Half-baked thought: the goo room scene was a pretty clear parallel to Jack and Rose from Titanic, specifically Jack’s *spoiler* death. In season one they also paralleled Jancy to Jack and Rose via the synchronized “shut up” line
What did they, the duffers or writers, think they were saying through that parallel? What was their point?
Does anyone else understand my thoughts here? I am not articulating it well at all. Please help.
yes i wondered this too 🚢
they have used jancy to recreate things before, like the temple of doom kiss. i dont know that that particular parallel was comparing them to indy and willie, it was mainly a way to pay homage.
so i think they just like to recreate iconic movie scenes.
but at least they give jancy things sometimes ❤️ i mean they cared about them enough in s5 to emphasize that they never stopped loving each other!
Good point but I guess what were they trying to convey with the parallel?
Temple of doom kiss is a notable buildup and back and forth leading to an iconic kiss and thus serves as an homage and inspiration for jancys first kiss. Therefore the purpose of the homage was to draw inspiration for a passionate kiss and I think that’s done well.
That makes sense to me.
On the flip side, the Jack death scene in Titanic is an iconic tragic loss/sacrifice due to extraneous situations outside of their relationship —> Jancy facing death and deciding they need space to grow.
It’s like they want to parallel Jancy’s letting go of each other to rose letting Jack go when he dies in the shipwreck…. And I just can’t help being like “you know she wouldn’t have let go if they had both survived, right?”
And I guess that’s why the homage doesn’t hit for me.
i know what you mean! unfortunately we might be giving them too much credit trying to make sense of it…ending the show with el’s probable suicide is enough for me to say i dont understand the story they were trying to tell at all in s5.
Absolutely! It’s like trying to make sense of an accidental paint splatter. There’s a highly likely chance that the homage stemmed from “Titanic is cool” and nothing more.
some questions may never be answered, for instance why was the breakup so romantic and why was she kinda straddling his thigh here
like he says, “i dont know!”
