Suhaam was injured in a bombing, and because the medical personnel in Gaza is so overwhelmed, the bone in her arm has been welded wrong! However, with the shortage of medical resources and facilities, the cost to fix her arm is very costly. With the heavy cost of the surgery and other basic necessities, Suhaam has been in pain from the injury in her arm and the failed surgery for an entire year now! Her health and the condition of her arm has deteriorated since, so she needs to have the operation as soon as possible!

Moreover, since their tents were completely destroyed in a bombing previously, Hashem had been focused on trying to buy a new tent so that the 26 people in his family, including Suhaam, have somewhere to rest and some shelter against the cold and the rain. But while Suhaam now have a place to sleep, rest alone cannot heal her arm. With each passing day without the operation she needs, the condition of her arm worsens.

Not only has tumblr staff repeatedly shadowbanned and deleted my friend over his attempts to keep his family alive, but people are no longer paying much, if any, attention to his campaign. He feels that everyone has become too desensitized to Palestinian suffering, and it has made him incredibly depressed. It is extremely demoralizing to beg for help from strangers online day after day, especially when it yields fewer and fewer donations. As a result, he is considering leaving tumblr entirely, which I'm very worried would only hurt his family's chances of survival!!!

I get SOO annoyed whenever people complain about the media using the word "alleged", especially when there is video footage of the crime happening... people complain that it's some sort of media bias, and not like... straight up a VIOLATION OF A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT if they don't say "alleged"

The presumption of innocence is a right. Luigi's rights have been violated repeatedly in this regard.

You're 100% right, and that's not even gaslighting. That's exactly the question everyone SHOULD be asking.

Do we know he did it? Absolutely not. And unless a jury reaches a guilty verdict, we are all supposed to assume he did not do it. That's exactly how the presumption of innocence works.

Everyone saying that we all know he did it is just doing the prosecution's job for them. We don't know that Luigi Mangione is the guy in the CCTV footage. The prosecution has to prove that he is, and if they can't, he gets acquitted.

And that's exactly why the media has to say "alleged". It wouldn't even matter if they had footage that clearly showed his face, because the media and the general public doesn't get to decide if someone is guilty or not.

And that's why it's so good that his lawyer has already called this out, because without the presumption of innocence, you can't have a fair trial.

In every court case, the burden of proof only falls on one side, and in criminal cases, it's always on the prosecution. So basically that means if you are on trial, you walk into a court where the assumption is that you are not guilty, and the prosecution has to convince the jury that you are guilty, while the defense just has to raise reasonable doubt.

Since the presumption is that you're innocent, if the defense can poke holes in the prosecution's case, enough that the jury isn't 100% convinced that you absolutely did it, they have to acquit.

But if you walk into a court where everyone already thinks you're guilty, it's going to be a lot harder for the defense to raise reasonable doubt, and the burden of proof is going to essentially be lifted from the prosecution, because they're just proving something that the jury already thinks is true.

So when the police and the Mayor of New York keep going out of their way to present Mangione as guilty in public (the perp walk, having 4 officers behind him at the arraignment, as though he's a danger to society, not saying "alleged"), they are convincing the public that he's guilty before a trial even starts, and it's going to be difficult to find an unbiased jury. If the jury is made up of people who think he's guilty before it starts, he doesn't get a fair trial.

So it's not gaslighting to ask if we actually know it's him... we don't know, and people very much need to keep remembering that.

None of us were eyewitnesses. The CCTV footage doesn't show his face. We didn't see the police find the alleged evidence on him. We haven't seen this evidence in person. We have not heard any sworn testimony. We have not heard a confession.

Imagine how Hashem must feel! He is responsible for 26 people, including 13 children. 12ft.io: the legend himself. definitely my favorite of the bunch by virtue of being the easiest to use (and the easiest url to remember), but it's configured to disable paywall evasion for a handful of popular sites like the new york times, so you'll have to go elsewhere for those.

printfriendly: works great; never had any issues with removing paywalls, even on domains that don't work with 12ft.io. since this site is literally designed to make sites print-friendly, it might simplify the overall formatting of the page you're trying to access, which can be a good or bad thing. my only real issue is that the "element zapper" (which lets you remove content blocks from the print-friendly preview) is a little sensitive if you're browsing on a touchscreen device, which means you might accidentally delete a paragraph when you're just trying to scroll. but if that happens you can reload the page and it'll revert everything back to its original state.

fifteen feet: basically a 12ft clone, minus 12ft's restrictions. haven't used it much since I only discovered it yesterday in the wake of 12ft's 451 error but it seems to do the trick.

archive.today: an archival tool very similar to the wayback machine, but it also works as a de facto paywall removal tool. (the wayback machine seems to remove paywalls as well, but archive.today has better UX imo and is way faster to use.)

