For those who are confused about aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, these pictures are a good reference.

Aperture opens the lens. The more open the lens is, the brighter your image and the deeper the depth of field.

Shutter speed is how long the lens is open for. The longer the lens is open, the more light is let in and the blurrier the image.

This went very nicely last year, so we’re going to do it again! :)

definitely don’t use a smartphone if at all possible

whatever you do don’t use this nifty free app called voice record pro 7 or VRP7 in the app store

for fucks sake don’t use the preset high quality setting or go to the advanced tab and max out your bitdepths and rate etc

please don’t take into account your distance from the stage/orchestra/speakers and adjust your input level accordingly so your mic isn’t overblown

in the name of jesus of nazareth don’t just turn the app on, set your phone on airplane mode, lock the screen, and set it lightly between your legs or another inconspicuous uncovered area 

even if its life or death don’t make sure that what you’re doing is not a potential distraction to fellow theater goers or people trying to do their jobs

especially don’t convert the file to an mp3 directly on itunes

most importantly don’t share your not-awesome contribution with a lot of folk who’ll be very un-appreciative of your work and may even trade you other illegal audios in return when possible
