The question marks are there because I still have trouble telling apart or remembering the male characters as I only really only saw them in the ballroom scene.
This was the best night I’ve had at the McKittrick in a while, perhaps because I haven’t visited in a while and so much of the cast were in new roles for me.
The highlight of this trip was seeing Taylor Drury’s Sexy Witch. I really loved her cold and graceful Lady MacBeth and I think I first saw her as Danvers over a year ago, so I was really excited to see her take on my favorite character. She has an intimidating iciness to her dancing that I think is helped by her height and general modelesque looks and her Sexy Witch came off as especially cold and ruthless. I got her 1:1, and I’ve only had that particular 1:1 with Evelyn Chen and Emily Oldak. The little differences between them are interesting to note. Taylor took a long swig of liquor while I sat at the vanity, which I don’t remember the other ones doing.
I also finally saw Ginger Kearns’ Matron and hear her real (?) accent. Her Matron and Nurse pairing with Andrea Farley Shimota was especially striking. Ginger seemed so world weary and wise whereas Andrea looked so young and innocent and pale. I followed her for a bit and got her second 1:1, and I really liked her haunting take on it.
A funny thing happened right before Agnes’ 1:1, when a girl just came up from the side of everyone who were waiting to be chosen and just inserted herself into the open doorway and went in without Agnes even picking her and Ida Saki just went with it. The rest of the us standing there just laughed.
I’m probably not going to see the show again for a while, so it was especially bittersweet. It’s really nice to have your love for the show rekindled. And I’m really happy that they’ve been switching up the cast and roles more often than before. The reason why I keep coming back is to see favorite performers in different roles, which is something that just doesn’t happen in other shows.