Sometimes intersex people have a complicated experience with being "assigned" a sex. Sometimes an intersex person is assigned female at birth and then coercively or even forcefully reassigned male later, usually during puberty. So in order to identify as a women they would need to subvert their assigned male status.

People born with a micropenis or other forms of ambiguous genitalia pretty much have a 50/50 chance of being assigned male or female, it's kind of up to the doctor or ever how that doctor is feeling that day. What this means is that someone who was assigned female can have an identical body to someone who was assigned male. This means that an afab person can be born with a penis and go through a fully masculinizing puberty. Even if they're afab, they may feel the need to go on hrt, get bottom surgery, and go through a transition process that is identical to that of an amab trans women.

Some intersex people don't consider their physical sex to be either female or male and may feel the need to transition to a body that they feel is female/male, regardless of what their agab is.

Essentially: Afab doesn't mean "fully recognized and viewed by society as female" nor does it mean someone with a typical female body/experience. It describes an event that happened at the beginning of a person's life. This event can have an effect on the experiences of people later in life but for intersex people specifically this event is often either traumatic or just plain inaccurate and doesn't describe how we actually live.

Many intersex people, regardless of agab, feel as though they have to transition (both socially and medically) into their gender. Sometimes this takes the form of people who were assigned female and have transitioned into being women.

As for "cis women who aestheticize and objectify trans women" - just say you don't see hormone disorders as intersex. Fun fact - for most of my life, I was diagnosed with PCOS. For all of my life, I had parents and doctors neglecting heart issues. Parents who got angry when I wanted to see a doctor.

Then I found out I had CAH this entire fucking time. Which looks like PCOS in certain aspects, but isn't. CAH comes with critical heart issues and is often met with cosmetic surgery on infant genitalia to reduce clitoral size, despite this not impacting the heart.

I didn't know I had that fucking surgery until this year despite being sexually active for nearly 20 years and always having complications and weird looking labia! :) My lifelong heart issues never even got medicated until I was 28!! My parents intentionally medically neglected me to avoid me finding out I was intersex!!

I'm saying this, not because I consider myself a trans woman (I don't), but because intersex people with hormone disorders are OFTEN who you bigots are referring to when you're talking about "cis women who aestheticize and objectify trans women" or "cis women fetishizing intersex people" or anything else in that fucking horrible, obnoxious, intersexist realm. Hormone disorders are called hormone disorders because doctors want intersex traits to be a fucking disorder. Not because of the heart issues or other actually treatable issues that ARE DISORDERED! And y'all aligning with this mentality is so fucking horribly bioessentialist and nasty.

Even without HRT, my body looks like that. I have boobs. I also have what appears to be a very small penis. That's just what my body looks like. I've have multiple sexual partners comment on the fact that my clitorus is apparently gigantic. My cis gay partners called it a penis without being told to. I could, and did, penetrate them with a prosthetic intended for cis men with microphallus- often an intersex variation of its own right. I've had doctors comment to say it is well out of the norm for size.

I may have suspected, but did not have confirmation of my intersex status until I was 29. I had a severe health problem and discovered while writhing in pain in an ER that I most likely was intersex in my mid 20s. I confronted my mother about this and she confirmed that the birthing doctor not only almost assigned me male at birth due to ambiguous genitalia, but also told her I most likely was intersex. She then performed medical neglect on me for years to prevent me from finding out and only confessed when it became clear that my body was going to keep trying to kill itself without treatment.

I have NCAH. I made it nearly 3 decades assigned female at birth before figuring it out. I was almost assigned male. For me, testosterone was the treatment I needed to fix 90% of the heart and health problems NCAH causes. Without it, I would likely continue having adrenal crises until eventually one killed me.

(According to the ultrasound in which the nurse stated I needed to talk to an endo about this, I also probably have a testicle in place of one of my ovaries as it's very not ovary shaped or sized, but we'll see whenever I manage to get a hysto- apparently up to 1/10 of people with NCAH and CAH have additional internal genital variations.)
