before haeun can finish, the instructor begins to introduce themselves and something about… a makeup workshop?! danny’s eyes widen, mouth gaped open in confusion. wait! “uh… gotta go!” he reaches for his backpack again and begins to rise from his chair, hoping he could sneak out before it was too late -

you there. didn’t you hear me? we’re starting now. danny turns and bows his head apologetically, an awkward grin tugging at the corners of his lips. “i’m sorry, i’m not supposed -” are you trying to hold up the entire workshop, choi hyunseung?

his shoulders tense as he’s addressed by his full name. he knew the instructor looked familiar. he flashbacks to his first year of camera tests… so much eyeliner. his eyes begin to water at the thought. perhaps it wasn’t the best idea to complain loudly about how much he absolutely hated how he looked that day… in front of the senior makeup artist. “i really have to -”

sit down. 

the instructor’s tone has him plopping back into his seat without much protest. he glances over at haeun with a frown, whispering. “hobbit, you’ll be my partner right?! i don’t want to be left alone having to work with… the instructor. i’m really good at coloring in the lines, so… i should be pretty good at this, right?”

     she winces as she watches danny get absolutely chewed out by the instructor though she doesn’t say anything, feeling a bit bad for her friend and she makes a mental note to buy him a strawberry milkis in apology ... even though she hasn’t done anything wrong. being witness to this was bad enough, she thinks, and she lets herself zone out a bit as she thinks of how to meet up with him again in order to give him said milkis.

     either way, she feels a bit bad for him. she doesn’t say anything as she comes back to the present and starts paying attention again, making sure not to step out of line considering she doesn’t want to get yelled at too.

VLIVE Q&A — ( QUESTION ONE. )

     when the vlive starts, haeun will admit she’s a bit nervous as she always is when she’s in front of any camera. she’s getting better, after having guested on several vlive shows now but it’s really different when she’s by herself. the cooking one was easy because that was all set up already for her and she just needed to tell the audience how to make a recipe she had made hundreds of times already.

     this time? she has to answer things on the spot, and hell, everyone knows she has no brain to mouth filter. hopefully she doesn’t say anything bad ...

     the first question that she’s given surprises her because it’s not one that she’s expecting. she had mentioned before that she had been born in the states, along with her brother, but she hadn’t thought it was something noteworthy that fans would bring up and ask. but it’s an easy first question and she purses her lips as she thinks. 

     “well, there’s a lot of things but the biggest thing i think is that i miss speaking english?” she sounds a bit unsure here, but only because she’s not sure if that really counts. “i grew up speaking korean, but only at home with my parents and even then i would usually speak in half korean half english. the only time i really had to speak full korean would be when i was talking to my grandparents! and even then, they knew a bit.” 

     she pauses again, before she shrugs. “i think my biggest culture shock was that there’s like, no garbage cans on the streets here? that’s off topic wait—” she glances at the staff behind the camera before switching her train of thoughts back to the correct rail. “i have to say i miss the snacks! everything in korea is a bit on the sweeter side, which is hard to get used to since i grew up with only salty snacks. so yeah, that’s what i miss the most i think. though, if i kept going, i could probably go on for a while.”

Ichika nods when Haeun speaks her approval, still taking a moment to roll the bead between her fingers before she sets it down on the table. Using her nails, she gently pushes aside some of the beads before she finds what she assumes is an “I” amongst the letters and gently pulls towards her to join the small collection of cute pastel beads she’s selected. She’s never made anything of the sort before but it doesn’t seem hard, and this was the point right— something fans could treasure? 

It’s the younger’s comment about not having many fans that draws her attention back, and she looks at the other with a confused bat of her eyelashes. She may not know Haeun too well, but there’s something about the younger trainees that has come to weasel their way under the cool exterior of her heart, and she lets out a small sigh. “You may not have many fans yet,” she begins coolly, evenly, “but you will one day and the effort you put in now will be treasured.” It’s a weird thing to say, even to Ichika’s ears the phrase doesn’t seem to completely convey what she really means, so she tries again. “I think what fans you do have will treasure these for a long time.” 

While her words are meant for Haeun, part of Ichika knows this applies to her as well. She knows her own popularity in Korea is ever growing, something she’s done her best to cultivate after the fall out of her graduation. She’s not foolish to believe she’ll be as popular as she had once been when she returns to Japan with LGC Girls, but as she picks up a frustrated pink butterfly and holds it up to the light to examine it better, Ichika hopes the move is a good sign. “I think that’s a good idea,” she replies, glancing back at the younger with a small smile. “It’ll make them more special, won’t it?” 

