Hedgehogs are nocturnal creatures. They come at during the evening and night to eat.

Hedgehogs are one of the greatest insect eaters. Hedgehogs are easily recognized by their spines. They have a lot of them between seven and eight thousand. The spines are also called quills and are between 15 and 25 mm long. The also shed spines every 18 months, this is called quilling. New spines replace them. The head, throat, chest and belly of the Hedgehog are covered with a thin coat of long rough hair. The coat colour is yellow or greyish brown or dark brown. Along his spine the hedgehog has muscles that can contract. This allows him to roll into a ball when he is in danger.

Hedgehogs have a pointy nose and small ears that are covered by hair. It has small black beads eyes that are on either side of his head. He has very poor eyesight, but he can distinguish colours. The hedgehog has a very good smell and hearing. they can smell insect that are 3 cm underground.

They are everywhere during Halloween.

They are called Jack-O’-Lantern. They are carved out diabolic faces and you place a candle inside so they are lit up. The first Jack-O’-Lantern was made of turnips in Old England. They were carved after Wil-O’-the-whisp. Wil-O’-the-whisp are ghost like lights that you can see at night near a lake or pond.
