โmhm,โ lili only nods in reply, keeping it quiet that it was the first thing to pop up in the search engine after she had quickly googled what was a good gift to give oneโs neighbors ( and fellow group mates ) after ceremoniously becoming a new member โ oddly enough, not many results applied to her current situation so lili took the first thing that sounded as close to a sensical ( yet appropriate ) gift. ย it didnโt seem like it was a bad thing considering somin appeared to take it in stride ( or maybe she was being nice, lili wasnโt too sure yet ) --ย โisnโt that what a good neighbor does?โ
โiโm okay with it,โ lili couldnโt say if she liked it or hated it. fortunately for her, spice agreed with her stomach. unfortunately for her, her lips did tend to swell a bit when the spice teetered a closer to szechuan than anything else. โas long as itโs not buldak spicy, iโm decent. how's your spice preference?โ lili hadnโt even thought to check the spice level on the rice cakes, having assumed all rice cake vendors ranged between the same units on the scoville scale.
"i guess so," she says, and she remembers when all the crystallis girls had moved into their apartments and had spent a couple weeks just making the rounds and bringing gifts, so this isn't all that different from that, honestly. she thinks it's fun that lili had decided to do the same, and she feels herself warming up to her already. "it's also what friends do, so," somin grins after, pleased.
she nods, setting out the dishes she had grabbed so they were sitting across from each other, taking the bag of ddeokbokki from lili to open it and take out the package inside.
"it smells good," she says, nodding and taking off the lid, letting out a content sound as the scent hits her nostrils. "i have a decent spice tolerance, so i can eat ddeokbokki from any of the street vendors," she says, indicating for lili to sit. "do you want anything to drink? i have water, of course, some barley tea, banana milk ... coffee ..."
lili practically beams, feeling a sense of approval at sominโs words. sure, they were probably no where near as close as friends but coworkers who stayed friendly had always been liliโs goal. anything above that, lili assumed she was excelling โ and it was, technically, her first day. ( if she didnโt count the meeting when she had met everyone else and was told about her role and what not ) she thinks a gold star was surely in her future, her grandma be damned about doing too much.
โoh, iโm not sure if i can do just any vendor.โ lili had done that before and landed herself with a hurt tongue and an upset stomach. โbut hereโs hoping this vendor is just as good as those places.โ she smiles, finally sitting, fingers gently tapping at the edge of the table. โoh, some barley tea would be great, thanks.โ and if she was really dying, sheโll beg somin for some milk later. โi donโt want to tap out too soon.โ
is it pre-show jitters or is lili actually nervous for her first ever show as a newly-debuted idol? it doesnโt even feel real that this is happening. should she be happy or on the verge of tears? so many questions are on her mind, racing for the finish โ but what could be considered the finish line? isnโt this the beginning of it all?
she groans, this was not the time for an existential crisis, right before soundcheck. she tries to school her face out of her nauseous grimace, pressing full lips into a lopsided grin as the crew makes work on her mic pack; fingers fumbling with her in-ear as she notices @lgcyura emerge from the wings, giving the other an uneasy nod of acknowledgement as she, too, gets ready for soundcheck. โhave any words before i face the music?โ she laughs, trying to keep it light despite feeling like her heart was about to implode into the cavity of her ribs.
the tour was in full swing and sarang was enjoying every bit of it. sure, concerts left her tired, the traveling could be a bitch much but every moment on stage was worth it. the second best part was the shopping, no matter where they went sarang found a little trinkets she wanted to buy and the photos her scrape-booking were abundant. today it was all about kobe and she was paired with lili for the sight-seeing aspect of it. just as they stepped outside of the hotel and on to the streets, sarang pulled out and turned on the little camera they were given by staff.
she raised the camera, focusing it on lili. "today, we're going to explore kobe before we see you guys at the concert." she spoke, the camera drifted from lili to shots of the city. "do you have any places you want to visit first? i took the time check out some travel guides, so we have a few options." only if lili really had a hard time figuring out some places she wanted to visit. "we also have to check out the food, food is a must."
lili tries to remember all the travel guides that had been scattered in her room from this morning. a late riser, today, lili had only sparingly glanced at a few before she was dragged out of the comforts of an air-conditioned hotel room and into the exhausting japanese heat. if she had complained about koreaโs heat wave, it truly had not prepared her for japanโs humidity. โmm, nankinmachi? we could grab some lunch from the stalls?โ that is, if they didnโt collapse from a heat stroke on the way there.
