City of Libertas

Hey guys, gals and non-binary pals. . . 

As we’r sure you’ve all noticed, the main has been getting quieter again as of late and it’s because we’ve been doing some deep thinking. This roleplay was started out of dissatisfaction with other atmospheres the mods had been in, and the want for something better. We truly do feel that we created a welcoming and safe space. We’re so appreciative of anyone who’s ever joined us, regardless of how long they stayed with us for - and especially grateful for anyone who’s been with us since the start!

Unfortunately, regardless of a revamp, we feel like we just didn’t quite have enough juice to get the engine fully started (for lack of a better description). While we’re happy with the space we created, we feel that everyone deserves a space where they have endless opportunities for interaction and always feel like there’s someone there to roleplay and brainstorm ideas with. Libertas just hasn’t become that kind of place! This is obviously not anyone’s fault. 

Roleplaying is a competitive space and we’re so grateful for the 16 months it’s been going. We’re hopeful that you all go on to find other spaces where your creative muscles can be flexed even more! 

So it’s hard to say but from today, Libertas will be closing.

We’ll trim the discord down to only the #general chat so that people are able to chat, exchange details, and talk about where you can all still roleplay with each other. Then, in a week, we’ll be closing that too.

We welcome Hans Westergård to the city. He’s 28 years old and is an prince/politician. Hans is often mistaken for Sam Claflin. He’s open.

→ Background Information

Royals in Denmark, the Westergård family are almost forgotten among distance countries and to some extent even their own people. Never fully adored like some of their neighboring countries, the royal family was often kept for appearance sake and tradition. With tradition, came big families. Born the youngest of thirteen sons, Hans was over looked and invisible to his family from birth. With his brother’s all gathering titles that ranged from: airs to the throne, military captains, scholars, Hans was always hidden among the shadows of his brothers achievements. No matter what he accomplished, it was always less than because one prior to him achieved it first. Nothing was ever his own to hold, something he slowly grew to resent. The king and queen hadn’t planned for a thirteenth child, something his older brothers regularly enjoying reminding him of; that he was nothing more than a ‘mistake’. Despite his ill treating, he still finds himself seeking approval from his family and brothers. Wanting to prove everything they said about him wrong, he seeks to benefit himself in ways the others couldn’t even imagine.

→ Relocation Explanation

When it became apparent that Hans was never going to advance within his own countries monarchy and democracy, he decided to take it upon himself to find opportunities within neighboring countries. Norway quickly caught his eye. With the newly appointed Queen, it was difficult not to be curious about the aloof monarch and naive princess who often took her place at social events. His interest was peaked and after meeting them at Elsa’s coronation, it became quite clear to him how he could snake his way into power. With the current political unease within Norway, Hans has seen it as an opportunity and to take advance of the situation as much as he can. Hoping to gain rank and a hopeful permanent position within their government - or better yet the monarchy itself. He has followed after Elsa and Anna, vowing to ‘protect’ the princesses at all costs, much to the thanks of the Norwegian government and the younger Aredenelle sister. Little do they know of his more cunning plans.

→ Living Situation

Living comfortably alone in a rooftop apartment in the higher end of town, Hans has made himself quite the bachelor pad. A home away from a place that never fully felt like home, he is revelling in the new found freedom Libertas has provided. Granted when he isn’t using him whims to try and woo one of the Norwegian royal’s, he uses his home as a getaway from the ‘hardships of politics’. Which has been known to include socializing at local bars/clubs and entertaining the odd female friend away from prying eyes.

Adaptable, Hans can easily assess the situation and environment he is in and mould himself accordingly. Fitting the people around him to make them feel as comfortable and understood as possible; his natural charm and handsome looks make it easy for people to trust him even if his intentions are less than virtuous.

→ Her Relationships

Elsa Árnadalr (Acquaintance & potential enemy) : Hans still knows very little about the isolated queen, she is known to be aloof in the media, however it wasn’t until meeting her that he became fully aware of how cold the woman could actually be. Though he know that getting closer to Elsa would be the easier way into the good rankings of government, trying to get into her good graces seems near impossible.

Anna Árnadalr (Potential love interest): Even from their first meeting, Anna has made her attraction to Hans quite apparent. Though he can’t help but find her slightly charming, he has definitely noting that she is the weaker link of the two sisters and much easier to sway in his favor.

Lucas Farquaad (Friend): Having met when Hans went to his winery, the pair found themselves having similar traits which led to a friendship to form easily. Though they haven’t known each other for long, Hans is considering in sharing his secrets with the other; knowing Lucas would see it quite easily through his eyes.

