My favorite thing about Gerard remains how painfully earnest they are at every turn. They have never been ironic or unserious about a single thing. It’s why it all works. Sure there’s a wink and a nod here or there but My Chemical Romance has never been *ironic.* they know they can be goofy and over the top and sometimes they at least seem to be saying “yeah ha ha we know” but never for a moment has it been anything less than 100% earnest and heartfelt.
