the rain had come and gone, yet the sky’s humid anger could still be seen through the fog, all over seomri. sera’s way uphill was more of an obstacle course than anything – dodge the streams of murky water running along the gutters, hop over puddles and avoid spraining an ankle by stepping in any hidden potholes. though she had to put more effort into her hike than usual, she made it to the sanbit stones intact … save for her muddy shoes that would need a thorough clean up.

the omnipresent “ be back soon ! ” sign while the clerk was outside on her phone offered comedic relief and sera finally had a reason to smile. she greeted siyu and before she knew it, she stepped to the side to make room for the employee to walk past her. 

it all happened in an instant. mud squelched under a rushed step and all signs of a stable walk vanished as the foreigner went for the ground against her will. sera’s entire body tensed without a conscious decision; pure survival instinct is why she extended her arms and grabbed onto what she could: an arm and a shoulder. albeit not halting the fall entirely, her grip on siyu took away from the force of the fall.

she  shouldn’t  have  gone  to  seoul  for  the  weekend. that  was  the  thought  that  kept  playing  in  her  mind.  but  she  had  set  off  anyway,  smell  of  copper  and  burnt  wood  announced  haera’s  arrival  to  the  capital.  it  all  served  a  purpose,  of  course.  the  looming  threat  of  the  school  enforcing  its  rule  –  don’t.  hurt.  others.  –  had  done  quite  a  number  on  miss  fortune.  fearing a punishment,  to  the city  she went;  oblivious to just how bad her condition truly was, but well-aware that she hadn't used her ability in a few weeks. 

lights  flickered  one  by  one  as  she  made  her  way  down  the  dimly-lit  alley, roaches swarming out of derelict houses, pools of water unearthing worms from their hiding spots.  coldness of the rain stung  as  it  dampened  her  hair  and  trickled  down  her  temples,  but  there  was  nothing  left  for  her  to  do  but  to  pull  her  coat  tighter  around  her.  she  was  in  too  bad  of  a  mental  space  to  decide  why  her  body  trembled  the  way  that  it  did … or  to  mind  that  windows  seemed  to  crack  and  shatter  after  she’d  passed  by  them.  she  hunched  her  shoulders  up  higher  and  started  to  walk  faster  with  the  hope  that  her  meet-up  with  jia  would  have  a  positive  outcome.

haera had sent her familiar on a mission  – study the pojangmachas in the area, listen to their stories and pick the worst person of them all, one that would be a worthy victim.

lee haera. witch with a negativity inducement ability willed by a devil pact. the coven she belongs to made a deal w the devil to become more powerful, but now the whole lineage is cursed with having negative abilities (read: sin manipulation, vice inducement, pain inducement, jinx, you name it, they've got it )

negativity inducement: the ability to impose a negative outcome, emotion or just general state. hers in particular manifests itself as misfortune most times, though it can cause her targets to have feelings such as fear or despair heightened. limitations: she needs to exert this ability or else it starts to affect her well-being -- she becomes anemic, hair starts to fall out, etc etc and she only gets better after inflicting misfortune on someone else.

familiar: her own black cat named jia. jia has seen and studied haera for a while before the two came together. more layers of their bond to be added later.

personality: she is not difficult to be around, but she tends to keep to herself. she does not want to get attached to people, knowing that she might hurt them directly or indirectly. haera feels like an outcast most times and has viewed her ability as a sickness. only in recent months has she begun to operate from a different, more positive pov. on some of her worst days, she purposefully overuses her ability and magic to create chaos around her. her usual mood ranges from worried to apathetic. craves love but knows it might have a dramatic finale. the ones she knows and she is close with are the people she is extremely loyal to.

born into a family of interior designers ( mom, aunt ) and construction workers ( dad, grandfather ), julia has her path crafted for her before she is even born. luck has it that the family's passion runs through her veins too, so she is saved from the struggles of having to fight for her destiny. after a trauma-free, stereotypically californian upbringing, the decision to attend college in south korea is taken to satisfy her urge to try something different.

born on the 18th of march, 1972; a pisces sun with a taurus stellium. anchored in comfort and too grounded for her own good, a paradox when it comes to love: craves intimacy but has a fear of losing it once she has it ( haneul's death did not help much ).

works as an accountant; she finds solace in knowing that there is no room for interpretation when it comes to numbers, especially when her life seems to flow and ebb without certainty.

the deadly hike. that was yura's first ever hike. she is not the type to venture out in nature with the purpose of chasing a thrill. it took a lot of convincing from haneul to get her to join the hike. a part of her hates haneul for it, finding him cruel for inflicting such trauma on her.

personality. yura is kind, non-confrontational, the type to let others speak before she would even dare to comment. a woman of service, one that would break her heart first before ever breaking someone else's. empathetic to a fault. in a constant search of self.

the photographer in charge of shooting behind the scenes content and promotional material; started noticing inexplicable things in her photos during the shooting of the filming.

left to her own devices as a child and given unlimited and unrestricted internet access... aka she was extremely introverted and kind of weird and had 34985934 hobbies and preferred spending time doing those than interacting with other people. plus! she didnt really know how to! thank you, busy family and temporary babysitters!

she kinda learned how to be a functioning human in society when she reached her 20s. howeverrrrrrrrr, she was out on the streets of seoul trying to take pics of car crashes and fights and whatever else she could see people talking about in chat rooms and she alw wanted to be the first one at the scene of the crime.

she has a huuuuuuge portfolio with insaneeeeeee pics and some exec @ sanguine studios fucked with the Shock Value pics and asked her to shoot pics for the movie (in hopes of getting the same eerie vibe) and who was she to say no ...

during the filming of the movie, she satiated her obsession with People by. well. taking even MORE pics of some of the people on set without them knowing. yes, yes, the rumour is true. in the meantime, weird shit started popping up in her pics and she was like WELL... its bc of these weird ass people and their bad energy (said the weird ass girl w the bad energy)

works as a photojournalist thanks to that One exec and is back for the reunion thanks to that One exec, everyone say thank you weird exec.

personality wise, she is... as normal as you can get if you overlook the joe from you tendencies. friendly but on the introverted side of things. will go out on a smoke break with you ig. has mastered the art of being Calm (unless you're touching her camera). struggles w putting herself in other people's shoes. not a party girl, she's just gonna watch from a corner or something... takes stalkery pics of people just bc she's fascinated by The Human Nature and Human Condition and lacks the ability to connect w them even tho she wants it so badddddddddddddddd.
