WHAT DO THEY DO, WHERE DO THEY EXIST, WHAT EVEN ARE THEY???
well i cant give you everything, now can i? Itll leave no platypus mystery for everyone else to ask!!
I can, however, give you the basics (and a fun fact or two!)
The platypus (ornithorhyncus anatinus is their latin name) comes from (eastern) Australia (because of course it does) and is found in mainly freshwater bodies of water such as lakes and rivers. Its mostly nocturnal, choosing to be active during the night and staying in the burrows it lives in during the day. Fun fact about their burrows, the entrance is only big enough to fit the platypus and is used to drain excess water from their fur when they squeeze through
When it hunts it closes its eyes and ears to become mostly deaf and blind, then relies on the 40,000 electroreceptors it has in its bill to detect muscle movement from prey such as shrimp. Fun fact, the hunting patterns that platypodes take up is similar to that of a shark's.
To not bore you to death with basic things like hunting patterns and habitat, ill finish this ask with one of my favourite platypus facts;
They, along with echidnas, are the only animals that are monotremes, meaning that they are mammals that lay eggs :]