→ Possible Connections

Donovan Donahue (Acquaintance): Over hearing the other male talking at a bar, Han’s ears couldn’t help but prick up with interest. Donovan can talk his way around anyone and Hans is more than happy to listen to anything the other has to say. Especially if it came to town politics and getting to know the ins and outs with casual conversation.

Drizella Tremaine (Friends with Benefits): Having met through a social gathering, the two ended up slipping away together at the end of the night. Something that soon became a regular pattern, sure there aren’t any feelings involved but who says they can’t have a good time in each other’s company?

We welcome Jack Dawson to the city. He’s 26 years old and is a con man. Dodger is often mistaken for Douglas Booth. He’s open.

→ Background Information

Jack Dawson was ditched on the doorstep of a care home for kids age 6. The reality of the situation didn’t settle in until a month had passed by and Mommy and Daddy still weren’t coming back to pick him up. The system wasn’t exactly friendly to Jack. He was just a number to them. It ended up being that if Jack needed money for school stuff, he’d earn it himself. What started out as a simple talent for swiping from other kids or selling stuff on the playground, developed into a talent for swiping wallets from strangers on streets or even conning the money out of them. While it was risky, young Jack would much rather risk that than deal with the bullies who humiliated him for wearing worn out shoes and sweaters with holes in.

→ Relocation Explanation

There was absolutely no chance of Jack attending college. He instead got a dead end job in a restaurant upon turning 18 and sub-let a single room in a dodgy area. For the next couple of years, he moved from illegal sub-let to illegal sublet. The more he moved, the less able he was to get proper jobs. The continuous job and location changes don’t exactly look good to potential employers. So, Jack instead started picking up cash-in-hand jobs and returned to his childhood trade of theft and conning. Eventually he ran out of options of places to sub-let in his home city. He knew all along it’d happen one day. So, Jack was forced to look further afield. After learning about a brand new city, Jack figured it’d be the perfect place to set up shop as it was more likely he’d have less competition on the streets.

→ Living Situation

Thanks to Jack’s less-than-legal entering of the city, Jack couldn’t go through the formal procedure to get a place. He was used to doing things off the books though so it wasn’t long before he found Fagin, who was looking for people to fill a house. Jack was actually the first one to move in. His room is also probably the messiest in the house. He has little cares, and little time, to waste on simply keeping his room tidy - Especially when all he uses the room for really is sleeping. Rita tries to get him to keep on top of it but she’s little luck. He does occasionally help with tidying around the house but that’s only because he knows he’ll get it in the neck from Rita if he doesn’t.

→ His Personality

They don’t come more charming than Jack Dawson. He could probably charm his way out of a parking fine if he wanted. Even when he gets caught conning, Jack is able to dodge his way out of being reported to the police. This is how he earned his nickname Dodger. These constant wins however have meant that Jack has grown to become quite arrogant and cocky over the years. Dodger really thinks he is the bee’s knees. He’s also not very good at listening to what other people have to say. Once he’s mind is set on something, that’s that. Jack can fly off the handle quite easily if challenge. The only other thing that annoys Jack that much is disloyalty. At the first glimpse of someone even so much as considering giving up on him or leaving, he shuts them out before they can do the same to him.

Oliver Twist (Friend): Oliver and Jack met out and about in Libertas after Oliver was mistaken for a thief (when it had actually been Jack who had swiped the mans wallet). He wasn’t interested in getting to know the kid to begin with but Oliver’s persistence eventually wore Jack down. Now, Oliver is somewhat of a little brother to Jack. He teaches him everything he knows - For example, how to swipe a wallet without being caught.

Solomon Fagin (Landlord & housemate): Fagin expected payment within moments of Jack moved in and of course, he was happy to get to work. Dodg didn’t mind all that much. Even outside of rent costs, Jack is happy to lend a hand to Fagin. The guy really isn’t all that bad and they actually get on quite well. This is why, whenever Fagin is stressed about money, Jack is usually the one to talk him down and make him a drink.

Rita Morales (Best friend & housemate): While Jack absolutely never lets on how much he cares about Rita, he couldn’t imagine a world without her. They immediately hit it off when they first moved into the house.  Regardless of what the day has bought them, you’ll usually catch them updating each other on their lives over a bottle of tequila.

Willian Einstein, Francis Einstein & Ignacio de Tito (Friends & housemates): It’d be wrong to say that Jack didn’t enjoy being in a house of, majority, lads. Everyone is fun in their own way. Dinnertime with everyone is never boring. Obviously they are still getting used to each other, and Jack is slowly introducing each of them to the fun that is conning. Maybe there’s even one or two things he’s learning from them.