Reaching over Ichika places the bead closer to Haeun before she selects another, a flower for herself. “I think that one suit you more.”

     she sees ichika take and ‘i’ and immediately starts looking for a ‘y’ as well, quietly sliding that towards the older girl. even if she doesn’t end up using it, haeun is sure that it would be nice to have just in case? she’s not too sure though, but she thinks that her fluency in english should help for something right? 

     other than the obvious translating thing.

     the words that come from the older girl surprise her slightly, and she glances up at the other trainee, nodding slowly. ichika’s words are true, and haeun knows that she should believe that too. and she does. she was more stating a fact that being self-deprecating or anything, but it’s still nice to hear, she won’t deny that. “i hope that some of my fans really will come,” she comments quietly, shrugging. “i know a lot of them know me through my brother, but i hope some of them become my fans too. even if it’s just from association,” she says, grinning after. “i’m going to steal his fans!”

     haru maintains his skeptical stance because he knows haeun shouldn’t be taken lightly. past experience has taught him that the younger shouldn’t be completely trusted - as in, believing her words are true when she says things like she ‘promises’ whatever present she has for him isn’t weird. she did get him a really nice birthday present this year though so maybe she could be trusted… this time.

     the suspense kills him though, even if it’s only a few seconds; it feels like forever and he wonders if he should use this time to run away but the part of him that’s curious makes him stay. (and truthfully… he just wanted to spend more time with haeun. he had taken advantage of the thought that she would always be there and being apart from her made him more lonelier than he had anticipated, despite being surrounded by so many people for project origin.)

     what he doesn’t expect is to see a slogan pulled out from behind her back and the sudden cheering as she imitates a fan that makes him burst into laughter, both out of surprise and amusement. “what–” he manages to gasp out before laughing more. “my biggest fan? really, jeon haeun?” he’s grinning teasingly as he walks closer to her again now that he knows the present isn’t suspicious after all, and reaches out for the slogan to inspect it. “is this really me?” he asks in wonder, marveling over the photo of him on one side and his name in text on the other. he’d seen a few of them before but never up close like this and it was fascinating, even more so that someone would make one of him. his smile grows wider soon after though and he looks back at his sister with excited eyes. “where’d you get it?”

     “i’ll be honest and tell you i found it thrown on stage from over there,” she points in the general direction that she had come from before sneaking up on him, grinning happily. she’s both happy for his reaction and the fact that she had just happened upon the slogan. it wasn’t like she had been keeping an eye out or anything, but she had seen the ‘ha’ character and had been curious, though she was pretty pleased that it had ended up being one of her brother’s.

     (there’s a small part of her that’s disappointed that it wasn’t her name, but at the same time she knows that he’s much more well-known than she is. and strengthens her resolve that she needs to debut as soon as possible.)

a trainee mission performance solo

     the months of practicing tumbling for this performance has her feeling pretty hyped actually.

“the only crit i give is con! thank you very much!” he fires back playfully, lacing up his sneakers before popping back up to his feet. “alright, if you insist! but stretches first. and i mean every limb! i will not be held liable for any preventable injuries!” he says sternly, wagging his fingers before giving his own shoulders a roll. of course, he’d be one to talk. he was the master of throwing himself into practice cold. but at least there wouldn’t be any windmill fiascos today if he could help it!  “you’re in the 10 out of 10 group, right? lucky for you, i had to perform that song for an eval my first year and still remember most of it too! i can definitely give you some tips that’ll guarantee you look crisp. and i mean crisper than burnt pizza crust!”

“and you know, i wouldn’t normally be doing this. my private dance lessons are usually quite expensive… buuuuut -” he drags out in a sing-song voice, rolling his neck dramatically. “i’ll give you the little-sister-discount! one free dance lesson for say… two free strawberry milkis at lunch tomorrow? deal?” he tugs one arm over his chest - partly to stretch, partly to shoot a single finger gun in her direction.

     she rolls her eyes, unable to hide her exasperation at his words. despite really looking up to him as a dancer and also just as a person, haeun also has her moments where she’s tired of him. and those moments happen pretty regularly. but that’s probably why she sees danny as a pseudo-older brother figure too ... despite having an actual older brother. 

     which, is fine. she can have two brothers.

     the deal is a decent one though—even if haeun isn’t too sure about how much he says his dance lessons are. it’s a fair deal because she’s watched hundreds of different fancams and dance covers of 10 out of 10 and she still isn’t fully confident in her re-interpretation of it.