โwait, letโsโโ lili pulls sarang into the first convenience store they come across; barely a few steps out of the hotel and lili was strongly rethinking her outfit choices. โletโs get some water from the conbi first! got to stay hydrated, right? donโt want to be too exhausted before the concert.โ her eyes peruse through the aisles until landing on the refrigerators at the end. โis this your first time in kobe?โ
"oh, the korean tradition for giving ddeok as a housewarming gift?" she asks, looking too amused about the fact that she's pretty sure it's supposed to be a completely different ddeok, but honestly? somin is not mad about receiving ddeokbokki instead of something sweet. she doesn't mind sweet things, but she also absolutely loves savoury things.
instead of saying anything, she pulls out the little table in her eating area and moves to close the door behind lili once the other girl is inside her apartment. "no, no, this is great actually," she says, clapping her hands together, feeling absolutely pleased with how her day was going.
"do you like spicy food?" she asks, bustling around to get little dishes to eat with and also two pairs of chopsticksโwhether lili liked it or not, they were eating this together now! "i won't say no to more food though," she adds, teasing.
ย it didnโt seem like it was a bad thing considering somin appeared to take it in stride ( or maybe she was being nice, lili wasnโt too sure yet ) --ย โisnโt that what a good neighbor does?โ

sarang nodded her head, turning her attention to the bag that lili had. "i've had those before but i don't eat them often." a snack she wouldn't seek out but if she came across them in isle, maybe she'd toss one or two bags into her cart. "mainly because i really like croissants, so when i eat it and it's not warm and buttery, i get a little deflated but they're not bad at all. i didn't have the bag today but the chocolate flavor isn't bad either." in fact, sarang was pretty sure that she liked that one more.
"ah, it's tough but not impossible. if i get super lucky, sometimes you can find them in itaewon. rare but it happens. my most common way is to use coupang and gmarket but it is costly...and worth it."
lili takes a small, cautious bite โ munching quietly akin to a judge on culinary wars. โmm, itโs a little too sweet for my liking,โ which was crazy because lili loved her sweets โ in moderation. โugh, how can you bring it up and not have gifted it, now you have to bring me some next time.โ a promise for a new day is always a good sign, and lili hopes sarang feels the same. itโs a manifesting thing, lili thinks, and lili loves a good manifestation โ itโs how she got herself here, after all.
lili can feel her jaw go slack, as if hearing some dark, deep secret. โnot impossible? you must teach me your ways, oh great one. iโve been here for years and i still have so much to learn.โ she jokes, but in all seriousness, it does feel that way sometimes, especially now. โah, money comes and goes but takis are forever.โ at least that was what health officials said in regards to the obscure digestion that occurs when one has too many takis.ย
"too sweet." sarang repeated, mentally taking note. something to scribble down later so she knew what not to buy for the other girl. a small smile formed on her face as she nodded her head, "sorry, i didn't think about it until now, i'll remember to keep an eye out and i'll save a bag just for you." and it wasn't an off-hand comment, it was a promise and sarang could already see that she'd be hunting down the chocolate flavor. it'd haunt her mind if she didn't.
"no problem, digging, thrifting and research are some my main skills." those skills helped her not only in school but in everyday life. "if you need to find something, i'm about 85% sure i'm your girl, it's a great pass time for me." her mind turning to the taki's, "the next time i order, i'll grab some for you as well, any other snacks you want but they're hard to get?"
lili waves a hand dismissively, โno apologies needed.โ the fact of the matter was that lili should have been satisfied with what was brought to her door in the first place! whatever happened to beggars canโt be choosers? โ not that lili could ever be compared to a beggar but you get the point. โi will hold you to a saved bag though,โ she, cheekily, adds despite her earlier words. it was chocolate, need she say more?