→ Possible Connections

Georgette Foxworth (Acquaintance): It’s always interesting when Oliver invites Jack over to his. The household couldn’t be more different from his own. Dodger has already realised that Oliver’s aunt Georgette is quite the flappable woman. So, naturally, Jack has some fun when he visits.

Jennifer Foxworth (Acquaintance): After meeting Jennifer, it isn’t hard to see how Oliver has ended up how he is - regardless of where he came from. She’s incredibly kind and friendly. But, that doesn’t mean that Jack isn’t still baffled by the idea of actual parenting and rules etc.

Roscoe Dobermann & Miguel de Soto (Enemies): Jack is always more than happy to lend a hand to Fagin and getting involved with Fagin means dealing with the bad stuff. Unfortunately, Solomon has some very bad people after him. Dodger is doing all he can to make sure they don’t end up with Roscoe and Miguel on their doorstop.

We welcome Manfred Chordate to the city. He’s 35 years old and is a builder. Manny is often mistaken for Sinqua Walls. He’s open.

→ Background Information

Manny did everything right. His family had been based in the same village for generations. In fact, one of his ancestors helped with building some of the very first houses that make up the village. After finishing school, he left the village to go to college and then came back to marry his high-school love and then they had a beautiful little girl together. His life was perfect. Then everything started to go down-hill. While out on a job one day, he discovered that multiple villages in the are, including his own, were going to be knocked down. Manny was understandably outraged. Between jobs he started to join protests to fight the decision. There were lie-downs on constructions sites and signs all over the area. Unfortunately though, nothing worked.

→ Relocation Explanation

Much to his wife’s dismay, Manny wanted to remain in the valley. He’d been there his entire life and he wasn’t about to give it up for some make-over. He didn’t want to risk moving. What if he didn’t like a new village? What if he struggled to meet anyone new? There were a lot of heated arguments between him and his wife which eventually resulted in his wife deciding that she was going to move elsewhere whether Manfred liked it or not. So, they split and he was left behind. His family all left and his home was destroyed. Despite all the years of hard work, with the building of Libertas, Manny’s entire life was back to square one.

→ Living Situation

Now unable to afford to live alone, Manfred shares a house with friends Diego and Sid. The dynamic in the house is very different from the one that he had with his wife and daughter. Although in some way, Manny still plays that father figure. He finds himself having to remind Diego to not be as cruel, and remind Sid to tidy up after himself. When he first moved in, Manny had pictures of his previous life up in his house. His wife may have left but he’d still loved her. Feelings like that didn’t just disappear like that. Over the time though, Manfred came to realize that his past was his past. There was no way he’d be able to move on properly if he clung on to what had already happened. So now, his room looks clean and fresh. He keeps up pictures of his daughter

→ His Personality

People have always joked that Manny was always ready to be a father. He’s always been pretty grumpy, told bad jokes, been pessimistic and taken every opportunity to make a funny or sarcastic comment. On the other end o the scale however, he’s also always been extremely selfless, caring, and done his absolute best to make those he loved happy. He does sometimes have a habit of thinking he knows what is best for someone though. If he thinks it’s the right thing, he’ll make decisions on people’s behalf. This is something he is aware he does and so is trying to learn to not do that. He’s just incredibly overprotective and is incredibly aware of how cruel the world can be.

Diego Gracilis (Best friend): Manny first met Diego when he was sent to control the protestors. The pair butted heads initially. However, when Diego actually started listening to when Manny had to say, he realized that they actually agreed. The men then ended up bumping into each other in a bar, while Diego was off-shift. This was when they started to actually bond. At their cores, the men both have very similar values in life which is probably why they get along so well. Plus, Manny needs someone he can rant to about whatever stupid thing Sid has done that that.

Sidney Pilosa (Best friend): In typical Sid-fashion, he wasn’t looking where he was walking and walked straight into Manny. That’s how the pair initially. They were both taking part in the protests to try and save the valley. Despite being from different villages, everyone was really pulling together to try and do what they could. It was only after repeatedly meeting each other during protests that Manny decided to cave and start talking to the guy. Sid’s idiocy put Manny off him at first, but now he finds it quite endearing. Manny wishes he could be as blind to the world. He images he’d certainly be a lot happier than he is.

→ Possible Connections

Toulouse Bonfamille (Friend): As the pair work in the same sort of industry, it’s very likely that Toulouse and Manny have crossed paths at some point. Both men are incredibly family orientated and will stop at no end to protect the ones though love, so they’d probably see eye-to-eye on a lot of things.

