I’ve listened to all other versions, watched as many recordings as there were and actually have read the book as well and while Colm Wilkinson is my favorite Jean Valjean, the movie version is holistically more enjoyable in my opinion!!

In honor of international women’s day, I’d like to mention my endlessly brave, courageous and strong Kurdish female soldiers.

As a Kurd myself, it pains me more than anything to see our beautiful women being oppressed by several forces: patriarchal marginalization, military aggression and religious extremism.

It is a time of great hardship for all Kurds, but especially so for the women taking arms against military aggression. For decades, Kurdish women have been fighting in militia groups, I have seen my own cousins join the Guerilla and I have seen my own grandmother weep over our nation.

We Kurdish women are strong, we don’t let ourselves be oppressed by any government, by any man, or by any religion.
