nobody talks about how exhausting it is to live in that space between "things will get better" and "i can't handle this anymore." it's like your emotions are constantly swinging. leaving you both hopeful and defeated in the same day.

I had a dream last night that they made a Karen Page special episode. It was about a tragic event in her backstory/youth and it was told as a flashback. Frank Castle was in it (because she was sharing this story to give him perspective), so he was in the opening scenes and then in the end where it cut to the present. He was very impressed by her perseverance lol.

THEN the dream cut to me at a teacher’s conference, and it was very typical… Uncomfortable chairs, microphones that don’t work, no captioning, etc. Well, while I was at this conference m, an older woman walked up to the chair behind me and had a People magazine and was showing her friend an article about her daughter and this new show she was in. I guess I dreamed up DAW’s mom???? lol idk

In the dream I had read the article, and I turned around in my chair and I was like “wow, I really love your daughter’s work” and she said thank you, and then I asked if she (DAW) was going to be in the Punisher special, and right at that moment, the speaker called for attention and the mom had to go sit down, but before she did she whispered “yes”.

I need to think about it more, but there’s something so distinct about how Karen behaves in the diner scene.

I suppose it’s related to the “You’re honest” she aims at Frank. It feels like one of the first moments that Karen is really honest. Not even in what she says but in her disposition, her relative stillness.

There’s something kind of frenetic and jittery about her around Matt and Foggy, sometimes. Even after her Wesley and brother reveal.

I just rewatched seasons 2 and 3 of DD and the Kastle scenes from The Punisher. She can be very still around Frank. At ease? Sure of herself? It’s an interesting performance choice on Deborah’s part!

She has some of that frenetic energy when she first meets Frank in the hospital, when he asks her to stay (“please”). It’s like she’s wearing this Good Person* TM mask that she puts on around Matt and Foggy and that constant motion is something Good People* do, and she’s still wearing it when trying to get answers out of Frank, and then something shifts. Honestly, she shifts. She’s frustrated that he isn’t making an effort and the mask comes off, and she tries it her way instead, and Frank is more receptive, the connection grows, and honestly, in all scenes after, there is definitely more of a calmness to their interactions. A stillness. It really as if she can be herself around him (and vice versa).

*Karen is a good person, I don’t think this is a good label for it, but maybe a falseness?phoniness? a character she is playing for survival? Some word that means “this isn’t really me, I’m masking”