Ken Summers (Acquaintance): To make sure that he’s in top shape, Manfred is a regular now at the local gym. This is probably where he’d bump into someone like Ken, who is a massive gym-freak. Whether they got along or don’t - It could very easily go either way.

Simon Catbe (Acquaintance): Simon is another person who has lived in the valley most of his life, and even stayed there during the construction. He’s quite quiet though and isn’t particularly a fan of confrontation. So while the pair probably didn’t cross paths during the protests, it’s very likely they may well still have crossed paths at some point.

We welcome Terkina Bishop to the city. She’s 23 years old and is a personal trainer. Terk is often mistaken for Yara Shahidi. She’s open.

→ Background Information

The only way for Terk to beat her five older brothers was to join them. She was arguably the loudest voice in the household from the moment she was born. While some tried to tell Terkina that it wasn’t appropriate for a young lady to be so boisterous and loud, Terk’s family always told her that they were wrong. She was brought up to believe that she could be anything, do anything she set her mind to.

→ Relocation Explanation

One of Terk’s favourite things in the world is adventure. She did as much as she could in her home city bur over the years, she started to realise that she’d pretty much got everything covered. So when Tarzan said that he wanted to move, she knew that this was her chance. Obviously she wouldn’t want her cousin to go alone anyway but this was her opportunity to have a completely brand new adventure. Aside from the hunger for new adventure, Terkina knew there was some things at home that Tarzan needed to leave the behind. Terk and Tantor both decided to head with Tarzan to live in the new American city of Libertas. 

→ Living Situation

Since the age of 18, Terk and Tantor have been living together and they saw no valid reason to bring that streak to an end. It was comfortable, and it was happy. There were no faults in their situation. So when they moved to Libertas, again, they found a place together. Despite sharing the space, Terkina is the one who decorates most of it. She just has very specific tastes and thankfully Tantor is happy to let her take the lead. The majority of the home is pretty cosy but when it comes to her bedroom, she decided to create her own palace. Terkina isn’t very girly but she has a very fancy bedroom - Think industrial, modern, rose golds, exposed wires, brooding colours.

→ Her Personality

Terkina may look friendly but don’t let her looks deceive you. She has a hell of a bite. This woman does not take any crap from anyone. She would fight tooth and nail for her nearest and dearest without so much as blinking. They are worth the entire planet to her. When she’s not grilling someone for being an asshole, she’s likely out there causing trouble. She doesn’t sit well with rules. She doesn’t like being restrained. Boxes are for books. There’s nothing Terk loves more than exploring, especially with cousin Tarzan. They have matching daring spirits just searching for that next big great discovery.

Tarzan Bishop (Friend & cousin): Tarzan was welcomed into the family when Terk was young, so she never really blinked an eyelid about him being adopted in. As far as she was concerned, he was a new potential friend. That’s exactly what happened. Aunt Kala kept Tarzan in more than they’d have liked when he was younger which was incredibly frustrating for both of them, but over the years he was able to play out more and more. The pair are very close now, which is nice for the rest of the family to see. Terk doesn’t care what anyone says about Tarzan - He is a Bishop.

Tantor Penn (Best friend & roommate): In classic unapologetic Terk style, she had no qualms about stepping up and stopping kids from bullying a lone Tantor. She didn’t know him at the time, but they’ve been best friends ever since. It actually works out quite well as while they’re very different people, they’re similar enough to get along and to balance each other out. Terk pushes Tantor to live life to the fullest, and Tantor stops Terkina from living life a little too much. Sometimes Tantor’s advice can annoy Terk at the time, but she appreciates him at the end of the day.

Jane Porter (Acquaintance): Naturally Terk had no issue with grilling Jane all about herself the first time they ever met. She knows no boundaries. Additionally, of course sh wants to know everything about someone who’s spending time with her cousin of whom she’s quite protective of. Terk is still hesitant to complete give her the sign off, because she’s still somewhat of a stranger. But she seems decent so far so Terk’s willing to entertain the idea that she can stay in their lives a little longer. Pus, it’s kind of nice to have another girl around for once.

→ Possible Connections

Ronald Mallory (Colleague): Unfortunately Terk has to spend a lot of her time proving herself to her work colleagues. Most of the other personal trainers are male. When she first started, they laughed at her. Regardless of how much they try to put her off the job however, she’s stuck to her guns. She’s happy to prove them wrong every single day.

Shona Kennedy (Acquaintance): Understandably, not everyone wants to work with one of the male personal trainers. This is where Terkina gets quite happy about her job choice. She likes that women who want support from a fellow woman have someone to go to.
