I love how Battler's 'incompetence', read difficulties solving the mystery, works as a doylist tool to help the readers while obscuring the solution and as a watsonian character trait reflecting his struggles acknowledging the worst in the people he knows.

Because as much as I enjoy meme-ing about it, I think it's important to highlight there is a reason why Dread of the Grave and Dreamendischarger have such an upbeat feel. It's umineko reminding you that even if your theories are wrong, there is meaning in engaging with the mystery and trying to solve it.

I love how in Umi, you could interpret Battler as being the Watson of the story, while you, the reader, could be interpreted as the Sherlock. It makes for a very engaging and personal reading experience like no other.
