Imagine it’s like watching wrasslin’ and your fave finally gets a shot at the WWF heavyweight championship. They’ve crawled, clawed, and fought for years and finally they get their moment. They get their time in the sun. We’re in an age where there are mad Deadpool or Spider-Man books plus Spider-Family related books (DC does the same with Bats and Supes) because you know that’s money. 

However, when an underrated fave get a shot at a championship? When they finally get their due? It’s a special moment where seeing your hope in this character hasn’t gone overlooked. Come March 2017 we’re gonna see fan favorite America Chavez run out into the royal rumble and scrap with the best of’em as her first solo series hits the shelves…”

you can see more/bigger examples of my art here, but keep in mind that i am only offering portraits right now.

as seen above, prices start at $35 and vary depending on extra features. obviously, there are some exceptions—i’m not going to charge you for a single stud earring or something like that. of course all prices will be decided before i start working, so we can discuss!

im gonna need as many references as possible. this will keep both of us from getting super frustrated in the long run. color swatches, face claims (VERY HELPFUL), refs for lips or eyebrows or eyes or whatever, give me EVERYTHING that would affect appearance.

i do request half payment before starting, and then the other half after you approve the final product. after preliminary sketches are done, major changes will cost extra, so don’t be afraid to nitpick!

Also, I am right now going through your blog, reading all the Important Posts™, and I want to thank you. A lot of them make me uncomfortable, and there’s probably a good reason for that.

My advice to you, when dealing with choose your own story/hero adventure games that are like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, is to instead shift your focus on uplifting the already canon characters of color in the series. I totally agree, lots of Thedas as we’ve seen is overwhelmingly white but the thing is that fans of color are the ones who are addressing that issue with their OCs and their stories. We know the specific problems with race and racism in the Dragon Age universe and are addressing them with the nuance that was lacking in the source material. Read works by people of color that deal with this problem. Boost their works. In the meantime, give love to canon characters of color in Dragon Age. They need it too.

And yes, discussions about race are always going to be uncomfortable because they are deeply personal and a lot of times, very traumatic upon the people of color who have to deal with it. Race is not easy to talk about but the important thing I need you to remember as a white person is that the reason it is uncomfortable to you is because you probably aren’t used to people of color being as open and forward about the direct way racism impacts them. A lot of us come off mad because we have the right to be. We are forced to conform to a society that would brutalize us for our race and we have to fight tooth and nail for our right to just live. And this extends beyond race even. Sexuality, gender, ableism, class… Any discussion about oppression and privilege is going to be deeply uncomfortable because we are being confronted with the realities of people who are being hurt by these systems of oppressions.