โdigging? like soilโ gardening or like digging as in instagram sleuthing?โ both were equally intriguing hobbies. โthrifting sounds fun! i havenโt been to many thrift stores but I remember some of the bag places in japan are to die for. are there places like that here?โ lili pauses, taking a moment to think, โoh! ketchup flavored lays? there was such a thing as that once upon a time ago.โ

yura smirks, seeing how lili reacts what she said. it was really quite entertaining and while yura wouldn't normally say things like this so readily, now that lili was a crystallis member, she did feel a sense of responsibility to give the new addition advice or tips if asked. that didn't mean she couldn't have a little fun with this though and purposely drew out her silence, deciding not to answer the new questions right away. instead, she took her time grabbing a water bottle and handed it over to the younger.
"it's up to the individual honestly," she finally answers, after setting her own drink down on the little table she had set up next to the couch she managed to fit into the main space of her unit. plopping herself onto one end of it, yura gestures for lili to sit down as well before she continues.
"if anyone ended up dating, they didn't have to tell us who exactly--or even that they were dating at all--but when you're together for most of the day, you begin to notice things about the others and you can't help but wonder or put the hints together. in the end, it's helpful having even just one person know so at least there's someone who could help you out if needed," she laughs then takes a sip of her drink. "especially when we all lived in the same dorm together and had a manager with us, or nearby and they would randomly check up on us, so it'd be easy to notice if someone was missing."
"as for now..." yura trails off for a moment, thinking about the current statuses of the remaining members then shrugs again. it should be fine to say this much since she wasn't really revealing anything potentially scandalous. "i don't think the others are seeing someone right now or at least, not that i know of or noticed."
of course, she didn't reveal her own situation yet but that was mostly because yura was very careful about her relationship (as was her boyfriend, and they both made equal concerted effort to keep it secret, only meeting when they both had free time and no schedules so she didn't really need to inform anyone about going out) and didn't feel it necessary to mention yet. "but you'd probably have to ask them to be sure since it's up to them to share what they want."
lili nods, slowly digesting the information being fed to her โ being in a group was different than existing as an individual. she wasnโt used to working in a group setting โ sure, evaluations may have been paired here and there but for as long as sheโs known, she had always been looking out for lili, now there were three other girls she had to be concerned for, too. not that she wanted all that on her shoulders but it was a start โ didnโt that go hand-in-hand with if one falls down, we all fall down with you? and lili was not ready to fall, not when she had just begun to rise. โhm, so itโs more girl-girl intuition, gotcha.โ and as a person who prided herself on her keen sense of observation, lili was all eyes on her co-workers, acquaintances, members? hm, she would need to work on how she was going to file them in her lifeโs mission.ย
โoh no, youโre so right โ iโll just go up to them and,โ she mimics a handshake and laughs, โlike yes, hi iโm lili โ new crystallis member and oh, are you dating someone?โ she jokes โ though, in another world, lili wasnโt opposed to being straight forward with such scenarios. she was on the opposite side of the fence where knowing too much was better than knowing too little and fucking up โ all because lili knew how to keep her lips sealed. โkidding! iโm sure itโll come in time, i donโt want to force the connection.โย it all takes time and lili was here for the long-haul.

"day two, got it." sarang nodded her head as her attention turned towards the snacks she brought. "honestly, i'm a better safe than sorry person. i wasn't sure what you'd like so i went for the most common and known brands." sarang normally wouldn't mind being adventurous on her own but that couldn't be said for everyone. on top of it, it'd be horrible if she brought a gift and lili didn't like any of it.
