The cutest, happiest kid on a Monday
There is the crocodile eating the sausage! - Stella, 3.5 years old, every time she drives past the sign.
"I *really* want to save that pillow. " in reference to a pillow she has seen exactly twice, as we drop it off at Goodwill. Crying ensues.

Hi Nana Natly (and other random friends and family that actually read this) - have been super busy (read: lazy) moving family and dog across the world and being pregnant, have forgotten to post in, oh, I don’t know,...forever!! So, trying to pick this up again, especially as we begin the last month as a family of three.
Seems super weird to Chris and I that we’ll have two humans following us around, but we will and we are ready. I’m nearly 36 weeks done and I’m hopeful that baby girl picks a day in early May to make her debut.
It’s been a harder pregnancy, healthy, but harder - you don’t get as much rest with a 3 year old and I think the insomnia from stress was a real challenge. I’ve been sleeping MUCH better lately, but now I’m in the throes of discomfort (and peeing) so, trying to get bits and bobs of rest when I can through out the day.
I’m throwing in a few pics from lately that make me smile. Hopefully they do the same for you. Sending love from (mostly) sunny California! xx
From the top it’s Easter weekend walk, making breakfast cheekiness, and a great belly kiss (~23 weeks). Love my girl!

Few pics from lately, summer and parties and birthdays, oh my!
Happy Fourth of July from my two girls to you!!
A few pictures from lately. We had a three day weekend and we basically were out and about. This weekend we have been closer to home, but trying to get some QT. Chris and I ducked out for a date night, Stella enjoyed a pizza with our nanny, and as it was half term, will be excited to get back to school next week!
Definitive list of whales, ranked.
Right Whale: It has an upside-down head — a bold move that pays off.
Sperm Whale: Has a silly name but really excels in all areas of being a whale: staying underwater, fighting squid, spraying sonar around the sea, looking like an ocean bus. Having teeth rather than baleen means not having to eat krill.
Narwhal: Sea unicorn that has ocean sword fights. Slightly less cool when you realize its horn is actually a big tooth, making it the whale version of this.
Orca: Doesn’t look anything like the other whales and hangs out around the Pacific Northwest, so it’s basically the hipster whale. Eats real food like seals rather than krill. Was in Free Willy, but, then again, was in Free Willy. Kind of an asshole, but you can’t argue with success. Secret shame: actually a dolphin.
Humpback Whale: Basic canonical whale. Has good press. Bit too mainstream, really.
Beluga Whale: Ongoing experiment in whether white privilege applies to cetaceans.
Blue Whale: Coasting on its size; must try harder.
Gray Whale: Blue whale that’s smaller and more boring.
Minke Whale: Kinda puny for a whale.
Fin Whale: Second biggest animal in the world, i.e. the first loser. Described by Roy Chapman Andrews as the “greyhound of the sea,” and we all know what Captain Hank Murphy of Sealab said about greyhounds. (”Too pointy.”)
Beaked whale: You are not a bird, please reconsider your choices.
Pilot Whale: Dolphin with ideas above its station.
I may disagree with some of the particulars of these results but I can’t fault the methodology
This amuses me and had to share because...whales.
April Update: 33 months
My goodness has she grown up SO much the past few months. I can’t believe her friends are turning 3 and SHE WILL BE THREE SOON. Sheesh. So, here is what our 33 month old girl is up to:
Newest tricks:
Telling everyone she is ‘two and a HALF’.
Waving and greeting - she is incredibly friendly in the neighbourhood or whenever it’s not on demand. Delivery man or random guy on street? She practically screams hello and waves.
‘Reading’ her books to us – it’s adorable and she is so focused and honestly gets so much of it right. Our little sponge!
She is a counting machine – unaided to 20, with a nudge to 30+.
A is for Apple, P is for poop, D is for Daddy and dog – Stella knows her ABC’s and is really connecting her words.
Knowing her full name, our names, and everyone else’s parents’ names J
Conversations – she fills you in on her day and asks about yours!
Keeping her pants (mostly) dry and clean - still rusty and sporadic successes, but we’re getting there.
Favorite phrase(s):
Want to come with me?
Of course!
Don’t worry!
Pick me up…
I’m two and a HALF!
I love you, too. (said after she says ‘I love you.’ Then you say ‘I love you too’, then she says ‘I love you too’. A lot of love)
Stella Elizabeth Wallace. (full stop)
Favorite color:
She still loves green and now understands ‘favourite’ so therefore we hear a lot about green. She does like pink and purple as well, based on what she chooses.
Favorite friends (furry and human):
Stella and Lola have a special friendship – they act like sisters and you can see how Stella is the younger…pulling and pushing and playing, trying to keep up. Stella will giggle and shriek when Lola plays tug or fetches toys. Lola will look at us when Stella does something a bit rough…we are ringmasters.
She keeps a steady rotation of ‘friends’ and isn’t particularly partial to any one right now: small (T-Rex) to large (Hugless Douglas), young/new (cats) and old (Lenny the monkey). For her human friends, she is still playing with Nikolai, Tali, Blake, Isla, Lennie, and Rafe. We have a new neighbour whose daughter Madison just turned 3 and the girls like each other. At nursery school, she seems to favour a boy called Arthur. I’ve also heard about Eloise (who doesn’t share toys) but not sure she’s a ‘friend’.
What keeps her busy:
She is super affectionate, and very much ‘just like us’. She loves to cuddle and hug and kiss and rub your arm, hold your hand. She is always looking for ways to do something together. She is quick to jump under a blanket or sit on your lap with a book. When she isn’t with us, she loves spending time with Roxana, going about her day.
Reading is still a favorite pastime, last night I read 4 Fancy Nancy books. FOUR. Then we read a good night story while she was IN her bed and left her with a Pinkalicious book so she could ‘read’ it after lights out. Our bathroom has become a bookshelf so she can read (or be read to) on the potty. We just gave her ‘Room on the Broom’ for Easter and it’s definitely a new favorite (shout out for ALL Julia Donaldson books). I love rhyming books and I think she does too J
The other thing I love is that she reinvents books for herself. She wants to find the spider in the Little Critter book, or connect the mommies to the kids in ‘Goat goes to playgroup’, sometimes we initiate these, but other times it’s all her and her understanding and curiousity.
She is enjoying movies a lot too - we’ve been slowly introducing Disney classics: The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled and Cinderella are all well liked and frequently requested. She likes the animals and the songs, though is partial to Belle/Beauty.
Where she spends her time:
Stella loves the library and the park, she enjoys school on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s. There is a playgroup (for £1!) that is on Monday’s and Thursday’s that she enjoys – they do cool things like ‘have oranges and cucumber for snack’ and ‘play with baby chicks’ and ‘blankets outside’ (read: parachute). She often regales me with stories of kids who don’t share or try to play with Tigger or how many baby buggies they have. I get FULL reports and I love it.
Favorite outfits:
A girl after my own heart, she likes dresses and comfy pants. Ha! She also is VERY attached to her Uggs. (she can spell that too!) We’ve started naming things like ‘party shoes’ and ‘cold day jacket’. Giving her choices definitely moves the process along. She doesn’t entirely care about what she is wearing but she is sure and clear about what she will NOT wear. Like stiff jeans and socks. She is anti-sock.
Foods:
Right now, she still loves pasta, broccoli, sweet potatoes, yogurt, ‘chips’/French fries, biscuits, chocolate. The other, newer interests are:
Ham and cheese sandwiches
Chili – she mentioned this was her ‘favorite food’ one day, to my surprise.
Meatballs
Hummus paired with anything (carrots, cucumbers, grapes)
Parmesan cheese
She still loves fruit and dislikes red peppers and anything resembling ‘salad’.
My favorite moments this week:
Watching her open a box full of Spring clothes from Zara – her face and her gentleness with the clothes was adorable. She carefully folded each one
Hunting Easter eggs – she was genuinely surprised and pleased with each discovery. Magical, just like Christmas.
Taking a bath together – maybe it’s strange, maybe not. I don’t really care, she asked me so I hopped in and we had fun playing letters and comparing toenail polish colors.
6:15pm April 8 & April 9 – watching Stella and Chris play football in the garden; she made sure I’d watch each kick from the kitchen.
When she told me I made a ‘very good dinner’
After tucking her in, when she wrapped her arms around me and said ‘you’re trapped’ in a big hug. Sigh.
We can’t get enough of her, excited to see what the next three months (the last few months of TWO) will bring. Hopefully drier pants. Ha.

