El Capital (Das Kapital) es una obra de economía política crítica, publicada en tres volúmenes (1867, 1885, 1894). Es simultáneamente un tratado de economía, un análisis histórico del capitalismo y una crítica filosófica del sistema de producción moderno.

¿Qué tipo de libro es exactamente?

No es un manifiesto político (ese es el Manifiesto Comunista, mucho más corto). El Capital es un análisis denso y sistemático de cómo funciona el capitalismo desde adentro: cómo se produce la riqueza, cómo circula, y —según Marx— cómo genera desigualdad de forma estructural, no accidental.

¿Por qué podría interesarte?

Depende de quién seas, pero hay razones transversales:

Si te interesa la economía: Marx disecciona conceptos como valor, trabajo, capital, mercancía y plusvalía con un rigor que sigue siendo debatido hoy. Aunque no estés de acuerdo, es una lente analítica poderosa.

Si te interesa la historia: Contiene análisis históricos fascinantes sobre la industrialización, la acumulación primitiva de capital y las condiciones laborales del siglo XIX. Es historia viva.

Si te interesa la filosofía: Está profundamente influido por Hegel y tiene reflexiones sobre alienación, cosificación y la relación entre el ser humano y su trabajo que siguen siendo relevantes.

Si entiendes el mundo actual: Debates sobre desigualdad, automatización del trabajo, crisis financieras o el poder de las grandes corporaciones son imposibles de profundizar sin conocer a Marx, aunque sea para refutarlo.

Si te gusta la cultura: Es uno de los libros más influyentes de los últimos 200 años. Ha moldeado movimientos políticos, literatura, cine y pensamiento en todo el mundo.

Es una lectura difícil. Posiblemente el Volumen primero sea el más accesible; los otros dos los completó Engels tras la muerte de Marx. Si quieres empezar, muchos recomiendan leer primero los primeros capítulos sobre la mercancía y el valor, que son el núcleo conceptual de todo

Si los libros representan la historia del pensamiento, este proyecto quiere recordarnos que todas las ideas científicas nacen o se hacen en el encuentro con el mundo material, con objetos de nuestro mundo. Cada libro se presenta vinculado a un objeto, en la mayor parte de los casos de la colección del MUNCYT, que nos invita a pensar en clave de historia y a poner personalmente en marcha el proceso de intervención imprescindible para que, al menos mentalmente, se puedan generar conceptos a partir de la percepción de hechos.

Detrás de libros y objetos están seres humanos. Como no podía ser de otro modo, se presentan en primer plano los autores de los libros, expuestos al respeto que han merecido sus aportaciones a la cultura de la humanidad. Tras esas personas, vemos o adivinamos a sus maestros y sus circunstancias, su huella y también su tiempo. Con seguridad todos ellos buscaron la verdad, aunque la historia nos dirá que ninguno la tuvo; pero el conjunto es tranquilizador, porque como consecuencia de no poder satisfacerse con la posesión de la verdad, tras esa revisión continua, al final la ciencia -obra común- no se equivoca nunca.