"that being said, i did bring some of my favorites, mostly japanese snacks." she opened that bag, "you probably know about pocky but these are some of my favorite flavors. i have some mochi here, assorted flavors and seaweed snacks and senbei....and taki's, if you want a chip in that's spicy. i first tried them when went to the states but they're harder to get here."
health conscious due to a almond mom grandma mentality, lili had never really partaken in snacks โ often a smoke as you go kind of person, but she wasnโt opposed to trying. what was the saying โ life was all about trying out new experiences? โhm,โ she hums, gathering her bearings as she runs a scattered gaze among the treats sarang has brought before pinking up a a light blue bag with aย croissant plastered across the plastic wrapping. โsalt bread snack?โ she tugs at the seams until it breaks, taking a small, curious sniff of the contents before picking one from the bottom of the bag.ย
โhave you tried these before?โ she asks whilst turning the bag over to sarang. lili nods, eyes suddenly lighting up as sarang brings up takis โ โwait, how did you get your hands on takis! itโs like a myth here, i can never find them at the western aisles.โ

when she gets a knock on her door in the middle of her gaming session, she doesn't realize it's her actual apartment door for a moment. she ignores it, but call it what you will, there's something telling her that she should check. tugging her headphones off of her head and letting them settle around her neckโhonestly it's a miracle that she had heard anything at all, and also that she's not playing an fps right nowโshe gets up and heads over to the door, peeking out the peephole and startling a little when she realizes it's the newest addition to crystallis.
she glances down to make sure she's decent, adjusting the hoodie she was wearing before she opens the door, a little surprised.
but she doesn't even manage to say anything before something warm is thrust into her face. something warm and spicy she amends, sniffing the air and trying to peek inside the bag.
"is this ddeokbokki?" somin asks, a bit incredulous and a bit confused, stepping back and indicating for lili to step inside her apartment. "waitโis this like, a neighbour thing?" she asks, amused as she sets it on the counter and starts rifling through her drawers for some plates and chopsticks.
โan act of goodwill,โ lili says rather than what it actually is โ a peace offering โ in the off chance that in the future ( or very, very near present ) that lili somehow steps on some toes. ( it wasnโt a matter of if but when, really ) โor at least thatโs what i googled last night when i was trying to come up with things to give everyone.โ
it was either this or alcohol but unlike those who cried that it was happy hour somewhere, lili liked to keep drinking alcoholic beverages to after the sun went down.
โis this okay? if not, i can totally come back tomorrow with something better.โ and possibly write a scathing review on that forum post she had clicked a few hours before for putting such a bad idea into liliโs head.
"no worries." sarang replied easily, while she was quit to unpack. sarang knew her efficiency was more of a strange quirk. "if you need help, just let me know." it was an honest offer and sarang didn't mind helping out, it would give them time to bond. lili was right, they did know each other but not well enough. it still wasn't a lie that she felt better having someone new in the group. it was grounding in a way. when lili returned with the drinks and ice, sarang was setting out the snacks she had grabbed.
"i'll help you however i can, with moving and the group." she wasn't sure if lili was seriously drowning in anything or the other girl was teasing. either way, she was serious in her address. "while i did move in quickly, i'm still getting a handle on the group myself but i'll do whatever i can to help you. and if i don't have the answer, i'll find someone who does!"
sheโd never been โthereโs no i in teamโ โ she, however, had always been the โbut there is an i in winโ sort of person. acclimating to a group setting was going to be an uphill battle, lili knows this, but seeing sarang breaching the gap helped in ways lili couldnโt put into words. being the new kid on the block was nothing new and usually lili acted pretty briskly because of it. this was neither the time nor place to reveal her bad temperament so she tries to keep that pristine smile in place, shrugging off her negative nancies that were plaguing her and tried to look on the brighter side of things.ย
โthank you,โ and she means it, the gratitude swarming her in a wave of relief suddenly at the prospect that she wasnโt alone in this new journey she had embarked on. โtruly a lifesaver, i have many questions but we can save that for day 2. first letโs settle, what snacks have you brought me? any favorites of yours youโd like to introduce me to?โ
in a way, yura finds it funny. she wasn't exactly excited to debut in a group at first but she quickly found herself getting used to being okay with that idea starting from lgc girls. by the time crystallis was announced, yura was surprised-but-not that she felt little resistance to debuting in a group then; she was just happy to debut in something permanent at all, not to mention something she could call her own.
thankfully, she ended up liking her would-be members too and at one point, she thought they were the strongest they could be - until they weren't anymore with member leaving after member, sometimes even in twos or threes at once. new members would get added but they'd eventually leave too, to the point that yura wondered if they were cursed. positions changed as well and eventually she ended up as leader - something she didn't think she'd experience after seemingly failing the leadership challenge in future dreams all those years ago.
now, here she is, facing their newest member and being asked something she couldn't have anticipated in this situation, causing her to blink dumbly for a moment before she finally processes what's been said. yura bursts into laughter at lili's words and the way she said them. "well, come in first so we're not having this conversation in the hall," she smiles, amused, and steps aside to let the other enter her unit.
