if there’s one thing byunghun isn’t good at-- no, scratch that, the list of things he isn’t good at would go on and on, but one of the many things he isn’t good at is facing his fears.

not to say that he’s scared of ricky or anything, but he’s scared at what the younger male feels towards him-- he’s noticed it over the period of his absence, something that feels akin to being given the cold shoulder, of being disliked-- maybe even hated. 

and he can’t stand that. can’t stand the fact that the younger male he’d grown closest to during his stay in Seoul-- one he’d treated like his own flesh and blood brother (he would have asked his parents to adopt Ricky in a heartbeat, if that’s what he’d wanted)-- had grown to hate him for his leaving. 

part of him understands why ricky is upset at him-- he has every right to, after byunghun had up and left without much of a warning, but part of him thinks that it’s unfair how the younger male couldn’t see that he had to do it-- to look out for his own well-being for once. not that any of those excuses matter now. 

that’s not to say that he wasn’t concerned about ricky at all during his disappearance-- and it’s not like he never tried to keep up with the younger male or anything, but he’d become discouraged as time went by. ricky never seemed too enthused about his little check-ups anyway. his heart would sink a little every time sohee would mention ricky-- aching for a chance to reconnect, but never knowing how. but that’s enough of that, he thinks. no more excuses for him now. there’s nothing the younger male can throw at byunghun-- be it words or objects-- that he hasn’t already had before.

because if there’s one thing byunghun is good at, it’s taking a hit. 

so there he stands, clutching their old apartment key in hand but he doesn’t have the heart to open it himself-- what if he isn’t there? byunghun isn’t new to ricky’s habits of not going home, despite his continuous effort to upkeep with the rent just so ricky can keep having a place to come home to-- albeit probably a little too big, and sad, and empty without him there. or at least, that’s what he likes to think.
