welcome to my feminism blog! before accusing me of being a terf, here are my actual beliefs:
-the patriarchy is based on sex and therefore sex-based oppression is in fact a real thing (i.e. you cannot identify out of being oppressed for being female)
-HOWEVER, gender was constructed around sex and therefore people who are perceived to be a certain sex will be affected by many of the forces oppressing the sex they are assumed to have been assigned at birth (cis people are going to treat us how they see us)
-sex is a NEUTRAL trait, being female is not inherently tied to womanhood nor is being male inherently tied to manhood
-gender-based oppression absolutely is a real thing but the existence of gender-based oppression does not erase or invalidate the existence of sex-based oppression (a trans woman is oppressed by the cisheteropatriarchy for being a woman, a trans man for being female, and cis women are hit with either/both depending on the situation)
-pretending that our identities override the reality of patriarchy is unproductive and actually serves to re-affirm the superiority of cisgender people over trans people (by insisting that gender precedes sex i.e. our identities determine our sex, we are in turn insisting that we are, in a roundabout way, cisgender. in other words, thereās nothing wrong with being trans and we should not have to act like our lived sexed experiences didnāt happen or donāt matter in order to be seen as āvalidā)
-gender is a social construct that was originally created to subjugate female and intersex people, but the origin of the system of gender doesnāt mean we have to abandon it entirely or that trans people shouldnāt be allowed to transition. on the contrary, i think more people should use HRT and surgery to make themselves feel more comfortable in their bodies and i think that most people would probably have a gender expression outside of the binary of āmanā and āwomanā if it were more socially acceptable to do so
-ātrans men are men!! trans women are women!!ā is great for getting cis people to understand why we need HRT, but itās an oversimplification of the trans experience and should not be used as the foundation of intra-community discourse. we are not the same as cis men and cis women, and that is literally fine
iāll probably add to this in time but those are the basics. feel free to RESPECTFULLY respond in my ask box and iāll answer in good faith