"there's not really any tea as far as i know," she continues (although she does briefly pause, remembering some of the past... tension she's had with some members before, until she remembers they're not here anymore so there's no point bringing it up now). "but i guess i should mention that there's kind of always been a quiet agreement to cover for each other if we ever needed to slip out without the managers knowing, or if any of us had partners and something came up. we help each other out when needed, basically."
yura walks over to her fridge and opens it to see what she had inside in terms of drinks to offer her determined guest, only to find nothing but water. she really needed to do groceries or something. "do you want water? i can order delivery if you're craving anything too, since you came to visit me," she offers with a grin. "it might be easier if you ask me what you want to know instead, honestly. anything you're curious about is fine!"
by yuraโs first words, lili wonders if sheโs come to the right place, practically deflating on the spot. that was until yura continues and lili knows sheโs exactly where she needed to be. aside from sarang, lili had her two options: somin or yura โ both of whom had been with crystallis through thick and thin โ and crystallis has been through some nasty splits but despite them, somin and yura had remained a constant. since yura had opened her door first, lili was happy to pick her brains for some well-needed crystallis tea.
โoh,โ an eyebrow raises, almost scandalously. โand these โฆ so-called partners,โ she clears her throat, a finger tucking a stray hair behind an ear, โis that a โall members knowโ or is that a โunless you need to knowโ type thing? just so i know which toes i shouldnโt be stepping on.โ lili didnโt want to assume but she also was dying to know just who in the group was taken and was otherwise, free to mingle. lili had a lot of friends and she did not mind setting up those who wished to let their wings fly ~
โor is it too soon for me to ask โฆโ they hardly knew each other but alas, lili was a nosy little bitch. โwater is fine! and honestly, mumโs the word โ scoutโs honor and all that, alibis are practically my middle name.โ not that lili breathed white lies but they were a bit of a speciality of hers.
sarang had been around for a while but it felt nice to have new member. everyone experienced it once but it felt good to experience it in real time with someone so, sarang found herself heading over to lili's unit with a few snacks and drinks in hand. one, it was good to push herself, bonding wouldn't help if she only interacted with her member when it came to work. two, things were made bit easier because of the fact that they trained together. sarang wouldn't call them close but they weren't strangers either. she could even member lili witnessing her bathroom break down, something she pointedly tried to forget.
the door opened after a few knocks and sarang entered with a bow. it didn't seem like seungah was around but she had brought enough. the door closed behind her and sarang turned to face the other girls, holding up her offering. "this is my official welcome to the group. i'm pretty new myself but i'll try and help anyway, i can." she was honest, sarang wasn't really sure how she could be of help but she would try her best.
"i can also admit, it feels good to have someone new."

lili was in the middle of a decorating crisis when a knock interrupts her thoughts. โoh thank god,โ a welcome disruption as she removes her palm from her forehead and turns away from the wall in her room that lay two identical shades of burgundy of which she wanted her room painted โ they were different hues, of which she was absolutely, positively sure of โ but staring at them for the last half hour was beginning to make her head ache and the fumes from the drying paint did not make it any better. with a sigh, she departs for the front door, swinging it open without even glancing at the lcd screen beside it to see who had come.
