a series of small victories

i'm not going to sit here and call anyone a bad person for not sharing fundraisers on their tumblr blog because i don't think anyone is obligated even a little bit to use social media as the avenue by which they attempt to do good in the world. but something i do think is incredibly crass is the amount of blogs i see who insist on having long bios or pinned posts telling you they will never ever do this and block anyone who asks them to. you know you can just keep your mouth shut and quietly proceed with your regular blogging right? you don't have to announce you are going to block anyone who asks you to help. you don't need to talk about how really you just have too many problems to be able to be concerned with the suffering of people objectively much worse off than you. you don't need to subtly or not-so-subtly perpetuate the unsubstantiated dehumanizing racist talking points about how these people are probably all spambots anyway. you can just choose not to make yourself look like a complete asshole yknow?

every couple of days someone makes a post on here that's basically "watch out for those scamming palestinians! they're really annoying and i don't like them, which disproves the extensive vetting efforts, because my discomfort is the most important thing in the universe" and everyone in the reblogs is like "thank god someone finally said something! i knew it! i had an inclination in my heart that those palestinians are dirty scammers all along and i was waiting for someone to confirm it! and now that you said you find them annoying that finally confirms it! wait shit that sounds racist i mean uhhhh it's so tragic that those scammers are taking advantage of a tragedy :( pretending to be real palestinians :( we all know real palestinians don't know how to use the internet :( thank you for talking about these fakers :(" i hope you all die

the most important part of online is understanding that all behavior is annoying when its people i don’t like but its funny when my friends do it and all interests are cringe when i don’t like them but they are immaculate when i do like them. when i talk about hating things its because i have good taste and i love talking shit but when other people talk about hating things that i like they are a loser who doesn’t know how to have a good time unless they are my friend in which case they get a pass. this is the law of the land
