to spouses, parents, children and siblings.
At the same time we have (and love!) books and movies where friendship is a bond as strong as love, as transformative as love; we see, also in real life, friends that save each other's lives in so many big and small ways; we have all the examples we need, and yet we choose to downplay such a great experience because... why? I mean, I know that this is amatonormativity at its best, but really, why?

Lokasenna is such a funny name because it sounds just like “loca cena” which in spanish means “crazy dinner” and it’s so accurate it hurts
