During my sabbatical last year I reflected on the beautiful "Friendship Icon", painted (or 'written' as they tend to say) in the 8th century. On the right is Jesus and on the left Abbot Mena who probably painted it. This is a musical reflection on this icon - enjoy!
REMEMBERING MY FRIEND RALPH, DRUMMER EXTRAORDINAIRE
Last year we had to say good-bye to my friend Ralf who died of pancreatic cancer. Many years we played together in various bands, including "Oskar". Then life got busy and Edda and I moved to the United Kingdom. In 2015 Ralph re-recorded the drums to some of our songs - just for fun - and sent me the demos. He felt he could improve on what he played on the original recordings. Here is one of them - "Single Case". Because he is playing over the track the drums do of course dominate in the mix. Over-the-top drumming? Maybe. But gloriously rich and energetic! Sadly we never got to play together again after that and then it was too late. I miss him. Today is the day that the Lord has made - let us rejoice and be glad in it.
What a glorious piece to welcome the month of May. Words Christina Rosetti. Music Christopher Tin

A Good Week for Anglo-German Relations
Some years ago I wrote a song in English and in German. I am sharing it here in a good week for Anglo-German relations with King Charles' warm reception during his state visit to Germany. https://music.apple.com/gb/album/jesus-wohin-solln-wir-gehn/401124420?i=401124459

“Meta’s promos show virtual activities that are meant to raise excitement — but they’re universally uninspiring. Holding meetings, attending gigs with friends, playing poker or going for a run ‘outside’. What do these activities have in common? They’re all better without a screen in the way.”

“We are living through weeks which will decide what kind of world we’ll be living in for the next decades.” Manfred Weber, German politician and leader of the European People’s Party in the European Parliament..
Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore we must be saved by hope. Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we must be saved by love. —Reinhold Niebuhr

Jesus Christ, the New Song
In the early 200s, Clement of Alexandria was the first theologian to discover the power of the idea of Jesus as “God’s New Song”. He took the Old Testament idea of a new song (check out Isaiah 42:10; Psalm 33:3) and connected it with New Testament passages such as Hebrews 2.12 and Revelation 5.9 and 14.3.
“Because the Word lately took a name—the name consecrated of old and worthy of power, the Christ, I have called him a New Song. ... He is the only one who ever tamed the most intractable of all wild beasts—human beings. ... See how mighty is the New Song! It has made … humans out of wild beasts. They who were otherwise dead, who had no share in the real and true life, revived when they heard the song. They will dance with angels around the unbegotten and only imperishable and only true God, the Word of God joining us in our hymn of praise.” Clement of Alexandria
I had no idea of the depth of this idea when I wrote “New Songs” some years ago! Here is a recording of it that I put on YouTube 10 years (!) ago. My sister Annette and her husband Ulf had come especially from Germany for the CD launch and recorded the concert on video.

We are celebrating Christoph’s 50/50 today! Exactly 50 percent of his life married to Edda. Thankful for the Maker’s mark in our life every day.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:14)
