Anatomical Venus III : Apotheosis
This is somewhat removed from the original anatomical inspiration. But this series represents a progression for me: a journey from the flesh, to the shedding of it. I hoped that within this labyrinth of veins, I would find divinity in repose.
Light Catcher, oil on linen, 2012 by Hélène Béland

LA BELLE ET LA BÊTE 1946, dir. Jean Cocteau
I've said this before and I'll say it again: it's more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It's performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.
This is ultimately why propaganda is going to work on you. Because you never learned how to think for yourself and the actual ideology behind things. You simply rely on group think and the bare minimum explanations to tell you what's good and bad.

I really do bristle when ppl talk derogatorily about ppl "getting information from podcasts and YouTube" as if those mediums are inherently bankrupt of intellectual rigour. It's a sentiment that implies other mediums of, let's call it, non-fiction information like books, academia, journalism, documentary, etc are always intellectually sound and rigorous. As if there aren't textbooks in schools at this very moment riddled with historical or scientific inaccuracies, for example. As if there aren't 100s, if not 1000s of well known informational books, academic articles, documentaries, published works of journalism, even whole fields of study etc that are also at times profoundly lacking in intellectual rigour and disinforming. All fields and modes of information communication are riddled with errors, with actors seeking to misinform and disinform, institutional and social bias, etc. some more than others, yes. There are absolutely many a clown masquerading as bastians of knowledge across social media. But it's not the medium that's the issue because there is no medium free of pollution by misinformation, disinformation, and bias. If someone tells me they like learning from YouTube and podcasts, the next question I ask is "which ones?" because there's a world of difference between an information diet made up of Joe Rogan and My Favourite Murder, and ConspiracyTube and an information diet made of Academic/ News podcasts. Even then, I don't think anyone who cares about being informed and learned should put all their eggs in any one informational basket and should engage in a wide and varied information diet. The notion of "misinformation slop" being new and exclusively found in community based forms of communication is so laughable. Not every mode of information communication is made equal, sure, but even with gatekeepers they're all equally susceptible to Bad Data, disinformation, bias of all kinds, misinformation, and good old fashioned human error. Not to mention accessibility, institutional or otherwise, impacts the mode of information ppl engage with in a myriad of ways too. All of this to say that the mode and medium of information ppl primarily engage with is not automatically an indication of that individual's media literacy, nor is any medium exempt from information pollution, and to treat it as such is, ironically, more an indicator of one's own lack of intellectual curiosity and rigour.
“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”