Easter weekend in a post: chocolate, neighbourhood walks, cooking, eating, chocolate, play dates, bathroom mishaps, more chocolate, asparagus, a very sunny Sunday and Monday, park time, Disney movies, and poop.
Picked her up from school, after scooting and learning about shapes, counting and naval battles, she fell promptly to sleep.
Happy Mother's Day in Britain - love my girl, my husband for making a great day, and thankful for a great Sunday with our family.
"Look, it’s not that hard if you make your expectations clear. I just say, ‘Listen up, elite squad of toddler housekeepers - You’re going to clean this kitchen top to bottom while I drink coffee that is still hot. I’m timing you, so chip chop!"
I just find this so funny. I'm crying.
A lovely spring day in London - we could get used to this!!

A fun and very full week in CA, sorry have been so behind in posting but here are a few pictures!!
This week, a big one for Stella
We had some good laughs yesterday, thought I'd share a few...
Generally while I'm cooking, Chris and Stella play in the kitchen. Last night as we were catching up, Stella said she would 'set the table'. She took 4 cups from her drawer and was gone for awhile. She comes back and says it's all set. Then, she sees the bread on the counter. Of course she asks for some, Chris gets a knife and she says 'I have a knife, I'll go get it' and disappears to her kitchen. Behind the scenes, we cut the bread. She comes back with her wooden knife from her kitchen...Chris 'uses' it, gives her some bread. She is very pleased that she could help, we commend her helpfulness. She offers to let him keep the knife.
After dinner is ready, we collectively go into the dining room. Daddy Bear (Oscar) is sitting in her seat with a plate and cup. There are cups for everyone on the table and any additional guests who may arrive. I try to move Stella to her seat. 'NO. I want to sit here' (which is my seat). So then I try to sit in the seat currently occupied by Daddy Bear. 'No, momma, that's Daddy Bear's seat.' So I suggest that Daddy Bear sit in the green (high) chair, so he can actually see his food. 'No, he needs to sit there.' So, I was ousted from my seat by a stuffed bear.
Later that night, Chris and I were in hysterics (more so me, but anyway) because Daddy Bear was still at the table, eating his good dinner.
She also gave us a tiny tidbit of her school day 'We played outside, we came in, then Miss Caroline read us a story.'
Which story, we asked.
'I don't know' she said.
So far, the toddler bed has been an easy transition. She did play around a bit last night after we'd tucked her in, but what can you do? She is sleeping through the night and she isn't falling out, so I consider these all successes. Of course, Chris and I are very proud of her. It's amazing to be proud of people who sleep in their own bed, but I'm sure you get it.
Lastly, we are attempting to potty train starting tomorrow (!!!). The weekend is surely to be a bit messy, a bit frustrating, but hopefully at least moderately successful. Wish us luck.
xx
