The Sophomore/  James x MC

“Oh, I see Reyna! I had an important detail to tell her about the newspaper.  Sorry, MC, I’ll be back in a moment.”

“James, take a breather for one second…”

MC mumbled under her breath, “What the f…” but was interrupted by Zig, “Whoa there.  You’re throwing daggers. What’s going on?"  

"I just haven’t seen MY boyfriend in a while and the first thing he does is run over there.” She motions towards Reyna and James laughing over something.  She rolls her eyes and looks away, frowning.

“You don’t think there’s something going on with them, do you?”

“Do you?”

Zig laughed, “No way. He’s crazy for you.”

“Hmmm…”

“You know him. He’s probably just got work stuff on the brain.  I’m sure they’re talking about something really boring right now.”

“Yeah… I guess,” she answered, but did feel too sure. 

Later in the evening as the party was winding down, MC was wandering around the house looking for James, “Has anyone seen him?"  Those that remained said they hadn’t seen him in quite a while.  Her heart pounded as she continued to search for her boyfriend.  She checked her phone for messages that weren’t there, as her breathing quickened when she realized she hadn’t seen Reyna in a while either.  Surely not… She was just being paranoid.  And so jealous.  What the hell? This wasn’t like her at all and she didn’t like it.  

She decided to head up to her room to get ready for bed and she would text him from there.  After closing the door behind her, she saw him.

James x MC / The Sophomore

James had spent the day evening after his graduation with his parents.  He had asked his girlfriend if she wanted to join them but the look on his mothers face made her cringe and politely decline the offer.  His parents were spending the night in his apartment so MC had a girls night in, but she missed her boyfriend and although she wanted to celebrate his big day, she  settled for a few midnight text messages and a promise to see him the next day. 

“James!” she squealed when he walk in the door.  She jumped off the couch and into his arms, giving him little kissed all over his face. He laughed, hugging her tightly to him, “Hey baby.“  He put her down and together they walked to the couch, where MC had her laptop and some popcorn out on the table.  "Where is everybody?"  He asked looking around the quiet house.  MC raised and lowered her eyebrows impishly, "Just us…. for hours…."  James smiled, pulling her into his arms, kissing her gently.

    You and your friends, Kaitlyn, Zack, Zig are sitting around the dining room table with your guests James and Reyna. Everyone is laughing and having a great time but you can’t stop staring at Reyna.  She’s barely said a word but you can’t help but notice how she looks at James.  You’ve noticed it for the three weeks you’ve been working together.   She’s actually perfect for him in some ways. She’s a genius. She’s quiet and studious. Basically, the opposite of you. She’s so innocent and sweet.  It makes you sick.  

    You hear Zack mention your name and you change your focus, “I’m just glad I got these noise canceling headphones.” Zack and Kaitlyn start wailing and you see James look away shyly but he was laughing too.  

    “What?  What did I miss?”  

    “I was just wondering how I got stuck right next to the honeymoon suite again?” Zack answered between snorts, “but this time, I have my own protection.” He lifts his headphones up out of his bag and everyone is cracking up again.  You sneak a peak over at Reyna who is blushing and seems utterly out of place.

    “Come on guys. You’re making our guest feel uncomfortable.” you rise our of your chair and move towards Zack, whispering in his ear, “but I guess you’re just lucky”.  Kaitlyn overhears and loudly proclaims, “Sounds like MC is the lucky one.”  You and James lock eyes and smile at each other.  He coughs loudly and exclaims, “Well ok, then.  I think it is time we take off. Reyna, are you ready?”  

    “Yes, James. Whenever you are.” Reyna answers quietly, barely above a whisper.  You grab James’ arm and lead him away from the others.  With a sad look in your eye, you mumble, “I thought you were staying here tonight.”  Your voice lowers as you continue, “I’ve got a surprise for you." 

    "Oh, I’m sorry baby. I told Reyna I would take her home and she lives really close to my apartment so it wouldn’t really  make sense to make another trip back.” He kisses you sweetly on the cheek, “but we’ll get together tomorrow, ok?”

    “Well, can I at least talk to you in private for a minute?”

    “Oh. Ok.” He turns to Reyna,“back in a sec."  And of course, instead of actually saying anything, she nods, while standing by the door; jacket in hand.   You stop yourself from rolling your eyes. Your friends have gathers in the living room and are watching TV.  You grab James’ hand and lead him into your bedroom.  You shut the door behind you.

    "So where is the surprise?”
