ā¦I meanā¦give me a good book and I can perch atop a roof and look generally uninviting.

Does anyone know if this is a legit career path? š
"What's my defect?"
Can we talk about Beta?
Sheās possibly the most relatable character in the game at the most uncomfortable level. And Iām not going to pretend I loved her from the jump - on the contrary, when we were first given the chance to talk to her characterā¦I was every bit as let down as Aloy is portrayed.
The short version is, as we learn about Beta - her isolated upbringing, the companionship offered in secrecy and poor intentions, and the unbridled panic sheās given over to- her brand of defeatest was a bit too familiar for comfort.
This scene was the moment that brought her character story home for me. The writing for her breakdown feels real and Ashly Burchās delivery of the scene could have been a memory plucked from anyone whoās -been- in that place.
I am as excited as I can be for the third installment (thatās GUESTAHOPETAMATED for 2027-2031 š) to see how Beta grows in her new environment. Because thereās a zero percent chance that Aloy leaves her incapable of defending herself.
Hell, if I understood Betaās promise to Hephaestus correctly, BETA refuses to remain a non-combatant. And I just -know- that fight is going to be epic.
(Theyāve got the time to make it soā¦)
nora faithful, hold your fruit
Varl and Kotallo may be given the most legendary of story lines, but Erend remains the character I find most endearing on Aloyās team.
Heās a good, dutiful, salt-of-the-earth guy whoās generally trying to do the right thing. Bumbling at times, certainly a bit obtuse and such a GUY that it kills me- this man would have been front row at the monster truck shows.
From the moment we helped him settle the story behind his sisters loss in Zero Dawn, heās had a special place in my heart - heās so many good men that I have the fortune to know.
Once again, I bow to the writing team. Itās such a diverse cast of characters, each handling their difficulties differently, even when they spring from the same source. And this goofy, gruff Osaram is more than deserving of praise - both as the person presented in the narrative, and the character composed of however many minds, notes, and edits that brought such together.
Kotallo is an absolute legend of a character - second only to Varl cuz plot made it so.
But with Varl accounted for, I absolutely adore the character arc weāre given with Kotallo. From meeting this man and all of the venom heās got waiting on his tongue, through plot and the connection that formed, to the point we help him create his prosthetic. And his ultimate decision to represent himself as he is, with the scars heās earned through all heās survived.
I could (and likely will) gush about the absolute masterpiece of storytelling this set of games turned out to be.
Starting with Kotallo. I love this character near as much as I despise Ted Faro.
(Absolutely gorgeous edit of the man in question shared as a visual to go with my appreciation post.)

The CEO will hear no slander against his favorite Ancestor and the Great Renewer, Ted Faro
Ahh. This manās end was as satisfying as it could be - we do love a good bit of beat-you-over-the-head irony
I think you can humanize a villain in a way that makes you hate them more and thatās delicious, actually.
I am strongly of the opinion that the biggest reason Horizon: Zero Dawn got a sequel was because, more than anything else, players wanted Ted Faro to be still alive beyond all reason or plausibility so they could kill him themselves.
I was one of those players. Fuck Ted Faro.
I am absolutely one of those players - this man has replaced Umbridge as one sort of villain I aspire to write.
Everything about the man just gets worse - and the writing and characterization for it is absolutely brilliant.
Fuck Ted Faro.
But BLESS the minds that created him.āØ
Okay, I am so late to this party - Iām always late to these parties. But Iāve been working my way through Black Clover with a friend, and there are so many amazing characters that Iāve enjoyed throughout the story, but I hadnāt yet found one that I just LOVED for the series.
And then Mereoleona happened.
I liked her immediately upon meeting - episode 70 was a solid introduction to her character, and episode 91 gives us the absolute SICKEST fight from her.
The show as a whole runs a āgrit and determination in the face of hopeless oddsā theme, so itās not as though there arenāt other characters who show her brand of resilience. But something about hers is particularly inspiring for me.
Sheās one of the fiercest fighters in the show with an excellent heart and deep concern for those in her sphere: with a āLEARN TO FISH, CUZ IāM NOT DOING IT FOR YOUā flavor.
ā¦you also might die while sheās teaching you to fishā¦š¤£
I really, really want to cosplay her character. Bonus points, both of her main costumes seem relatively simple to construct.
(Give me a month, and Iām gonna eat that assumption)
A person can never measure up to an ideal, and I think thatās why they always assume youāll be taller in real life.
Why is it always height they default to?

The Hemlock Queen by Hannah Whitten
Was reminded of this post today, and really wish more people had gotten into this book. I have thoughts on the story - I always do šš¤£- but enjoyed it overall.
I need to make that my next āOn the shelfā seriesā¦even if Iām nearly out of spaceā¦
Meh, I can offload some of the dark romance. Itās not hitting like it used to. š«¤
But maybe thatās a good sign?š¤š¤£
Anyway. Pretty picture and more people need to read The Foxglove King.āØ
Word of advice on booking venues for a celebration of lifeā¦
Wait until the individual has actually passed. Sometimes they make it through - but venues will almost never give you your deposit back if they can avoid it.
ā¦justā¦something to consider when planning such events.

ā¦but Iām so very good at it. š¤£š¤£
Naw, but itās super not great for the brain space, so go easy folks.
ā¦starting to notice a lot of the āthinkersā Iāve been listening to via YT and podcasts are ābenign/kind/gentle patriarchyā coded. Itās crazy what unpacking early training is allowing me to see these days.
If I hear one more word about my ānurturing hormoneā or my āsocietal predisposition and duty to spend my life caring for othersā the speaker (person or device) is gonna learn how very nurturing Iām not when cornered. š
ā¦it sucks seeing that folks you respected have been undermining the whole time - and a good reminder that you donāt KNOW folks unless you actually know folks. Ya know?
