A Love Affair with Languages

OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.

I'm so curious to see responses to this. I've always considered clicking the ❤ like as a little show of support...inherently nice in nature. Is that weird or the norm?

When I post something shitty that's happened to me, when my mutuals and others "like" it, I am receiving it as "support to you dear" and NOT "lmao I like that a bad thing happened to you."

But it's recently come to my attention that may not be the typical interpretation. Plus, I can see that when I post bummer news, I get WAY LESS ❤ than good news, so I'd suspect this is at play.

So tell me...do you see "liking" a post as support? NOTE: THIS IS NOT ABOUT REBLOGS. I understand that liking art/fundraisers/etc. and not reblogging can be seen as rude. This is not about that topic.

I went, "What. no. she/her."

"How does that work? With she/her/hers and they/them?"

I stared at her. "What are you talking about?"

"Well you came out as-" and I said, "I'm asexual."

She replied, "Like an amoeba, I know."

"Oh. My god. No. Mom. It doesn't- it's not the asexual you learned about in biology. I didn't come out as a single celled organism."

With heavy relief, she said "Oh, it has a different meaning?"

i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mine—an N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.

so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said “damn. never known a woman to choose…practicality over looks.”

And I just said, “oh. you can go, you’re not getting a drink.” And he said, “what???”

I said, “sir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.”
