Exactly, that's what I'm choosing to take away from this season. It's total validation that if Veronica had walked into Pops and seen Jughead typing away and started up a conversation with him first, then things would have turned out very different. To me, this season proves they were soulmates all along. It may not have the depth and expanse and storylines we've wanted for them, or the smut and the bickering and the enemies to lovers we all thought they'd be, but it does prove that at their core without obstacles or baggage or the guilt associated with their treacherous friendships that they would find each other and fall in love. He picked her twice, he's not on a bus to Chicago, he's not drinking his sorrows over the lover who betrayed him. It's been really satisfying to finally see that chemistry come to fruition, even in these brief moments, it's proof of a concept we've recognized all along and I am happy we got that, and grateful that we wont be left never knowing what could have been.

Not confirmed just heavily speculated. Ras and Cole have talked about it before during a con, and there's a lot of clues in the first two seasons that it's leading there before the big swerve away from it. I think the general theory is that after Jug joins the Serpents he would date Toni for more episodes but due to Vanessa getting death threats they dropped that very quickly. But with the Lodge vs Jones plot and the B*rchie kiss it seemed like they were moving in that direction but then ras changed his mind because of that hot topic merch deal.