โah, we love a welcome!โ a smile instantly adorns her face, rushing to welcome the girl inside; anything to keep her from staring at her unpainted walls and the litter of boxes she had yet to unpack. โas you can see, we have yet to move in โ but please, make yourself at home!โ
โthanks,โ lili bumps her shoulder affectionately against the otherโs before closing the front door and helping with the drinks that other had carried over. โiโm honestly relieved that i know at least someone in the group. you can save me this time โ i'm drowning.โ an exaggeration but it sure felt like it from the amount of boxes the movers had shoved into this place. she jokes as she sets the drinks down and goes to retrieve some glasses and ice. โiโm still in the water, maybe you can shove a life vest my way or something.โ
โย ย ย ย RICE TO THE ๋ก
lili didnโt always do this. if anything, she was hardly the ideal neighbor but hey, new year, new her, right?ย
( it did not matter that it was nearly may and the year was rolling on past her heels but whatever, the case there is โ the new year was still upon her and she was making a change for the better! god, this optimism was going to be the death of her, wasnโt it )ย
anyways, lili didnโt always do this โ so, because she didnโt, she didnโt know that buying rice cakes for your neighbor to foster harmony and neighborly bonding did not mean the rice cakes you got at the corner stall that was immensely packed with a spicy, sweet and savory sauce of korean chili paste and flakes. but this is what she came to deliver @lgcsomin when she came strolling past one day, the heat filtering from the plastic bag onto liliโs fingertips were making her skin sweat โ ugh. switching the bag to the other hand, she wipes her palm against the back of her jeans before knocking, humming to herself as waits to make herself known.
and once the door opens, sheโs practically shoving the heated plastic into the other girlโs face in welcome, โhello neighbor!โ

โย ย ย ย THE ART OF ICE BREAKING
lili hated being the new girl โ anywhere โ sheโs done it countless times in the past: new schools, new friends, new places. new, new, new. and it was all the same thing: an initial awkward, the breaking of the ice, and suddenly everything was like nothing was new at all.
however, lili was also impatience and she didnโt want to go through the whole breaking the ice bit and wait for the greener grass on the other side, she wanted the nothing was new at all part right now! and what better way to get to that and more than to go straight to crystallisโ leader โ newly inducted, @lgcyura. fingers gingerly folded almost pleadingly, lashes batting in that way, eyes practically begging for a favor, โokay,โ she drawls on slowly, almost obviously, exaggeratingly so. โiโm gonna need you to give it to me straight.โ
โwhatโs the 411, the tea, the doโs and the do nots of crystallis. what toes should not be stepped on and what fancies can be tickled, i wonโt pressure you but i will not be leaving your unit until i get at least a few doโs and do notโs.โย jeez, lili, take a breath! a thought that comes all too soon after her long winding spiel, wide smile and all.
she would say she didn't believe in the whole manifestation thing-- for a lot of her life, she had tried to manifest money in her mother's bank account so they didn't have to struggle, only for the cycle to repeat itself. that her sister wouldn't feel so bad about all her achievements to no avail. but... it a way it was true-- they had been talking about this, truly, not too long ago. a constant of wonder of when, and even if-- and then, now-- they were there. she can feel her body buzzing practically, and she hums, biting her bottom lip hard to prevent the squeal that wants to escape.
plus, she wasn't alone. she had seen so many trainees come and go, but this time, lili was going to be right by her side. there was a part of her that hoped they'd be staying together. but... one step at a time.
she laughs a bit, nodding in agreement. "i know, i know but we don't have long to go before the concert anyway. you know they're watching us even more now."
lili was relieved to have someone to share this with โ beyond that, she was happy that someone was practically on the cusp of the same journey. just a step or two more and theyโd be right there! she could practically taste it! years before, lili would have felt threatened but now, all she felt was a sense of relief that she wasnโt as alone as she had always felt before. โiโm glad youโre here with me.โ she hadnโt known emi long but in the short time that she did, growing close to the other had brought a comfort she knew was irreplaceable.ย
โugh, youโre right.โ she groans, almost exasperatedly โ exaggeratedly โ not at all meaning this sense of exasperation. because in the end, lili was more than happy to have something to do to offset the elation and nerves that trembled at her fingertips. โlet me just bask in this joy for another minute or two. maybe pinch me too for good measure because a part of me still canโt believe it.โ despite knowing they both deserved this to bits, that self-sabotaging mongrel from within still sought out doubt. deep down, it was there but deeper still, she knew this chance of a lifetime had finally come their way.ย
