Creating new wealth is largely speaking a better and more primary goal than redistributing existing wealth when it comes to bettering society. Certainly, there is room for both, but something net zero is tautologically stagnant. There is no development in redistribution, no progress for society, and it is inherently unsustainable. Increasing production (aka creating new sources of material wealth) and allocating those gains appropriately is far more efficient, faces far less resistance, leads to stronger conditions for future development, and reduces alienation of the workers. Redistribution is a stopgap at best, and while sometimes you do need a stopgap, you are better off using that wealth to develop new, worker-driven factors of production than simply giving it directly to individuals. Develop more efficient labor, more engaged labor, cheaper goods and adequate workers compensation; that is a far more stable basis for socialism than simply redistributing what capitalists have built. Do we not claim to be better than them, the inevitable future system of organizing society? How can we call ourselves the future if we build nothing of our own, and simply mine out the reservoirs of the past.
